I agree, I could get a regular iPad for the same price and have a device that does so much more. hopefully the Remarkable 3 and 4 will have more features and be more affordable as the technology matures (I know eink has existed for a while but the actual writing tech seems to be relatively new and underdeveloped based on reviews of other similar tablets) edit: the accessories are also way overpriced...

Yeah an iPad makes so much more sense, instead of moving the pdf to an unrelated device, marking it up, and sending it back out you could do it all in one on the iPad. Plus if you don’t like the UI of a notes app you can just get another one, you wouldn’t be stuck to what they think is best. Not to mention if you’re in to art, having a color display might be a lot better.

Happy to see this, but two points for clarification: you can bend the cover to the back of the tablet do it doesn't had the incline and it's perfectly fine, and the pen gets placed a little bit higher on the rim than he did here, and it. stays. there. As for the shading part, with the pencil, if you tilt the pen you can actually get pretty realistic shading (much better than is showcased here) both my sister and I have been using it to draw.

^This. The pen (as in the pen type in the software) used in the video was clearly not one that supports pressure and tilt sensitivity, so the demo in the video is not at all representative of the actual drawing experience. If you switch to the pencil you get to take advantage of the full feature set. That said, I'm personally not a huge fan of the pressure sensitivity curve and the inability to adjust it yourself, but I let a couple of my artist friends try it and they had no complaints

Some points left out in this review that I feel need mentioning: - The battery can last you 2 weeks or longer depending on your use of the tablet. It's an e-ink tablet. As long as you put in on standby when you don't use it, it won't drain any battery outside of use. - You can select many different pen types, thicknesses and notpad formats. This is the MAIN reason why you would buy this thing, so I'm really surprised they didn't say anything about it... Things like hexagonal templates and different types of composer templates are really handy for all sorts of lines of work, not just artists. - The functionality of being able to draw on PDF-files is understated, this is my personal main use. I no longer have to print out files so that I can freely draw on them. I just send it to my Remarkable and start drawing. - There is also a handwriting to text option which works quite well, so if you're taking notes by hand during a meeting, just plop that on there and you have an e-mail of the meeting ready to go. - If you need a really in depth review of this product, check out @My deep guide on KZfaq. He has the best guides for e-ink tablets out there.

First of all they dont do reviews on Short Circuit, they do unboxing, first impressions stuff, its so they can cover stuff that does not make sense for them to cover on their main channel. So dont expect perfection. well but it doesnt really give me anything a 330$ iPad a 100$ Apple pen and a 10$ screen protector for writing cant do, plus it gives a working tablet . -well okay 2 weeks is nice but i dont think you can drain an iPad in a day realistically. Maybe others do but i never saw charging my device sometimes as a problem, as at somepoint i need to sleep anyway. So as long as i never get caught out furing work I really couldnt care less. -Can do the samething on an iPad, but better because you have a good display, with lower latency and colours and probably the better stylus -get Goodnotes or any other good app and you can open and edit PDF files -Goodnotes does conversion, Onenote does good conversion I mean if you like that thing fine, i dont want to convince you otherwise, but whilst irrational reasons are still valid one to buy something, they really need to step up their game or step down their prices to convince to public their product makes sense. The other way would be to just claim this niche of eInk fans, but hey if(! dont know) their company makes money who am I to judge

@@derfurz8618 if you're comparing this to an ipad you're missing the whole point of it. This should be compared to actual paper rather than an ipad, since it is trying to stimulate that. It has nothing on an ipad, since that has way more processing power, color display, tons of apps and way more functionallity. This thing is meant to replace old fashioned pen and paper. Yes, at a premium, but for me personally it is worth it if it means no longer carrying around 2 or 3 notepads and a binder full of sheet music. I'm a millenial (in case that matters) but I still prefer using paper over typing, so this thing is a good in-between.

It is best as a note-taking/sketching device, though: it can only handle unencrypted e-pubs and the screen's just a little small for full-page PDF papers. If you want an ereader, get a Kindle or Kobo, and if your primary use-case is marking up full-page documents a 13-inch device like the Onyx Boox Max Lumi is probably better. However, if you just want an electronic notebook or sketchbook that can do those other things in a pinch, the Remarkable is brilliant.

Change to the "pencil" tool to do shading. 10:44 - You have the Marker too low. The eraser should be about 5mm from the top edge of the tablet. You'll feel a strong magnetic click when it's in the right spot. 11:00 - Fold the cover all the way around to the back. Don't leave it open on the table like that. To do shading, you need to change your pen type to pencil, paintbrush or a couple of the other options. You were using the fine liner, which doesn't do shading (because you can't really shade with a real fine liner). The shading can get very light with pencil. I've got one of these, I have a lot of meetings and find that I can't listen and type at the same time, so I used to fill heaps of notepads and it was hell organizing them. It's expensive, you need a particular reason to want this over an iPad, but if you do need it, it works really well.
