I’d actually be more worried about how they’ll handle Peter going forward than Rocket. Rocket (and Groot) work very well in other character’s stories in the comics. Kinda like they did with Thor in the MCU. I can see Rocket and Groot showing up in a cosmic character’s stories, like Captain Marvel. He and Carol play well off each other in the comics, and he could help get her some good character development. Peter though feels like he could be more easily written poorly or characterized incorrectly. Especially if they throw him in with the Avengers. I would like seeing him in those films though if done well. And I like peoples’ ideas of a Disney+ series on Earth, maybe with Nebula.

I'm pretty sure when they said "Starlord" will be back they're just meaning "he's going to be in the upcoming avengers movies since those movies are usually direct threats to earth lol... plus.. I'm pretty sure Disney is starting to get worried about having too many of their new characters leading avengers movies.. so keeping some OG members of the movies is probably key at this point. - and in Thor love and thunders defence... ragnarok was written by completely different people... Taika & one other woman Jennifer wrote love and thunder andddd directed it.... so people saying Taika shouldn't direct or not be excited about that is poorly thought... he's a tremendous director.. he just is hit or miss with writing at times... jojo rabbit was a wonderful film he wrote and directed.. but again... having Taika direct teamed up with a proper writing team would be fine to do any movie of any franchise... no offence but its people like you who continue the taika negativity going (which I find odd because of how much of a fan I am of you to really point out things and be so well versed in cinema to not catch onto the whole love and thunder situation)

In the original Star Lord comics, he had a ship called "Ship," which was actually a sentient being. She could take the form of a spaceship or a woman. I think it would be interesting if, after making his peace with his grandfather, Quill is visited by this mysterious woman, sent by Mantis to retrieve him. Mantis has come into the acquaintance of a certain silver guy who is being chased by a malevolent force (this is also sort of based on a run of Marvel Comics). It should be mentioned that whether these hypothetical movies happen at all depends on who is willing to stay and do them. Zoe Saldana made it quite clear that she's done playing Gamora, and It's been reported many times that James Gunn is willing to bring along the cast and people from these movies to the DCU, although there's no reason actors couldn't take on both roles at that point it becomes a scheduling issue. There is always the option to recast the characters, however, that would bring on a whole lot of problems for these characters that have been so beloved for a soon-to-be decade. So going back to what you said, this is Disney, probably going to bite the bullet and keep this train of theirs going like the rest, for better and worse.

More Guardians of the Galaxy films with the group shown in the mid-credits scene would be fine with me. The most important thing would be to respect the way Rocket and Kraglin have been written up until now. Their characters have to be consistent. The others in the group are pretty new, so there's more freedom there to craft them. It is true also that Rocket's story feels pretty complete now, as is the case with all the Guardians. Gunn did an outstanding job with that. So seeing more of them may feel a bit superfluous. Personally, I can't get enough of Rocket and I'd love to see him again. Ideally, we wouldn't see him for a few years and another MCU hero on a cosmic adventure would just happen across him, making a nice crowd-pleasing surprise. We'll see what they do. Above all, as I already said, they should honor and respect the characterization Gunn has given these heroes from the start.

For example, Spider-Man had several "soft endings", such as where he has overcome his guilt over Uncle Ben (ASM 33 and 200 for example) and they have always kicked off new beginnings.

What about a Peter and Spider-Man movie? Having this space pirate trying to be a ground level hero and having Spider-Man getting a role reversal and babysit Starlord would be pretty funny. No idea if we’ll ACTUALLY get Spider-Man again but that could be a cool plot methinks

I'd love a Peter/Mantis story for them to actually be siblings in. One of my gripes with Vol 3 is that it really doesn't do anything with that major revelation beyond paying lip service. You know who really feels like Mantis' brother? Drax! Their whole dynamic is PITCH-PERFECT sibling stuff. So how does Mantis get to something on that level with Peter?

Taking the New Guardians and teaming them up with other cosmic characters like Nova and Silver Surfer for an Annihilation movie is probably the thing I want the most. Though, Star-Lord is a pretty big part of that story aswell and having him team up with the New Guardians immediately after this movie might make that ending feel a little cheap. In that case you could either just leave Peter out of it, or maybe have his story seperated from the other Guardians. Either way, I'd really like to see that story in the MCU. A full-on space war with some of the most powerful characters in the universe would be a sight to see.

The obvious next route I think people would expect is for Peter Quill to maintain his pursuits for Gamora but I think there was enough in VOL 3 to suggest he's perfectly capable of moving on and being able to carry that pain of loss, Peter has faced a lot of loss. So for me the next movie would need to find his new emotional theme. With 1-3 it was The Mother, The Father, The Self. To continue with any of the Guardians characters I think it needs a new emotional thread to follow. Vol 3 could be it for every character but if any of them are to continue on they need something that informs the plot to make the movies not feel empty. I think that's what's missing from so many MCU movies these days, consistent emotional themes and progression through those themes. James Gunn nailed it, his movies really feel like art.

You could almost show just the Guardians trilogy to someone without the rest of the MCU but the one sticking point is everything that happens in IW and EG. That's a tough one. Those movies ask so much that it's hard to catch up with details in order to watch Vol 3.

My thought with Peter Quill is that he's positioned to cameo or support in another MCU film. Sort of like Doctor Strange in Thor: Ragnarok. He comes in early when someone needs an expert on space. Mantis is also well-positioned to help out in something like another Captain Marvel movie. I see them more as supporting players than heading their own franchises.

I think they will pop up here and there (minus Drax and Gamora since Dave and Zoe said they are done, but maybe they will decide later on they'd like to come back for another big ending in a small role, who knows?), but the new Guardians may play a bigger role in the new Avengers films, either Kang Dynasty or Secret Wars!!! Pom (mantis) said she would love to continue as Mantis in the future in an interview, so I think she may pop up sometimes as her leaving was pretty open-ended. Star-lord is confirmed to come back per the final post-credit scene, so maybe he plays a bigger role by the next Avengers film!

I’d watch an Adam Warlock movie, he’s not with Rocket and Groot, instead he has stepped away for whatever reason for his own adventure. We seen him leave the new guardians at the beginning and come back at the end. Maybe he’s so strong he’s lost his mojo, nothing is a challenge, then he has an adventure and learns some lesson along the way that brings meaning back. Cliche in some ways, I know, but every story has already been told.

An interesting dynamic to a Starlord and Nebula adventure on earth would be that, because of The Blip, Nebula has spent more recent time on earth (as an Avenger) than Peter Quill has. Much of Quill's perception of earth would be that of an eight year old boy. It would be fun to watch Nebula explain modern earth culture to Quill and him being, probably, resistant to that.

So I was thinking, what if they do a Disney+ series about Chris Pratt's Starlord living with his grandfather on Earth and trying to reconnect and just doing slice-of-life stuff? @schwa6275

To answer your last question, as long as James Gunn isn't going to be involved, I definitely think the right thing to do would be to shelve the characters for the time being. But of course, like you said, that's not likely to happen when there's money to be made by Disney. I think the best compromise looks something like this: 1. Star Lord stays on earth, and is available to appear in further marvel team-up projects as needed 2. The remaining Guardians have their own separate movie or series that isn't called "Guardians of the Galaxy" but something separate enough to distinguish it as it's own new thing. I know a lot of people are wary about the possibility of more D+ series, but I think this group could actually benefit a lot from that format -- giving them enough time to establish Rocket as a leader, develop Adam as a character, explore the origins of Phyla etc -- and in the right hands, a Guardians tv series with a sort of sci-fi "monster of the week" format could be very interesting. But the big question is who's gonna take James Gunn's place at the head of this franchise, and I think that's the most important thing to figure out if Disney is going go forward with these characters. One thing I think people don't talk about enough is the fact that James Gunn *actually loved* these characters before being hired to write and direct a movie for him. They're like his babies, and the way he wrote them with so much love and respect ... you can't just hand his children off to new parents and expect them to care for them the same way. Finding someone with the same passion for these obscure weirdos that James had is gonna be a gargantuan task. All that aside, one potential prospect to continue the franchise is the writing duo of Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley. They've shown the ability to tackle large project in a similar tone to the Guardians movies with D&D, and already have experience working with Marvel, as both were credited for the screenplay of Spiderman: Homecoming. No guarantee that they'll be able to handle such complicated characters with even a measure of the nuance Gunn was able to achieve, but I think it's both a safe and reasonable pick. Anyway, great video! Been regularly watching your channel for a while ... I generally don't comment on yt videos, but this is a franchise I care about, and I'm happy one of my favorite movie reviewers enjoys these characters as much as I do.

And I could also see them doing a Star Lord miniseries on Disney+ with maybe Nebula costarring. Bautista & Saldana are both seemingly done with these characters which is cool. If Nebula & Mantis ever return, I’d want it to be in Quill’s projects, don’t just bring them back into the new guardians team. Then with the new guardians movies get a director with a distinct style and let him have a lot of control just like Gunn had, my pick would be Edgar Wright. Peter bring on earth could, and possibly should lead to joining up with the Avengers at some point, and the new Guardians team should show up in big events. Drax taking on a father type roll with all those kids will keep him busy enough that there is no reason for him to show up again, I can't see Nebula staying completely Knowhere bound though, and we could definitely see her on earth with Quill at some point.

so couple of thoughts on this. 1. In the Guardians Holiday special, there is an after credits scene where Rocket and Cosmo are decorating Groot like a Christmas tree until Groot puts his arms down and ruins it and Rocket says "now we gotta have another special". SECOND GENERATION GUARDIANS ONLY are in this after credits scene: I.E. people who are on the new team. This confirms to me that a second Guardians holiday special IS coming and it's going to feature the new team members, with maybe small cameos from older ones but that's it. 2. A series where Peter Quill gets back in touch with his roots on earth COULD work, but if they go that route I hope they keep it pretty grounded (no pun intended). Never have him leave earth. Make the central focus about him reconnecting with family he stayed apart from for years. Have him embrace the future. 3. I'm hopeful for the new Guardians team as long as Disney takes the right lesson from what made Gunn's films work so well. Let it be its own separate thing where the director is off the leash and has the legroom to do their own thing. The question is, who do you get to fill Gunn's shoes? It should be somebody who is a very skilled and unique director in their own right. Somebody who knows how to blend comedy, action and drama in a very compelling way. And maybe . . .somebody who deserves a second chance at properly showing their chops in the MCU. Edgar. Motherfucking. Wright. I think he'd be perfect for the second gen Guardians. he'd get so much of the appeal right while its still very much his own thing. In addition, while one Gunn brother is gone, the other still remains. I don't think Sean should be in a director position per say as I feel as though someone as inexperienced as him is asking for needless difficulty, but i DO think he should be a creative consultant as he probably has much more of a grasp on his brothers' style than the average person.

I respect that James Gunn didn't kill everyone off, not even the people that have said they don't want to return or whose contracts have run their course. I think it's definitely going to be a case by case scenario. The next big crossover events are most likely going to involve everyone both street-level and cosmic, so it would feel weird to not see members of the Guradians cast show up. Get the band back together? Maybe to help save the universe, but not just because they want to make more Guardians movies. But in a few years when the audience is really missing these characters, there can be a scene where everyone's convening to thwart this massive threat, having a moment where Rocket, Groot, Star-Lord, Mantis, and Nebula meet up and say, "Just like old times," and start blasting some music, and it would be a treat. As for other opportunities for characters to appear, I am not opposed so long as it makes sense. If the story goes cosmic, and someone needs assistance with something and they either know of someone who can help, or just by pure happenstance Mantis, or Rocket and Groot, or whoever is in the vicinity, and again, it makes sense for the story, then I have no problem either. James Gunn was kind enough to let these characters live on and not completely write out, even if that means we never see them again anyway. Happily Ever Afters from here on out for these characters, that's all I want, and if we happen to catch a glimpse of what that looks like every now and then, I would not be upset.

Adam Warlock was severely underused in Volume 3 (and also mischaracterized), so would be nice to see him getting more fleshed out. Phyla is another character who could be really interesting to see getting more spotlight. If done right it _could_ be entertaining. On the other hand, unless they get James Gunn to direct it, I can't see it working out; he said he won't direct more MCU films but is willing to help with projects involving those and other cosmic characters.

Keep them in the universe, but don’t make them a central point any longer.
