Thank you nikolaos333! Shostakovich is the best composer of 20 Century. I listened this great performance with tears because Japanese Choras sang in Russian language as if they are Russian people. Even though Japan and Russia still do battle northern territories but music has no border. Beautiful colaboration, Russian Orchestra and Japanese vocal group. Beauty saves the world. Thank you again nikolaos 333 ! この名曲をもっと日本のあちこちで演奏して欲しいですね。(ベートーベンの第九ばかりやらないで)日本の山や緑を守る意味でも。
Pleased beyond all measure to find this video. nikolaos, I can't thank you enough for uploading this beautiful piece of music so beautifully presented and performed. Bravo!

At last, this is the most favorite part of my mother!! She died five years ago. I handled her a CD of "Song of forest" as the last birthday present, as a result. She was very much pleased and ask me to play it again and again, to sing with the perfomance.

This music touches me so deeply because it is so uplifting! It's wonderful to hear it again. Thank you njicokaos333 for uploading this. If you can get your hands on the original Vanguard recording (VRS 422, Song of the Forests, plural) it would be great -- Conductor is Mravinsky, soloists are Petrov, Tenor and Kilichevsky, bass. Combined Choirs (including children's choir in the final movement) and State Orchestra of the U.S.S.R. It is truly magnificent! (The original master tapes were with Leeds Music Corporation.) Thanks again!

Correction: Petrov is the bass; Kilichevsky, the tenor. My liner notes got it wrong.

Imagine how good this would have been with a conductor who had some real connection with the music, and who looked up out of the score now and again to inspire the musicians. Too bad.

Hard to believe the same guy that wrote Shostakovich's 8th & 10th Symphonies wrote this smelly bit of tripe.
