Here's how to break 10 different pairs at the range. The crosshair in the video represents the shooter's point-of-aim. Use the crosshair to learn how you hit or why you missed a target.
ShotKam Gen 3 is a waterproof, lightweight, and durable video camera that mounts to your barrel. Designed as a training tool, the movements of your gun are revealed by the crosshair in the video (X in the middle).

I don't know who is doing your shooting for you. But this is a great video for fast targets, and targets that are out at longer distance's as well. Thanks.

Is a great help to see this sight picture. Makes it seem too easy. Thing to remember is always keep you eye on the clay not the cross.

I love watching these sporting clay vids!...What would really put them over the top (for me) would be knowing the choke used, the shot yardage and the lead....A lot to ask maybe, but a real enhancement in progress toward better shooting imho...Thanks.
@LexsLavrov
@LexsLavrov 5 жыл бұрын
I agree. What were the chokes is interesting. Maybe even more interesting would be to see same clay broken by different constrictions. Just for a comparison sake.
@tomlagatol4448
@tomlagatol4448 5 жыл бұрын
Showing different chokes for the same shot (IMHO) would be problematic relative to the yardage of the clay. IE, not much sense in demonstrating a “skeet choke” on a 50yd shot... BUT the selection of a Imp cyl or Lite Mod or Mod for a ~40yd would be a big help IMHO.
@LexsLavrov
@LexsLavrov 5 жыл бұрын
@@tomlagatol4448 Of course shooting 50yd with CYL is a matter of pure luck... I meant some comparison which makes sense. In Saint-Petersburg, Russia we do not have many shooting ranges at all, and bi ones especially. In 85% cases 35 meters shot will be considered a long one. But I see many shooters who shoot in competition with IM and even F!!! I can understand when someone using F for training... but in competition? I figure some people just lazy so they don't change chokes.

I suspect we’re both looking in about the same direction. I’m an old hand at shooting skeet, relatively new at sporting clays. My concern is solely about breaking more birds. I shoot an O/U 12ga and would NEVER be too lazy to not change/switch chokes when the shot would require it... As the old addage says, “Close only counts in horseshoes, hand grenades, ball room dancing and nuclear warfare”....(But not sporting clays! :>)

@@tomlagatol4448 Nice saying! :) (Although I didn't catch about horseshoes...) I am new in shooting, I shoot clays about 2 years. And I shoot pump action. And with giant holographic red dot sight. Setereotype breaker combo :) When you have only one barrell you must take care of proper choke selection.

Shoot it where it is going. Use the clock for a reference i.e. dropping to the right shoot it at 3 or 4 or even 5 o’clock. See space on front of the bird and shoot. The faster and further away the more “lead”. IM , LM or Mod for most everything. Pick one choke and stay with that.
@tomlagatol4448
@tomlagatol4448 5 жыл бұрын
Appreciate the advice but there’s no way on God’s green earth I’m going to pick a choke randomly and stick with it. What I believe what my Russian friend and I are looking for is some guidance WHAT one to pick under varying yardage.

You know... World is big place full of wonderful things... I have IF choke. Which is actually just a 150mm section of a barrel with mobilchoke thread on one end. In 35 meter radius in shoots like a slug. To hit something with this choke you have to be either lucky like pure 100% luck, or some kind of clay shooting god :) I shot in once. For pattern. I am pretty sure I do not want to stick with this one! :) Shooter is ought to have flexible thinking. If shooting conditions change - why not change your choke?

@@tomlagatol4448 I believe he means for a given course difficulty. An easy shorter course, you may be fine with an IC or LM, a Mod or IM, where as a long tuff course may require a FL or XF. A lot of Pro's shoot fixed choke guns F over F or F over XF, and shoot just fine. Albeit your margin for error (in close) isn't much, but they are comfortable with it. It's more important that you get the lead right than the choke. Even with the right choke, the wrong lead won't help you.

Bwanar1 thanks for your input. It gives me reason to consider avenues I hadn’t considered. What I am still interested in is (from a prospective of “”majority of shooters”, what non-pros are using for engagement in the 24-65m range....

@@tomlagatol4448 Your welcome, I've been a pattern fan my whole life. And I can tell you that each gun/choke/load combo will shoot a little different. No 2 patterns are alike. That being said, for the wide range your wanting to cover with a single choke, I would say minimum IM if your gun shoots it well to get coverage out to 65m. And Full if the majority of targets are on the long side of your spread. I would also pattern your gun with a few different quality 7.5 loads to see which preformed best from your rig. There can be quite a difference. Here is a great video that will show you an example of what patterns should look like from each choke at a range of distances. I have used this program before to develop my own personal loads.

Last 2 (two) targets show how to maintain lateral lead when shooting siding down clays .. Would be more helpful when you show shooter's stance along with the lead and the result

I was into Sporting clays several years ago and never was any good as I could never figure out how far to lead fast crossers !!! I am a right handed shooter thats Left eye dominate and even had my stock bent to left handed as I was told I needed to switch shoulders , I got even worse !! So I sold it for a huge loss and went back to playing golf !

That's a bummer, I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully a ShotKam can help you whenever you get back into it. This sport can certainly be frustrating when you don't know why you're missing. With golf you can see where the ball went, but shotgunning you can't see where the shot went. Regardless, thank you for watching and commenting. - Emily

Darrell, eye dominance can change with practice. I am not kidding. As for how much lead for fast crossers... my instructor once told me to intentionally miss in front... guess what... I started to dust them.

What chokes did you have in top and bottom barrels?
@Shotkam
@Shotkam Жыл бұрын
Great question! On the day, the shooter used modified chokes for both barrels. If shooting sporting clays, here's generally what we recommend: New shooter: Improved cylinder If you shoot in the 70's: Light modified If you shoot in the 80's: Modified I hope this helps!
