The monument on the side of Highway 91 tells two versions of the same event.
On the one side of the monument erected by the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, there is a description of "The Battle of Bear River," where soldiers and volunteers were fighting "Indians guilty of hostile acts against emigrants and settlers." On the other side, it tells the story of a village of 400 members of the Shoshone Nation who were massacre on a cold winter morning in 1863.
Lt. Governor Deidre Henderson took out her phone and took some photos of the roadside monument as she was shown around the Bear River massacre site by leaders of the Northwestern Band of the Shoshone Nation, who announced plans to restore the lands they recently purchased to the way it was in 1863 and open it to the public as an interpretive site.

I fully support this. I hope that I will be able to visit the site when it’s complete, and support the Shoshone people in other ways. There is no end to heartbreak when it comes to the history of what happened to the Native People.

The Bear River Massacre was one of the worst crimes perpetuated by the Mormons. Restore the land to the Shoshone.

No it wasn't the Mormons. They were unaware why the soldiers were there.

Why? So you can hold a grudge against a group you have nothing to do with because of something the U.S. Army did to another group you have nothing to do with?

Yes I agree the monument is supporting a fake narrative. Definitely not a battle it was a a massacre of innocent people. ...update the plaque has been changed to accurately represent what happened👍

This is a great idea I'm unclear who has ownership of the land it's not under the ownership of the Native Americans than it should be it would be a great gesture if the Mormons would donate some money towards this project

They must all leave from the west to the east, reverse migration if you will. 1st Nation Peoples should line up on the sides of the hwys so that they can all stop and kiss the asses of the descendants of the 1st Nation Peoples, who their ancestors murdered, raped and pillaged..then took the scalps in of all that they murdered for payment. One last thing before they leave they must tear down every Blgd, City, town, roads, ect..all that they've built on the land they've murdered for. Sell all they own so they can disperse it amongst the 1st Nation Peoples. Think I went too far?

35 indians choose war instead of peace and they engaged in theft of animals and properties. The kernville people petitioned the government to help. When the army got there they talked to the one of the Indians chiefs to tell them to leave....the ones that stayed fought back until death. Read the report for some clarification. It wasnt senseless

It was pretty senseless 😕 that takes a lot of ignorance to say something like that man, there’s a lot of history regarding this event. Go learn it! It’s a great way to show your respect for both sides of the story and learn what really happened.
