We got our hands on the all-new EGO CS2000 20-inch Farm & Ranch Chainsaw, sent to us from the brand. #sponsored The brushless motor and 56-volt battery delivers a ripping chain speed of 82 feet per second (25 m/s). The Full Chisel 3/8" pitch .050" gauge 69-link chain makes quick work of the fresh-cut Florida oak tree. With just one 6Ah 56V EGO battery, we were able to get more than 39 cuts in the 12" diameter trunk. #review #chainsaw #tools

I was called something very insulting by the clerk at my local Ace Hardware store for wanting to purchase an electric chainsaw instead of another unreliable gas saw. I own a few rental homes, so I actually do a full month or two of fire clearing and wood cutting each year. I’ll save my big Stihl for big, downed trees, and will get a 16” Ego for limbing and brushing. Based on your review, with two batteries, I can do as much cutting as I want on any one day.

Never wanted a cordless chainsaw. But my Rancher 450 is still in the shop after two weeks, found this video and decided to go ahead and try it because I'm tired of the 450 breaking down for some stupid reason. I can always take the Ego back if I don't like it. I'm sold. The main thing for me is, the chain is so freaking easy to change or put back on. The keeper nuts are a fantastic idea. Had to order more nuts for my 450 because I'd lose them if they vibrated off while working, so I to order a bunch. The adjustement screw is set in one place, not in the cover. I bent the 450 adjustment screw after hitting a tough spot, had to order the whole cover. Can't replace that screw, it's in the cover. You cut a 12 inch tree. I swear the trees I'm cutting up are almost twice that big and the Ego cuts through them like butter. IN ECO MODE. Mine came with the 7.5 amp battery. I have three other Ego products so those batteries work also. Although you can only run in Eco mode with those 5 amp batteries. If I had to list any drawbacks it would be the weight. That sucker is heavier than any gas chainsaw I've used. But I don't care. I bought it 4 days ago and can't be happier with it. I've used it more in those 4 days than I've used my 450 in the last 6 months. The stupid things like a bent screw, lost nuts that shouldn't vibrate off, adjusting the carb, trying to see where the chain goes under that clutch. I have to order stuff or get someone to adjust the carb, or hold one end of the chain while I look for the sprockets under the clutch. Or like now. It's in the shop for two weeks and counting. This takes time away from what I have to be doing. Not with the Ego. I don't have these problems. If it breaks, it's going to be because I did something seriously wrong. Not just bump some knot hole or something easy. Gas chainsaws are so touchy, I don't have time for that. Only (really small) drawbacks are the weight and the price for another battery.

I find that EGOs cut the fastest when the motor is singing at full speed. I don't push hard at at all. I just swap chains all day long and sharpen them later. Chain sharpness is the number one factor in an electric chainsaw keeping up Touching a running chain in the dirt for one second will cut it's performance in half. If you aren't pushing out linguini noodles or big chips, it's time to either sharpen the chain or swap a new one like I do.

nice review, my brother in law British Columbia owns the EGO 16 inch chainsaw, I own a number of pieces of EGO products and i talked him into buying it, He has a gas powered Stihl 20 inch saw, we cut down 3 trees on his property each being about 50' tall, roughly 14" across, used the Ego to remove all the branches and did almost 2 trees with one 7.5 amp/hr battery, just taking my time and not forcing it, i also had a new chain so i have to admit it did make a big difference, these were softwood trees, 2 cedar and one spruce tree, he and my sister have firewood for a few years, none of it went to waste, EGO builds very high quality products, I have had the 21" lawnmower for 7 years coming this May and no issues, just regular maintenance, cleaning the underside of the deck and sharpen the blade thats it, BTW a sharp blade allows you together much cleaner and neat cuts, my neighbour says you got a sharp blade, yeppers 👍

Thank you for your solid words and presentation of this saw. I have the EGO "18 saw. I've noticed a difference in it's blade just as you have mentioned. It's not as aggressive as the "20 blade you demonstrated here. However, it gets the job done very well. These saws are nice and boring, IN A GOOD WAY. I like it when I can go through these cutting jobs without the drama of spending money and time maintaining a gas saw (my misspent youth). I'll take "boring" everyday of the week.

I just bought this yesterday and gave it a hot supper today, clearing a ton of property for a relative. I'm in love with the thing, for the stuff I was cutting I couldn't get it to stall out at all. It's pretty heavy, but the performance is more than I'd ever be able to utilize. So much nicer of an experience than gas saws I've had in the past, at least for the application I need one for. I am biased though, as I've loved every ego product I've bought, as they've all been very thoughtfully engineered with a lot of nice small touches that make life better. I just wish their batteries were more affordable, because that's the sour point.

I agree on the price of the battery. For just $100 more, you can get another 20" with the 7.5 amp battery (which mine came with) new. Do you have the Ego trimmer with the motorized string winder? Man, I love that thing. I'm like you. I have the blower, hedge trimmer and trimmer and I love them. If you use one of those batteries on your chainsaw, you can only operate in Eco Mode. But I don't care. That 7.5 is plenty of juice for me.

I find the 10amp hour batteries from my riding mower which are not recommended (weight?) but usable to be the best. They seem to last about forever unless you are cutting stuff bigger than the saw and I've found anything lower than the 6AH which a 5AH came with my trimmer to sometimes overheat and turn red. Maybe the 7.5 is the sweet spot for weight and power I'd guess. You will have to call ego to register the bare tool. Their website doesn't have it listed which was a PITA but the customer service rep was good.

My battery died after a year after purchasing. Replacement died after 2 and now they are saying tough luck that it's outside warranty. My string timmer went down and it took 3 months to fix. It seems customer service has gotten pretty bad over the last 8 years I have used their stuff.

Three things I thought were missing from your review; Number 1 is; you never said to make sure you have the tip of the bar pressed up while tightening. Number 2 is; what ARE the three speeds. And lastly; what is the minimum amp hour battery rating to be able to reach full speed. OTHERWISE; I DID enjoy this video, and have watched it at least a half dozen times.
@minkymott
@minkymott 7 күн бұрын
The three spees are Eco, Medium and High. I think the 6 amp battery is low as you can go. Anything lower you can only use Eco mode. Mine came with the 7.5 amp, and when they first came out they had the 6 amp. So I'm thinking anything lower only gets you the lowest speed. But hey, I'm cutting trees bigger than the one in this video in Eco mode.

I did a little quick math, assuming the 6x6's used were the common 5.5x5.5 inch size, ego claims to have cut a little over 4,000 square inches of wood, in your test assuming perfect 12 inch wide logs you cut about 4,400 square inches of wood. Close enough to somewhat validate egos testing for me.

Not a chance
@adamjames1375
@adamjames1375 3 ай бұрын
@@jordanmercredi3740 Yeah there's definitely a chance. Electric motors have an insane amount of torque & speed. Tesla's 2021 model S Plaid have 1,050lbs. Of torque and do 0-60 in 1.98 seconds. They have more torque than diesel 3500's and will smoke V12 Lamborghinis off the line. ... You can make a ton of valid arguments why gas might be the better choice, but in terms of power, it's absolutely able for an electric saw to absolutely destroy a two smoker. Ego's earlier models can absolutely hang with 30-40v saws and just from watching this video, I'd argue this saw can hang in the farm/ranch 50/60cc class. Again, there's separate arguments for why gas may be better for some people in some applications. But the technology is absolutely available for electric to annihilate gas in power.
@BenDiscoe
@BenDiscoe 3 ай бұрын
It's equivalent to a 55-60cc gas saw, as he says in the video. There's nothing magical or unique about a gas engine or an electric motor, power is power. Sure, electric has more torque, but as for how well it cuts wood, you can now buy electric saws that are on par with any gas saw up to around 65cc.

Don't listen to the people who disagree. I have a Husgrvana 450 Rancher and my EGO 20" cuts really big trees in Eco mode like it was a 4 inch branch. It compares to a 55cc, and the Husgrvana is 50cc. Definately more power, and faster too.

Just bought one after having my husky stolen 455 model . I was hesitate but have owned the push or self propelled mower over 7 years. Battery is 1/2 of what it was . But over all still does what I need . Also have the blower . Back to the saw I love it . Cuts as fast as gas . But what makes it great is gas when cutting fallen trees or big limbs . For safety as a older 65 man and always did it but you cut and move limbs to prevent trip hazards . The huskey always started easily 1 or 2 pulls but 0 is better and because it's 0 I find it mentally easier to set it down and move paths . Of course the lack of noise is a bonus . So far I feel the difficult decision I made was for me the better choice . The saw surprised me with length of run time. But knowing I can grab the mower battery to use while recharging did play role in pulling the trigger. However honestly the new battery out last me for now but it's hot

If you live in the pacific north west and live by magnum stihls, yeah it's probably not a good choice for you. @@skyhop Absolutely. This is a farm & ranch 50/60cc alternative that has as many upsides as downsides. I think for a large percentage of users looking for a Farm Boss type of saw this has some awesome advantages. The battery tool advancements have been rapidly increasing over the last decade & when you see certain perspectives that they're toys or only very light duty, it's usually from an antiquated myopic viewpoint. Same guys that think Toyota Tacomas are Jap crap that suck because they can't tow Excavators.

I bought a Husgrvana 450 last year to take care of the small things I have on the farm. We had a huge storm here two months ago. I used it on the really big trees that fell over into my yard after this storm. After always fighting with it because of some stupid issue, bent adjustment screw, nuts vibrating off and losing them, chain has to be adjusted every ten minutes, and now it's been in the shop for over two weeks because of flimsy endgineering, I bought this saw and I've been able to use it more in 4 days than I have my gas chainsaw in the last six months. And these trees are almost twice as big as what's in this video. No lost nuts, no adjustment screw to bend because it's not in the chainsaw cover, so far I'm adjusting the tension every hour or so, and the two times I've had to put the chain back on only took me minutes to do. My gas chainsaw's clutch gets in the way of seeing the sprocket to put the chain on. And I swore I'd never buy a cordless chainsaw. WHen I get my gas chainsaw out of the shop, I'm going to stick to the small stuff with it.
