Top Tip for Sarah. If you need to braid wires again, especially over long dfistances, use your cordless drill. Just close the chuck over the wires, and let it do the work for you. End result will be more consistent twist ratio too. :)

Just don't go overboard with the number of turns - you aren't creating Cat5 cable - too many twists will just eat up length and not do much else.

Since this is a wiring project - if you are needing supplies we have a local to AZ company specializing in such things! ProWire! Also, be wary of buying wire from places like Amazon - the recent trend there is CCA (copper clad aluminum) masquerading as 100% copper wire. CCA is more brittle (how fun it always is to find wire breaks) and only carries ~80% of the conductivity of pure copper wire. So always makes sure you are buying something like TXL or GXL wire. I generally only order wiring supplies from places like Painless, American Autowire, etc. Also, for heat-shrink if you need something smaller than a heat-gun , PowerProbe makes a small butane torch that also can double as a soldering iron - however it is my go-to for heat-shrinking. I am currently re-wiring a customer's vintage Datsun, so thought I would share some tips since I have been doing automotive wiring in the custom / hot-rod / race spaces for a couple decades.

Pro tip on doing a twisted pair of wires. Clamp one side of the wires and pull them tight from the other end... Secure the loose end of the wires in the chuck on your drill and spin twist them with the drill. Over twist them a little because the twisted pair shouldn't have gaps between the wires when they relax.

Hi Sara.I really enjoy your wiring of Mr Dos. If you ever need high temperature insulated wire try Teflon insulated wire. It's not much more expensive. The insulation does not melt when soldering like PVC. It is what we use in aircraft. Note if you twist wires the total length will decrease. Make sure your wires are long enough. I like your use of the relay that you re- engineered.

You did not explain it much, but commented that the sensor wires would ground to that transmission ground. That is usually a big no no. Usually the sensors ground into the ECU. Then the ECU main ground is grounded. Since the sensors are often a reference ground, if they go to a chassis ground the reference can be off in the ECU, and also noise from other components can be introduced.
@Turbochargedtwelve
@Turbochargedtwelve 3 жыл бұрын
Yes sensors should be on an ecu supplied signal return, sensor ground, zero volt reference or whatever the manufacturer calls it. However, you should ground the ecu to the engine block not the battery. This way if you have one wire engine sensors, that are grounding to the block the ground reference for the ecu and sensor are still the same.
