Hank I worked at a used commercial truck dealer and a snow equipment manufacturer. In my opinion I would keep looking for a truck that had better maintenance. Changing hinges on a dump bed requires the bed taken clear off the chassis to cut out the old parts. Not a job without overhead crane. Also bed floor and suspension could be wore out.

That second truck runs worse than the truck my dad used to have (including raising and lowering the bed) and my dad’s truck was older than this truck. my dad’s old was a 1970 Ford 750 that needed some body work and engine work

Hank I have an International s1654 with a flatbed dump, it has steel sides that set on and off. Makes a perfect truck for both hauling hay and moving dirt. I recently purchased a 1992 International 4900 with a DT466 to move equipment with that is a great truck and engine combo, it was around $10000 and excellent shape. We drove it 6 hours home 🤣. I have several videos of them, might give you an idea of what to look for. Single axle International’s are the way to go! Enjoyed the video!

I had a dump truck and sold it this year. If CDL isn't needed, go bigger/ as big as you can load with your loader. Sitting kills all old trucks so make sure you'll use it or it will always be needing something.

If you decide on that one you might want to lift the bed and look at the Z-bar lift assembly completely. The pins for the life cylinder might be sloppy also. Just my thoughts Hank. Lots of work to do on the F800. Tires, metal in bed, exhaust leaks and being a gas burner. On the other hand, both will make for great videos.

a wonderful channel! I am happy to find it. I am always interested in old machinery. I got this from my dad as he owned a salvage yard and by the time he retired, he had acres of junk. Old buses, cars, trucks. As Steve Cross once said, "if you have a pile of junk around, in a few years you might could find something beautiful being created in this pile"! Or, something like that. Thus your channel brings me back to my childhood. Too, I watch this channel, out of many other possible old machinery channels because of your character and personality! I like the way your people laugh and cut the fool. I live in Tallahassee, not too far away. i have no car now, 80 years old, but I can still dream.

That's an unusually short wheelbase for a truck of that size. Was it a single axle tractor truck in a previous life? The advantage is the turning circle how many cubic yards can it hold?

Hank, first thing off, I do NOT want to offend you in any manor. I am looking at this rig from far away eyes. Does it have a two speed as it seems like he was moving it around in high range which will not show its abilities best. I like the wheelbase as it will be a short turning radius and thats very good, the bottom of the bed was not rusted out or hammered out. As for the dump being slow, that is a easy adjustment thing. I could tell it was gas and ran so so because a tune up hasn't been seen in a while. Some exhaust gaskets are needed and to tell the truth, no one likes working on exhaust but truthfully would go fairly good and not real expensive. Detailing the interior would be good and you have saved money cause he just wants off of it. Krylon makes it look just as good as the other kids trucks. I could see it has heavy springs, axles, and the frame doesn't look like its jacking from rust. I wasn't certain but it sounds like it has air on it so brakes are way cheaper to fix on this. I don't like those dayton wheels tho an most have that in that size truck. I get the air idea from the fact it looked like it had glad hands on it to pull trailers and have easy good brakes for that. A grease job would improve things also. The cab corners on it are not rusted out but the hood looked like the worst part of this rig. I'm sure that what ever he asked for it he would take half of unless its already around thirty five hundred dollars an that would be dirt cheap for it. I would call Wes and give him the info on this rig and he could tell you more from where he is at than you know standing there. It has low bed sides so easy to load five yard box on it. Eight to nine yard was on the double axle truck. Thats the perfect size box for a smaller truck. In these times, it probably is a good deal an it will sell quick.

@@HamiltonvilleFarm I am very happy to hear that. Reason I am so strong on those model ford trucks is the parts are much cheaper and you an Willey can do just about most anything or part on it. If you only go a little newer, then they are just as worn thin as well plus the the costs go up significant more

as someone who owns and operates dump trucks, you dodged 2 bullets there! I started with a 1974 Chevy c60. 366 tall deck engine, 4 speed +2 truck ran and hauled 10 tons great! keeping brakes on it was a nightmare. vacuum brakes... had a booster. then I upgraded to what I thought was a deal, ford l8000. severely underpowered. Looks like you need a 5 yard dump truck. As an aside, I know little about Ford trucks of the 80s, but those built in Louisville are known as being pretty stout. (Models beginning with L). An 8 or 10 yard would probably have tandem axles. Models with the four digit model are diesel, three digit are gas. CL would be cab over, L conventional, and LN (I think) would be "short conventional". If I were buying a used one, I would surely look for a diesel, as the gassers will probably have been run hard and put away wet. Ford also had a 534 CID gas engine, with lots of torque, and a fabulous appetite.

That second one needed way too much to even get it road ready. And it takes a week to let the bed down on it

I'm glad you didn't buy either one of those. Have you considered a trailer. They have some really nice dump trailers out there for you to choose from that you can pull behind your pick-up. No truck tag (they ain't cheap) or extra insurance. Just sayin

Yeah I did Ray. It’s a tough decision for the plans I have. But a trailer is definitely a good decision if I don’t get a truck.

As well as the white one is the one or type you need I dont see any further life in it, the red one is newer and as it may be a wider turbing radius you have more hauling capabilites and I see the red one so far off of the knowledge ive been provided so the red one is the best bet

In my opinion the white truck has been ducking the crusher for a long time the red truck needs a lot less work however it's your choice to make
