The key word to his success: humility. A quality the world is running short of. Probably the reason why he is so recognized and admired. A quality that can be pretty contageous in any locker room. If the team´s main player is so humble how will it affect the unity within the team ?

Croatia has quality in their team but Modric is a different level. I have watched Luka since his early days in Dinamo Zagreb. You could see then his football brain and technique was on a different level. What surprised me about about Modric is how he has become a great leader and captain for the national team. I didn’t think that was in him. This World Cup their midfield was really good but they were lacking quality up front. Having ball playing center back like Gvardiol also helped as they did not have that type player in defense in 2018.

You are talking about Ballon d'or player,player who successfully helps teammate's in defense,perfectly contoling/directing midfield and producing the passes up in front

He might not have the Galacticos around him for Croatia but to be fair he's had some quality guys around him. Rakitic was world class and not a bad midfield partner. This year he had Kovacic who has been at the highest level since 18, Brozovic probably underrated outside of Italy.

Add Perišić and Manđukić to them, Lovren and Gvardiol in the back, some fine skills from Juranović as we seen against Brasil.. Croatia is full of talent.

@@blouh2o744 Croatia have a lack in scoring goals, since they make a lot of opportunities. But definitely Real could learn from some combinations in attack that Croatia creates.

2018 wc croatia squad first team by club ( 9 were first team players ) From att to def : Juventus Inter M , Milan Barcelona , Real M , Inter M , Real M Milan , Dynamo K , Liverpool , A Madrid Monaco Too many people think he played alone , he didnt , he was superb , but he was surrounded by world class players .

Yeah, as time goes on and Modric's legend gets bigger, the more people tend to forget how stacked that 2018 Croatia team really was. Central midfield trio from Real-Barca-Inter...Kovacic who was at Real at the time was on the bench. Up front Mandzukic who around that time was probably top 4-5 target man in Europe...Perisic an elite winger...

True, he did not play alone 2018. But he is playing for Cro from 2006 and with far less good team he did well too. Only refs and unluck stoped Cro for better results in 2008., 2012. and 2016, maybe even 2014.

@@thomaskelly3474 Mandzukic was good, Perisic was good, Rakitic was great, some others were good too but non of them was elite player exept Modric. Rakitic was close but not true elite.

Silly comment as Croatia have a top top team . Best midfield in the world with Modric, Kovacic, Brozovic , Rakitic before, Kranjcar was a top technician in the past who linked well with Modric, Lovro Majer will be a top midfielder, add in Perisic in his prime before, Mandzukic, Srna and Eduardo before too, Gvardiol is the best defender in world football and so many other top players Croatia have had through the years that Modric played with. They've always been a top team. This fella is clueless ...

You are correct. Croatia doesn't have Real middield trio, but Croatian midfield can play against any NT midfield in the world. But in Russia 2018. Croatia had no ball playing central defender, so Modric had to come to his 16m to start the attack. In Qatar there was no right winger and no real striker in the team. There was always something missing. Which is normal for such a small nation. He is the way Lallana describes him. He works his ass off for Croatia

@@workinginthewell3498 When they got to a final they had a complete team - Rakitic, Modric and Brozovic all world class midfielders with Kovacic in reserve. They had Mandzukic up front who was a great striker and Perisic was then in his prime and one of the best wingers in the world . Croatia were a complete world class team in 98 too. Boban, Prosinecki two of the most technically gifted midfielders of their generation - Jarni Real Madrid wing back, Suker and Boksic(who was injured for the tournament) two of the best strikers in world football at the time . They always had a world class team ... Doesn't matter if they have a small nation population wise. They have an extremely talented gene pool - very good at a lot of sports - way more successful than many of the so called big nations .

@@losteden6390 Dude, I said what was missing in 2018. team and what was missing in 2022. team. What 1998. has to do with anything? Modric didn't play in that team. We all know Croats are gifted for football. It's not really a secret and it doesn't take much analysys to figure that out.

Modric is a bit overrated in my opinion. I'm not saying he's poor quality or anything like that but people always talk about him like he's some kind of God. I don't think he's that good or incredible like folks say he is. I've seen many much better midfielders, Rosicky, Arteta, Özil, Scholes, Gerrard, Lampard, Di Maria, Messi, Busquets, Zidane, Ballack, Alonso, Xavi and Iniesta just to name a bunch.
