Moved away from Texas 10 years ago. Still visit a few times a year because of family but there is no way I would ever move back to Texas. Most of it is a flat, concrete jungle, suburban mess, hot and humid. There are some good points to it as the caller identified such as housing and economy but that's about it. I agree with Dave on this one since the caller is already debt free. If you like Cali, like being close to family, like having easy access to outdoors and the beach then stay in Cali because you ain't gonna have any of that in Texas. You have to know what you're moving to, it's not just what you're moving away from.

Cheap homes have nothing to do with politics. It’s simple supply and demand
@artyumdragstov8823
@artyumdragstov8823 3 жыл бұрын
@@Misstresbelle there are multiple reasons for the valuation of property, but supply and demand can be directly affected by politics... as it is in California. (Rent Control, Strict Zoning Regulation, City Council Approval Boards, etc....) The reason why people moved to California in the past is because it was cheap back around 1970-90, it attracts businesses and thus attracts people. The state flipped from red to blue in 92, there had been a solid foundation set for people and businesses to continue to move there. The escalation of bad policy by California in the years since is now reaching a tipping point and will destroy the state. silicon valley will be the modern day Detroit in 20-30 years, empty warehouses(offices) everywhere.

People often incorrectly think about the homeless as a stagnant population. Fact is, very few people are born into homelessness. Homeless people are middle class people who lived paycheck to paycheck and ran into difficulties. So anyplace where cost of living is high will likely foster a homeless population. I was raised in CA and I have been to texas. While it can be nice, if you're moving just find cheaper places to live, there are lots of places you could move to. Texas is extremely dry and hot, and if you feel uncomfortable around guns (or are also a vegan), it's probably better to find a different place to move to. For moving out of California, Texas is not in the list with such insane property taxes. I mean California property taxes are not cheap, but are better than other states. While it is true that texas has no income tax, in the end is kind of the same thing as California where is expensive. I don't understand how they can pay such insane taxes for buying a house that is cheap. But, if it's for renting I imagine that is cheap. Maybe?Either way,, I don't think moving from cal.

There has been so called consumption tax (VAT) proposals to replace property tax, but certain interests don't like the idea. Many large businesses currently get huge tax breaks to locate in Texas, there is a possibility that others avoid significant taxes because of special deals. In theory a VAT would eliminate the backdoor exemptions. Gov Greg Abbott said the consumption tax is the way to go in a Tweet, but that's a far as it goes. Most of the VAT proposals exempt groceries prepared at home, rent, fuel house payments from the tax to make it less regressive. No editorial writers have taken up the consumption tax, probably because no specifics of how a VAT might function in Texas have been proposed. A bill proposing a VAT was introduced in 2021, but it never got out of committee. To some the VAT is an ideal means to get large corporations to pay taxes that they now avoid, to others it is the Mark of the Beast, a potential tax on every transaction.

There's a reason why housing markets are lower in cost in other areas. I once saw a reality show about house remodels in Texas and a married couple of doctors only had a budget of $200K for a house! Big clue. A couple with a kid I knew moved from So Cal to Ohio for a better job. A little over a year later, they wanted to move back but now couldn't afford it. The grass story applies here.

Wow this is almost my exact life situation as well. I live in Roseville, CA and recently accepted a job offer in Dallas Texas with the possibility of the job being in Austin Texas. I can vouch for the caller when he mentioned housing prices being almost double the price. Most of Roseville’s neighborhoods have houses going for 600k-1.5 mil. I’m talking normal suburb type houses. The mass exodus out of California is definitely real.

@@SuperFang1 bro, I lived in CA for 9 years & have lived in AZ the past 8. Pretty familiar with CA & how it compares to a “cheaper” state. The fact that people in populated areas of CA make a lot more $ than people in cheaper states is also a factor. We’re not comparing someone making $50k in CA compared to $50k in AZ & asking which goes further. The question is more like is someone making $100k in CA really worse off than someone making significantly less somewhere else? For home ownership & the ability to do that, I think yes. Otherwise, I generally think no tbh
