Should i back roll the walls. In this video I will show you how to back roll walls and why it should be done. Back rolling is also known as how to lay off walls which is done to smooth out the orange peel affect from the roller. Should walls be back rolled, yes they should.

Good to hear, that's why i created this channel, to help people like yourself do their own painting and do it properly. Hiring someone like me is expensive for a first time home owner or a young family starting out so I made these video's to help those who can't afford to hire someone to do it for them. My floor plan was complex and there was quite a lot of trim ~ crown, baseboards, window & door casings, doors. The prep work took the longest as both the trim and the drywall needed a fair amount of repair and sanding. Mind you, the house was EMPTY and it still took WEEKS. There is NO WAY to do the whole place while you live in it ~ NO WAY. You got to get out, or do it before you move in.

Absolutely a waste of time. You never have to back roll flat paint, especially primer. This is laughable.

I've tried to back roll the walls but I'm left with streaks and roller marks? Also, do you have to break down a large wall into smaller sections to apply the back rolling technique?
@howtopaintinfo
@howtopaintinfo 3 жыл бұрын
Yes you can break it down to smaller sections, it all depends on weather conditions and how long the paint is taking to dry. So try working in smaller sections making sure there is no strong breeze blowing by as that will dry the paint quicker. Also don't go too thin with the paint as it will dry too quick and you won't have time to back roll. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.

How do you avoid the stipple texture, when laying off the paint. I find laying it off lifts the paint up to leave a texture? Do you use this technique when doing ceiling too. Thanks.

It would be ready for another dip in the paint but you should never force all the paint out the roller, there should always be a bit in it.

I noticed going over a small section on my bedroom wall it turned out with some marks & isn’t coloured in properly. The wall was originally done 2 years ago. I just wanted to repaint the small section with the same paint but I didn’t use a roller just a paint brush. Do I need to repaint the whole section of that wall? as the new paint may look slightly different to the original wall paint that has been settled 2 years ago?
@howtopaintinfo

Should you also sand in between coats? So after the first coat, should you wait for it to dry then sand once more before you add a second coat so the finish looks a lot more smoother? Also I seen a video where they say you should use sponge with sugar soap to wash the wall or where original marks were before repainting?

You mentioned 'orange peel,' which makes me grit my teeth because I am re-painting walls that were previously badly painted - and as a result have more orange peel than I would like. Without applying mud/sanding/etc, is it sometimes possible to reduce the orange peel (for example by using a good primer and finish paint)? Thanks!
@howtopaintinfo
@howtopaintinfo 3 жыл бұрын
Once orange peel it there it is hard to get rid of but hopefully will look better with every coat of paint you put over it as it will fill the surface slightly. You can give it a sand first, this might help remove some of the peaks of the paint. Also there are some high build paints on the market they may help. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.

Back rolling on a huge ceiling is like impossible especially with lots of light natural light at that. It always leaves a darker shade or pulls the paint causing you to have to roll back and off of your overlap vs back rolling off of it 😤I haven’t figured how to do huge ceilings without some imperfections and been rolling for years now small normal ceilings and walls no problem .
@howtopaintinfo
@howtopaintinfo Жыл бұрын
It can some times be the paint you are using, I have found some ceiling paints dry without showing overlap marks and others show almost all overlap marks and they are all flat finishes. Maybe try a different brand of ceiling paint that might help. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.

But now youre pulling paint off with dry roller. I think if you just left it , it would level out smooth. If not just sand it. Its just primer.

No it doesn't pull the paint off as it is new plaster board and its soaking in. All the back rolling does is level the paint out as I do put plenty on. You can sand it and I do but if you leave heavy orange peel then it would be a hard job to get it back smooth. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.
