Should I Upgrade FRONT or REAR Suspension First?

The decision of which end of the bike you should start with (front or rear), when upgrading suspension (if you don't plan to do both front and rear at the same time), is based on what suspension aspect you are trying to improve first. The question you must ask yourself is "Do I want to improve my suspension more in terms of handling and control, or comfort/ride quality?"

just changing the rear shocks will make a huge difference! since it's the easiest do it first, then you can't wait to do the front. LGB!

We pay over 30k for a Motorcycle and we talk about upgrading suspension like it's reasonable. How about Harley Davidson making the bikes correctly to begin with? That's the more important question.!

We couldn't agree with you more! Some bikes are already reaching the 50K mark and they come with the same suspension (for the most part) as the base line Street Glide Standard.

Why? Because customers are programmed to accept what they get form the Motor Company. With Indian offering higher level components this might change if enough switch brands.

Hell it still wouldn’t matter it’s like he said in a video everyone is different let’s be real more than half that buys any bike is for hobby and hobby’s usually cost money and for one they spend more on looks than anything now because is they built it rite they would’ve gotten the crank rite when they started with the twin cam

@@creigmacc Nah. It doesn't matter if it comes with better stuff. Very few people buy motorcycles and decide, "This is enough I won't change a thing." People need to realize that it might not be, "Their suspension is crap!" It might actually be that aftermarket sellers like Legends make a product so good that stock seems horrible. Indian may come with better performing components, but people will STILL change the suspension, change the cams, upgrade the airbox etc. etc. So it isn't about a brand putting cheap parts. I think it's more about the aftermarket is so much better. If I buy a truck, the stock suspension is fine. HOWEVER, there are better suspensions out there but no one complains that the stock suspension is crap. HD's stock suspension is also fine, but there is WAY better out there. So personally, I think the whole thing about crying that HD puts sub-par parts on is shortsighted. Also, Indians are just as expensive as HD nowadays and people are still changing the suspension and everything else. So the arguments don't really stand up to any criticism.

I had Revo A's installed last summer and it was a huge improvement. This summer I had Axeo front suspension added. This is on a 2019 Streetglide. I am amazed at how much better it tracks through a corner. I find that rough pavement is handled much better and much better at holding your line through the corner. I am really happy with the suspension upgrade, it is like a new motorcycle now.

Literally just upgraded front and rear suspension last weekend HOLY HELL! BADASS BRAND NEW RIDE!!! Definitely Boost Confidence! Put the Legend Axio in front...... I did go with 13.5 Fox Factory rears because I'm impatient and didn't want to wait to get the extra cash($100 difference) for the legend rears. I'm actually glad you made this video because it does pertain to my situation I'm the type of person that wants to do the both at the same. The legend Axio front suspension allows my bike to hit the corners harder & bike leans more and Definitely feels planted to pavement. The front of my bike does not dive down when braking, isn't mushy (gotta love stock HD front suspension) New Jersey roads suck... Potholes, bumps all right thing of the past!! Great product!!!! 💪 Ride Safe

After saving for a while, I did both on my Road King. To say they made a difference is an understatement! While I usually ride with the RevoA set on a 5 or 6 (I'm a small rider), I was shocked at how big a difference the front suspension made. Was able to take my Scarlett out on the track about 3 weeks after the install and was dragging floorboards lap after lap. What would have NEVER happened with my OEM suspension. BTW, loved seeing Lance and Gaylin on the b-roll footage.

@@LegendSuspensions on my 2019 SGS, I rode with the stock shocks for a year and they were horrible. When I bought this bike, Harley and my dealer said it had 3” of travel up from 1 1/2, so I didn’t have them install them before I picked up the bike. I did about $15,000.00 in upgrades and I thought I had done everything I needed to. After 200 miles, I knew I wouldn’t be happy so I brought it back in for the rears. Hey Jerry, You are absolutely correct. The front and rear suspension play different parts in comfort and performance, so you get different upgrades from each-one. That front suspension will make as big of a change as the rears did. Better anti-dive, more control, better steering. And We preach, often that the best time for front upgrades is during alterations to front end or during fork service. " While you are in there" is a cost saver for sure. Just do both. You’ll love the ride when there both done along with a full 1” to 1.5” drop. The drop will lower the center of gravity and be extremely more balanced and also help to turning feel more natural. If you can’t afford both I feel I would do the back first with about a 1.5” total rear drop. No rubbing issues even with a passenger on my 13 ultra
@Lurch-Bot
@Lurch-Bot 6 ай бұрын
Lowering a bike just reduces cornering clearance and suspension travel. I went the other way and raised the rear about 1.5" because I wanted crisp turn in and lean angle. Only dropping the rear will make the bike more stable in a straight line but also harder to turn because you are increasing rake angle. Lowering the whole thing will keep handling characteristics pretty much the same as far as turn in goes. And I think you are confusing the effects of a better suspension with better spring and damping rates with the effect of lowering. Steering does feel a lot more natural when you aren't trying to work against some weak ass springs with insufficient damping which is how a stock Harley is set up. Like it is a 1978 Lincoln Town Car or something.

@@Lurch-Bot I personally am not one who rides hard so cornering or rubbing pipes is not an issue for me. This will have built in suspension sag and will lower your front end and bring your bike back to level. The height gained from your wheel and tire will be corrected by this kit. Ralfwoick3710 Thanks for the comment. There are several great options. The Revo or Revo-A is hand down the most popular option on this bike. We offer them in 12" or 13". Most of the time we recommend the 13" due to getting additional suspension travel and the 13" shocks sit right about 12" when the sag is set. @LegendSuspensions
@LegendSuspensions 2 ай бұрын
Hey there, What you are wanting is the exact natural biproduct of what Legend Suspensions offers. On the Axeo you have oil and nitrogen in the cartridge system, with a piston in the middle and they handle different aspects of your riding. the more you cruise the more if will give you comfortable casual, as soon as you get more aggressive the piston moves and the force being applied firms up your ride based on the input it is receiving. Think automatic transmission for suspension. The rear suspension works just the same. Coil or AIR ride will both give you this. When you set the suspension sag it is telling the shocks how much you weigh and to use all the travel without bottoming out. Then the rebound controls how fast or slow the shock extends after hitting a bump. This is perceived as soft to firm. But the sag setting is going to allow you to cruise in comfort and then get aggressive and it will instantly react based on the input you give and the velocity of the compression and shaft movement. We hope this answers your questions and please feel free to reach out of you have any other questions. service@legendsuspensions.com or we have a live chat Monday- Thursday Thank you.

2016' Road Glide Ultra CVO, for a 40 grand plus bike the stock HD suspension is crap. I did legend both ends and you would swear it's a totally different bike! Put Legend Revo A on back and Axeo on the fronts all of it is of top quality design and build. The first time I had the wife on the back it took less than 5 minutes before she complimented the ride improvement. My only beef is there is absolutely ZERO customer service,via phone, if you have a question you have to email legend and wait a few days for a response. In my case because I have a CVO model and the instructions only addressed the non CVO type front end. The CVO, stock, had dampers in both legs where the regular model does not and the instructions do not address that, or at least they used to. Legend needs a human to answer a phone. In my case I ended up taking the front end from top to bottom apart and back together twice to do it right.

@LegendSuspensions
@LegendSuspensions Жыл бұрын
Hello, On the Electra Glide, we recommend 13" Rear shocks with Heavy Duty spring rate for this bike, the Revo, Revo-A or Revo-ARC would all work great depending on the level of adjustment you might want or need. For the front suspension the Standard height Axeo could work or the Axeo21 for 97-13 Touring. If you have a 21" front wheel and you are using the stock front fender with out the use of lift brackets, and you plan to leave the front fender stock in the stock location then you can use the Standard height Axeo, If you have lift brackets on your front fender or a fender designed for a 21" front wheel, then we only recommend the use of the Axeo21 for this application. We recommend the preload on the front suspension be set by Rider (the main rider) weight only per the install guide. For any other technical questions please reach out to our customer service dept service@legendsuspensions.com or use our chat feature on our website to ensure you get exactly what you need.

Hello Rich, The 13" Revo-A is a crowd favorite! it does everything well. Depending on the weight on the bike most often, will decide if you need standard or heavy Duty springs, but rest assured we offer spring swaps so there is no risk of being stuck with something that just does not work for you. If you are 400-500lbs on the bike 50% of the time or more we think you would be pretty safe on the HD spring rate, it is still softer than stock suspension.

We typically tell people to start at 3 and go out and ride with that. You can pick a road that has bumps and adjust the rebound to 1, go out and hit the bumps. Then turn around, click the rebound into 6 and then hit the same bumps. This helps you figure out what exactly is going on. It is really just a personal preference and also depends on the roads and your riding style.

What is the average cost to do both front and rear

Definitely rear, you ride on the rear and your passenger too. The front is adequate enough. Iv owned over 15 Harley touring bikes in my time. The rear is the best bang for your buck. I run legend Revos.

We can definitely tell you about our shocks all day. But we do not talk about other companies, so we suggest asking them about their product and make a decision from there.

You shouldn't need to upgrade the suspension on a $30 to $40,000 dollar bike, that's what I hate about Harley Davidsons, they're substandard, over priced, and way over-rated, if you want to worship something, worship God, not a motorcycle that will leave you stranded in the middle of nowhere "/

We agree! all Harley motorcycles should come standard with Legend Suspensions.

@@LegendSuspensions I can't afford Legends, may try progressive 430s, they're $575, that's well over my budget, but maybe I can scrape it together "/
