Beach fishing for cod. It's that time of year again!!! Some people wait for this all year especially down here on the South Coast. I like to keep my setup and baits nice and simple. There wasn't really enough sea on to make it proper cod conditions and I think it showed. We had some fish and will be back for more in the coming weeks. Tight lines!!!

Hi John! Your videos are just wonderful, and as an avid fisherman my whole life it's just great to see another true fisherman at work - or is it play?? I found your channel in a suggested video about coastal foraging and enjoyed seeing your lovely wife and son with you. I have done this many times here in Florida, gathering shrimp, clams, and coastal species of fish. Seafood is always the best when you catch it and cook it yourself, right? Also, much respect for how you treat what you don't use. Keep up the good work and come to visit Florida if you can, super-good fishing here!

Thanks to my mother, "smoked codfish" is one of my favorite dishes. When I was stationed in East Anglia, one of my favorite dishes was fried fish and chips, old style, in a newspaper cone, smothered in mayonnaise, vinegar and salt. They were very liberal, with a whole kilo of cod per cone.

"Deer Meat For Dinner" channel thriving on it's hunting, fishing and alligator catching base, with cooking being more than half of the video fare. Hi that catch would have been very good from my patch. Codling are rare, of any size, and most of my catch seems to be whiting and flatties with a sprinkling of doggies! Even other beach venues are not producing much on the south coast at the moment! A very enjoyable video thank you. Bill

As always mate, a most enjoyable night out fishing. My anecdote for today is aptly towards fishing for cod in the northeast. have found that, when opening up a cod after dispatch, that most of the time they are found to have eaten hard shell crabs. The first time I had seen this, it was hard to believe because most anglers believed soft shelled crab was the best bait, however, my own experience is that because cod are bottom feeders, they would naturally come across hard shell crabs amongst the rocks they were feeding from and would not turn up their noses at a tasty morsel, therefore I used to use these too in my baits. I wonder how many cod have been lost to the ones feeding at that time on a particular bait. Maybe a tad like freshwater fish which are particular about what they eat too? Nevertheless, a lovely nights fishing with great company ;). Have a great day John. Ty
@TheFishLocker
@TheFishLocker 4 жыл бұрын
Nomad - I have noticed the same thing but don’t think it is so much that they prefer hard shelled crabs. It is simply that there are more of them around at any one time than peelers. And that peelers are an easier bait to work with. Easier to bind to a hook and let the juices out easier. 😉🎣🦀
@nomad7412

Have to agree with that John. We might be the same in that we have preferences for what we eat but when survival kicks in, anything goes. Great logic mate ty. and have a great day :) @@TheFishLocker

Nice video John, try a stitch unpicker to get rid of the bait elastic you can buy them off eBay for pennies. I think I fished that beach when I was down in August, few steps to climb and then a steep uphill walk to the car park if I am right.You locals are probably used to it but it was a bit of a shock to me with all the gear I drag down to the beach.

@@TheFishLocker, yeah we know, one shot seven nights once a year. Camp owners (new), that are just getting an understanding of our last 25yrs, the young ones on beach asking in horror what we are doing with dogfish, strange religion people attracted too our fire and rods. Phew, tough anough on the water, let alone a relaxing nite surfcasting. LOL.

Yey the cod vid!! Was looking forward to this one mate.. know wasn't quite what was wanted but happy days thats fishing etc!.. good watch as always again man. I went for a walk on a beach in Wales recently and there were hundreds of dog fish dead all along the beach in areas where people had obviously set up to fish..can only think people had been not returning them back to cut the numbers down is all i can think... doggies always been the blank saver for me and everyone i presume! Didn't quite know what to make of it but seemed like an irrational response from humans in short...bad form if that was the case do you see this anywhere else?
@TheFishLocker
@TheFishLocker 4 жыл бұрын
- Sadly that is very likely to be the cause. Most anglers do see Dogfish as a nuisance and a very small number do take it upon themselves to kill all they catch. I personally do not agree with it but theres not much you can do. Some people have different views and morals.
