Suzanne, FANTASTIC! Thank you. I like when a teacher shows it all together and the results all together as well. Makes for a perfect tortorial with nothing left but to rewatch the instruction and have your questions answered. Ots 9bvious why but it and allows the student to try them all or choose the one that works for them for the project they are working on.

This is such a helpful guide to short rows in garter stitch! Thank you! One thing I’m having a hard time finding decent information on is short rows in garter stitch, while working flat, BUT while also working the short rows on both sides of the work. For example, when building up the center of the work, in a sort of mountain shape. The problem is, when I work back over the turns/wraps, it looks great on one side, but not on the other! Any tips on how to work the wraps or non-wraps in this situation? I’m thinking I need to twist one set of the wraps so they tighten up but I’m not sure how or where. If you ever make a video tackling this challenge I’d be eager to see it! Thanks again 😍
@SuzanneBryan

Practice on a swatch. Also, garter stitch looks just great if you wrap, but then don't pick them up on the return row. That is actually my preferred short row method in garter stitch.

I love your video's, I've learned so much already! You have encouraged me to try (and succeed with!:)) jogless stripes, intarsia and stranded colorwork. For short rows I nearly always use the TSK and TSK as described in the Fish Lips Kiss Heel pattern. Have you heard of those, and what do you think of them?
@SuzanneBryan

Thank you so much for your lovely comment. I have tried those, in fact I made a pair of socks and used the German Short row heel for one and a Fish Lips Kiss heel for the other and did not see a discernible difference. I am always experimenting. Happy knitting.

Hello Suzanne i have watched several of your videos and you are amazing at showing how to do a particular stitch or whatever! But i have a question and i hope its ok to ask here. I am having trouble finding this particular situation. I am knitting a pattern in which you make wedges using short rows using garter stitch. The pattern uses W&T. I can do it but it looks just awful for some reason so it was suggested to me to use GSRs. In the pattern on the first right side short row, you knit 3 then w&t then knit wrong side. Second right side row, you knit 7 then do your w&t. In my mind I remember it as “ knit to wrapped stitch then knit 4 (knit wrapped stitch and 3 more) then w&t again. This sequence keep’s repeating throughout the wedge until all stitches are used. So every right side row you are knitting 4 including wrapped stitch. How do I convert this to GSRs? I do know you knit one more stitch…..turn and do DS. Do I start row one by knitting 4 instead of 3 then turn and ds? Then on next right side row, do I knit the same number as in the w&t instructions…..knit to wrapped (or ds) then knit 4….(the ds and 3 more) before turning? I hope I have made sense here. I am fairly new at knitting and get confused easily! I really really appreciate any help you or anyone can give me. Thank you so much!

I noticed you are using a circular needle. I have been trying to get used to using one but having lots of trouble. The plastic cord always seems to be in my way; curling, twisting, etc, and then sometimes my stitches get too tight if I am not careful and then I cannot get the stitches back onto the needle. Yikes, so many times I have had to pull out my stuff because of tight stitches. That is horrific when there are a lot of stitches in a row. Got any suggestions? Thanks!

@@huimink7544 For those knitters who are making the Half + Half Triangles wrap, the pattern is written so that the instructions for what to do immediately after you make the turn are written as a new row. For example: ROW 4 Knit to Marker, Remove M, Wrap and Turn ROW 5: Knit 1, Place Marker, Knit to the end of row. So it helps to remind yourself that after you make that turn, you are starting a new row, according to that particular pattern.

Intresting and good to know. Thank you for this lesson! Every single short row method must have its own abbreviation in a knitting pattern, is it not? Maybe you could write them down on this page?
@SuzanneBryan

Some do, some don't. Often the designer will tell about the short row techniques in the special stitches section. For Wrap and Turn short rows you will see - W&T, German Short Rows use the Double Stitch which is abbreviated as DS, Yarn Over Short Rows will tell you to make a yo, Japanese Short Rows will tell you to place a pin, etc. Hope this helps.
