I am only 19, and running shoes did me so bad! When I was 13 I was told that I am flat footed, and need to wear orthotics because I was having bad back pain (I was well able to fix the flat footed part by now, and back pain isn't nearly as bad). I had orthotics for a few years, I would notice knee pains, hip pains, I would get ankle sprains, I had duck feet, and couldn't stand for more than a minute without discomfort. My right foot, the end where the 4th and 5th metatarsals are, that's where I feel all the pressure when I land with my foot straightened thanks to running shoes. I just got the vibram five fingers and it is stretching that out like I've never felt before, I assume the individual toe sockets are at play. Anyways thanks for making videos like this to inform people about the camouflaged harm we are doing such as shoes! I recommend getting into deep squatting, and why chairs are bad for you, and why you should sit and sleep on the floor for better joint and posture health.

Awesome comment mate thank you your story sounds very similar to mine honestly: flat feet, orthotics, pain -> minimal barefoot style lifted my arch, helped with my duck feet You're absolutely right with the chairs, another silent killer that I think most people know is bad at least but maybe just not how bad until they try to squat or play sport after years of chairs

Big shoe companies should get in the on the minimalist and barefoot shoes trend! It’s pretty much all I buy now. Also I’m going outside barefoot as much as I can this summer. I live in the country.

I know New Balance had a go with the Minimus shoes but pulled them from the shelf when people started getting injured from transitioning too quickly, I think they may have some available again now though I love the minimalist shoes too! Walking outside in the country is beautiful, at first it might hurt sometimes but you're feet will get tougher over time :)

Nah, I'll just do some walking and running on a variety of different surfaces, then I get the same type of training except I'm EXPLORING like a child. :) Winter = numb feet. Need socks that don't pick up thorns... I stepped on my first rusty nail sticking out of a piece of wood. That nail didn't stand a chance! As soon as I felt it I lifted up my foot and then used my foot to turn the piece of wood over. :) Had I been in shoes the nail probably would have just slammed through the shoe. :/

...GOT IT! A furry flap that attaches to the bottom of your trousers and sits on top of your foot, covering your toes, but not getting in the way of your contact with the ground. Theoretically it should at least give you SOME extra warmth. Or just warm socks with the bottom completely cut away. That sounds a lot simpler...

I was born with a condition called talipies (club food) I be very curious how my feet would cope with being barefoot. I do spend some time in sumner hear in the UK barefoot.

There’s a point of clarification I think you missed. You say 79% of runners were injured and then Nike made cushioned shoes. It’s not like people were getting injured at 79% and Nike swooshed in to save the day. In the 70s the injury rate wasn’t 79% it was much lower. Nike came out with cushioned shoes and THEN people started getting hurt.

I started using minimal shoes since my feet have spread but my left foot has spread more which I know find normal shoes difficult to find a fit.. Now my left foot now has a very small tailors bunion with that foot spreading more but this foot does have a slighty lower arch /weaker.. Will using mare foot more an more make it stronger or should I do alot of specific arch exercises
@VaughanThompson
@VaughanThompson 3 жыл бұрын
Awesome story and transition! In terms of the extra work it's always good to have both a stretch and a strengthen part so if you were using something like toe spacers to spread out using foot exercises like the 'toe piano' or just raising the big toe and holding the others down then raising the others and holding the big toe down for a few rounds Those will help with the toe splay and arch strength 🙂

@@VaughanThompson thanks.. Sounds like I'm gojng in the right direction.. I have toe seperators I use and I use a wobble board for balance which tbh I'm really good at.. I also have been doing my weight training barefoot or my minimal no cushion shoes.. :)

Hi, is wearing socks going to affect this at all or should it be ABSOLUTELY bare foot? My feet tend to get really cold even in the house. Do they get used to it?

Running barefoot VS running shod... Barefoot more economical. Nahhh, good thing that barefoot runner not a Black Lungs mate or end up with nothing economical 😂😂... Kidding. Anyway, there is only one way to get MAX balance mate. If you do have experience barefoot when you're a kid. It's time to use it back. Much more faster than you tell here since you already have that muscle memories 😉.. I joined the kids back playing barefoot soccer during rain turned a mud-field mate. The best balance naturally returned back!! 👍👍👍 Looking foward!!

Walking bare foot is such a natural thing to do for more than half the people in the world. Never thought it would be such a big deal as to require one to "learn" how to walk barefoot! Such a joke.
