I will have to watch more of your videos. I just did a search on "installing a shore power plug in cargo trailer" and yours was on top but I have not seen your channel doing other searches on Cargo Trailers. Mine plug did not come with a pigtail so I don't need to do any splicing. Nice that you get to work indoors.

Good job. The cardboard inverter is missing cooling vent slots. 🤣🤣 I normally I install these types of things on the passenger side so rain, snow & road debris do not get at it from oncoming traffic. Plus it can safely be acessed if on the side of the road and I will not be hit by passing vehicle. I install the plug so the cap closes in the down position or facing back so the wind or a tree branch,.. cannot open it when the trailer is moving forward.

You could’ve just tested continuity on the plug and wire. You didn’t need an extension cord plugged in.

Those plastic/nylon Chinese butt connectors are junk! Grote makes some awesome connectors with heat shrink! Thanks for the info!

I plan to live on the road with my 6x12 cargo trailer and while just starting to research how to install electrical, I'm wondering....Why is it that some people use 15amp shore power plugs and others' use 30amp for their cargo trailer conversions? I'm leaning more towards a 30 amp since most RV parks use them. Why did you get a 15amp? I realize we can get adapters but I don't know if it's better to go from 15 to 30 or visa versa? Any input is much appreciated.

It all depends on your loads you plan on having! I won't be running much so I won't ever need more than 15amps.

"Ever?" Wouldn't u rather just have the 30amp just in case? Better to have more than not enough right? I'm trying to make a decision and probably overthinking it. Thx

@@artest7 that is something you have to come to terms with. I won't ever be running AC or any other demanding appliances. If you are unsure I would suggest just putting in 30amp so you have more than you need worst case scenario :)

@@JoelTremblayCA BTW @ 7:30min of ur video u said you were going to hook up the shore power wires (3) to an inverter? Is that corrrect because I thought you hook up your 12Volt battery to the inverter in order to get 110-120V. Did u mean u were going to hook up the shore power wires(3) to a CONverter? Thx

@@artest7 this is a inverter and converter (combo) so essentially you have to do both! On the device there is a 12V DC input (from the battery), a 120V AC output (power the plugs in the trailer) and then 120V AC input (shore power, for the converter part to charge the battery)

Ha good question! I actually had to pry the piece of wood in place with a long 2x4 across the inside of the trailer while I put in the screws from the outside! Thanks for watching!

The black wire should always be hot, white is neutral, and that leaves red as the ground.

Dont you only need to wire 12volt to an inverter if shore is already 110 no need for inverter or am i missing somthing?

This is an inverter/converter so it will take 110 and convert it to 12v to charge the battery. Inverter does the opposite, transferr 12v to 110. Thanks for watching
