The likes of Hojlund, Garnacho and Mainoo are very lucky to have a coach like Ten Hag that’s exceptional at developing young talent. The longer Ten Hag is at United, the more we will get to enjoy these little gems coming through the academy.

Just because he is ahead of them does not mean he needs to start. there are plenty of other talented people to put in the midfield. Foden should be there instead of stuck out on the wing. Grealish, Bowen, Saka and Gorden would be our 4 wingers. Tony, Kane + maybe watkins for strikers. Foden, Trent, Bellingham, Mainoo, Rice and Maddison.

That's why England need to play a Diamond formation and do not play the 4231 because it is too risky. With Diamond formation England does not need a pure striker but only need 2 converted wide striker who usually play in the wing or attacking midfielder like Saka and Maddison.

With Diamond formation, midfield area will be dominated by England and it should be utilized by Southgate as the weapon because England boast some of the best midfielders in the world. You got Foden, Bellingham, Maddison, Saka, and Palmer who are very prolific midfielders in the term of scoring goals.

If you're good enough, you're good enough. Doesn't matter how long you've been playing senior football, how old you are or when you got your first call up. Mainoo is good enough and he should absolutely start if available.

One of the only real positives from man utd as a club in the past few years, say what you will about eth but he has definitely given some young players a chance. I think mainoo is a player who plays with the intelligence of a seasoned pro, yet still so young

He is already better than some of the underwhelming players like Gallagher and Phillips, Mainoo has it. He makes the game look calm and easy, where the other two make it look rushed and chaotic.

I think even Gareth would have to admit that not having that midfield 3 would be ridiculous . He has more pressing problems with his defence . Considering he was a defender we look absolutly diabolical in that area ! Konsa, Dunk,chillwell, and gomes are definately not the amswer. On the other hand I thought Bowen and Toney did really well. Foden needs to do more aswell, He is capable of it ! I hope he isnt one who just fails to do for his country like others before him

I agree I thought Dunk was awful and even slower than Maguire - god knows why Dunk started twice? Konsa wasn’t amazing but understand was playing rb in first game. I thought it strange he didn’t even play Branthwaite for 1 min - even tho he’s tipped to be the next best center back talent - 6’5” and comes out the box and much faster . Also Chilwell played terribly over 2 games - surely Luke Shaw would be number 1 choice if he can get fit for the Euros

Didn't think Konsa had a bad game and was solid against Brazil could be a good back up for both center back and a more solid defensive right back more like a back 3 if Walker gets injured. Agree Bowen did well both last night and against Brazil he's very direct and different to the other forwards offering something different. Think it's a toss up between Toney and Watkins I'd take whoever is in best form. Agree not sure why Branthwaite didn't play unless injured.

Well he should start before Jordan Henderson starts, that's for sure. It seems like he has a natural talent, both on the ball, and spotting a pass. That's everything that Henderson doesn't have.

Depends if Southgate's going for a double pivot or playing more attacking. Mainoo easily slots into a double pivot because the alternatives are Henderson and Phillips next to rice which no one wants. Personally I'd rather see Foden or Maddison playing centrally with Bellingham, with rice as a single pivot.

The best performers for England over the last 3-4 years have been Sterling and Phillips both of whom are pretty much out of contention for selection because of their form, so that's actually huge when you think about it. England are weaker than they were last Euros
