First, gifting earrings for a baby is weird. The baby and parents would benefit more by having clothes, toys, a crib etc. Second, they disrespected the parents wishes and put a baby through potential harms by bringing her to who knows where to get her pierced and creating injuries that could get infected. Three, bodily autonomy anyone? The baby is in no way able to consent to this kind of procedure at her age. The parents had it coming and OP definitely must stick to her boundaries

I think the whole thing was premeditated, they were either going to talk the parents into getting the baby's ears pierced or going to it themselves

You were right. All the other relatives are wrong. What if it was their kids was done to without their permission. An excuse that your sister and you got your piercing that's lame cuz at that time you were there kids. They were your parents. So yeah they did what they thought was right. Thei They are r grandparents grandparents have no rights except to spoil the kid. That's all you can do

Oh my god, the dad getting a SEPTUM piercing for the nose piercing deal is crazy 😭 As someone who has a septum piercing, they hurt so bad! Nostril piercings are much easier and less painful. Besides, you could always just use a super tiny stud or a clear piercing if you want it to be less noticeable.

I think it was a punishment so they can feel mutilated like they made her baby feel. Also so they can understand that if it hurt them to get it and have it in for awhile they can only imagine how the baby felt

I also believe that she wanted to make it so they didn’t have a choice because her baby didn’t have one either. That is probably the reason the mom wanted to wait until her daughter expressed that she wanted the earrings

I understand the infant girl's ear piercing is a cultural thing -- but totally disregarding the parents' wishes? no. demanding that the parents get their noses pierced as a condition of even easing your anger, considering visiting again was a lovely bit of irony.

I know people who get there children's ears pierced as infants usual only girls thought I think it's gross to modify a kids body without there consent unless absolutely medically necessary

Is common place to do in Brazil. However is necessary to be done by a healthcare worker (nurse or dentist for exemple). Also the earings need to be made of surgical stainless steel. Seems like the grandparents in this story were in a rush and didn't do it the proper way. It's very safe if you do it right. My niece just had hers done a couple months ago when she was a month old. She didn't even complain or cry at all.

It's common to peirce baby girl ears in lots of cultures. I got mine done at 2 months old😂 I don't wear earrings but the option to is cool.

It's actually pretty common for babies to get their ears pierced but, some parents let their children choose whether they want their ears pierced or not

No she didn't! She had already stated that they would wait until the child was older and the parents went against her wishes, breaking trust. Also the fact that they bought earrings for the child's birthday suggests that the whole thing was premeditated .

She did not over reacted because getting your baby’s ears pierced is supposed to be something you consent to, and it’s is supposed to be special moment so that is why I do not think she over reacted!
