This video will show you 1 person who has driven a combined 500,000+ miles on two Chevy Suburbans. The first one is a 2001 with 344k miles, and the second has 172k. This is a true testament to the longevity of a Suburban.

I'm literally sitting in my family's 2002 suburban right now while typing this. Got 362k miles right now and is still running pretty well. I've never noticed anything off while driving it and it's one of my favorite cars to drive
@Josh-xj3fm2 жыл бұрын
That’s awesome how often did you change the oil and what did you use?
@norsefire202 жыл бұрын
@@Josh-xj3fm lol well about that...the engine started not doing so well at 376k, and it started not getting good oil pressure and started burning a lot of oil, not to mention it had oil leaks EVERYWHERE, so I'm actually replacing the engine. New one has 120k, got it from Marketplace, was a project engine that didn't pan out. Kinda mad I couldn't hit 400k lol. In terms of how often and what was done, I can't say for most of its life honestly because I was 6 when we got that Suburban and I'm 23 now, sooo...but I do know my dad sometimes let the oil go for a while (like 10k) and occasionally put heavier oil in because he thought it would help it last longer (Idk what he used, like 10W-30/50 or something like that). Not sure if that really did anything good or bad, but something to note. Normally I think it was about every 5k. When I started getting into cars a few years ago I religiously changed the oil about every 4k. Honestly that was pretty much it. In terms of what oil, again I can't say for most of its life, but it was all done at a mechanic so I'm assuming it was good. When I started doing them I used only Mobil-1 5W-30, exactly what it calls for. Obviously my dad and I love the truck or we wouldn't be replacing the engine, highly recommended if you're in the market. Maybe this new one will hit 400k!

Nice interview. Both Burbans are great. I particularly love the 2001/2002 Suburbans. This ones in special are very odd and genuine. I just think they are the perfect form of the early 2000s. I own a 2002 Suburban. I bought it used with 175K and I brought everything to original and working (radio, speakers, replaced lights and electronic stuff) also added an upper-level rear ac control HVAC. Bought a push bar for the front and at the stock wheels, I have 305/65 R16 Nitto Terra Grappler. My wife and I use it every day as Daily Driver here in Broward Country FL were we live. We try to keep mint. We’ve already gone to Key West, Cape Canaveral, Daytona Beach and we are planning to go to California in 2020. I do everything on my own. It is unbelievable that with couple sockets and a Philips screwdriver you can perform services. Since I got it I’ve already replaced the Water Pump, Radiator, Fuel Pump besides the tune-up. I am pretty sure our car is ready to run another 200K with no issues. That’s my second one. I had a 2001 Yukon XL before that, unfortunately, was totaled in an accident.

Parts are so cheap and for specifics Body and upholstery parts, there are plenty of them in the Junkyards. Great to get an OEM. Another highlight is that you do not need only a burban. Yukon's and Escalades also works.

It's very hard to beat the Suburbans, Yukons, Tahoes, and full size GM pickups for reliability of those good old pushrod V8's. That 2001 he has is in great shape for as many miles as are on it. If it were down here in Texas it wouldn't be rusty but the clearcoat would likely be really tired instead. Another great thing, and i imagine this isn't unique to Texas, is that these are EVERYWHERE so replacement parts are easy to find if you're looking for something gently used.

Working on many, and owning a 2004 Z71 with 225k, I find those with VINs that start with a 3 are noticeably more susceptible to problems than those with a 1. A GM engineer I talked to at the Daytona 500 years ago said Mexican blocks have less nickel and suffer from casting integrity issues. I haven't researched that, but I find Mexican made have more oil blowby issues. They are still amazing, the fact that this is the longest running nameplate in history is a good indicator. It's not just Suburbans...any full frame, full size V8 GM vehicle is one of the most financially sound investments a consumer will ever make. The only thing better would be 3/4 ton Duramax 'Burbs but I doubt they can make a business plan for that. Considering some cost near 70k with a gas engine, diesel would likely be too expensive. Bravo GM for making card like these that people can rely on day in and day out.

That's very interesting. I always check carcomplaints .com before buying a used vehicle. 2004 was a "clunker" year, it sounds like there was a bad batch of trucks that got produced. Ironically 2006 seemed to be on one of the most reliable years ever produced before the body style change

Recently added a remote spin on filter setup (using a Derale 13005 filter head) for extra filtration. Repairs I've done over the years: fuel pump, front hubs, knock sensors, oil pan gasket, rear hatch and glass struts, suspension and steering (shocks, springs, idler arm, swaybar bushings/endlinks, etc), wheels/tires (20" 5 spokes from the gmt900), and brakes (upgraded front calipers/rotors to gmt900's). Along with all normal maintenance crap you'd do on any daily driver. A lot of that stuff I didn't "have" to do, but I wanted to keep it running nice. GMC engineers these trucks for do everything longevity. Had a 1995 GMC Suburban. Comfortable, great for anything. Not too bad for fuel economy considering what it is. Rust protection could be better but I am sure that has changed.

I don't have a Suburban but I do have a Silverado 1500 with the 5.3L. It depends on how well the previous owner(s) took care of it. I lucked out with my Silverado. I bought it with 174,000 miles and I now have 440,393 miles on it.

I've had this gen sierra, Silverado, Tahoe and suburban. My current suburban an '04 with 190k, I'd like to be able to justify getting rid of it because of an electrical issue I can't find... but really, if taken care of reasonably well, none of my vehicles have ever left me stranded. Suburban continues to do the job necessary.

My 99 had 327,000 and was running strong when I got rid of it. Only issues on them are fuel injectors if anything. Running techron kept them fine.

I know so many people with 2000-06 tahoe/suburban/ Yukon and i don’t think they are overly well built. What I do know is that the owners love them witch is why I think you find so many one owner high mileage ones. But almost always the speakers are blown, paint on dash and buttons gone, gauge cluster is completely not working, check engine ABS and airbag lights on, door panels are separating at the armrest and window switches, most have a new transmission, and lastly the headlights I always somehow lose. But the 5.3 will run forever and people love driving a big car so they keep em around

My 2005 escalade esv with 123k needs a new front diff.(bearings are whining now) Trans is a little sketchy. I replace air shocks with coil overs, fluids, spark plugs/wires, oil press. gauge sensor, drive belts. Maintenance items. The 6.0 vortec is a beast. silky smooth use castrol synthetic. Love it. owned it now for 9 years, never left me stranded.

It’s an Escalade so you of course have more stuff to break, plus they are awd instead of 4x4 so your front diff is constantly working

My 1999 Chevy Silverado 5.3L, 9 years ago had 202,000 and now has 290,000 miles and is still running strong and smooth on the original engine and 4L60-E transmission! @hedga0015 жыл бұрын
DIRTDIVER882 Most likely, you have the same one as me, the 4L60-E. That transmission is used across all GM 1/2 trucks and SUV both 2WD and 4WD. But they are all kinda of ways, look it up by the VIN, auto parts stores can also tell you, Wikipedia or better yet, ask Scotty Kilmer!

My 99 Sierra K1500 with 5.3, did great up to 193k, about 20k was towing 5k-7k trailers in the mountains of AZ, 6% grade and 110 heat in the summer. The trans lost 3rd and 4th gears, so we traded it in for a 96 K2500 Suburban with 7.4 with 110k. The burb tows much better, much less hunting for gears with it. Although it is prone to downshifting 3 to 2 and hitting the rev limiter, no idea why it likes to downshift to 2nd going 65MPH or over. It's still low miles at 129k.

I have a 2000 Chevy suburban 1500 LS 4x4 with the 5.3 current mileage is 304500. I have pulled 7000 lbs occasionally, lt has some rust in the rear lower pannels and the rockers. Repairs including the AC, starter, water pump, front wheel bearings and a widow regulator. Plus the routine maintenance. Recently the rear pinion assembly is going bad and is howling. I love this truck and decided to invest to keep for another 20 years. Installing a remanufactured rear axle assembly, springs shocks, CV, bushings and u joints. When the engine and transmission needs to be replaced l will do that with remanufactured components. Still much less expensive than a new truck. I do all the work myself witch saves a ton of money. Chevy trucks the right choice.
