The Becker Companion is in the same league, being a small, thick knife. The Quickhatch Bushman and Trapper models are also short, thick knives.

Looks like a great knife, I've seen thicker, for the size, I'd give it a 👍's up. Just the handle concerns me, looks a bit smooth, not sure how it would handle if it was wet, guess you could put a lanyard on it, though I would go for the textured handles.
@martinhafner2201
@martinhafner2201 2 жыл бұрын
This knife looks like a premium built Gerber Strongarm or LMF2. Same thickness, similar length, very similar point profile, slightly higher sabre grind, better steel, better handle material and profile, and a little thinner at the edge (better grind). An upgraded build, but the the steel still has good toughness and isn't too hard to field sharpen. EDIT Addition : Oh, yeah, I missed that it dumps the upper guard, which has always been a little in the way on the Gerber builds.

The blade held up fine, but while batoning wood the handles came loose and you need 2 special (torx) wrenches which they will only provide you with if you buy replacement handles.
@gideonstactical
@gideonstactical Жыл бұрын
I am sorry they loosened up, but I have had tops knives, Esee knives, Kabar’s and more sometime not have the screws quite tight enough and have to tighten them myself. It’s a pain but not a major issue and if you are into knives two sets of matching torx and Allen wrenches would be a good investment for handle scale and pivot maintenance.
@ORIGINALDaveB
@ORIGINALDaveB Жыл бұрын
@@gideonstactical yeah I bought the Torx today and the screw wont budge. They may have to drill them out and put in new scres. They are locked together but spin together and handle blades are loose. I like the knife and want to keep it. I contacted Woox and I'm waiting to see if I can ship it back, maybe its covered under warranty. If not I'll pay.

I've had a couple woox knives and I find for the price they are definitely not worth the price they want. You would have thought OKC did the grind on the one woox I had. One side of the edge had a 34 degree grind while the other was around 5 to 8 degrees depending where you put the angle finder and when these knives are $270-$340 cad makes me question where they're actually manufactured

The Ontario Ranger Falcon is a good example of a short, stubby and thick knife that is amazing. The blade is almost 1/4th inch thick but only 3.95 inch long. The handle is fairly short as well. That little knife is a straight up mini tank, but slices like a boss.

Thanks for another interesting video Aaron. I hope you're all settling back into your house again. If i was gonna buy Italian I wouldn't look any further than lionsteel. Maybe fox as well, but only cause most of their knives are made in the lionsteel factory. Over the last 2 or 3 years lionsteel have replaced esee as my fav brand. The fit and finish, materials, ergos and price just add up to a great product and great value.

Wander Tactical, MKM, Fox, Viper…Italians know how to make absurd quality knives for really competitive prices. Especially considering you get an handmade leather sheath most of the time. And Italian handmade stuff it’s just not comparable to anyone.

I got mine with the original black sheath. The belt loop is definitely a problem, and it is stiff as a board as well. Definitely going to need to get a dangler although I would prefer to horizontal carry this knife but that is not an option with this sheath. I will probably have to make a custom kydex sheath. Also something that wasn't mentioned is the lanyard hole has VERY sharp edges on the inside. It's going to really work over your lanyard as it rubs with usage. Need to round that off some.

Good looking knife but I'm more partial to cheaper price range knives. If I break a $40 knife beating like it stole money from me I don't feel it like I would an over $200 knife. I get that quality can be expensive but I'd rather just look for those off brand gems and save some 💰. Nice video!

I don't really buy sleipner as related to d2 at all. It's more like a more moderately alloyed 3V - right between 1095 and 3V, but with the moly and vanadium flipped. A moderate carbon tool steel. The 7% chromium is typical of modern tool steels and doesn't affect stainlessness much. D2 is very high carbon (1.5%) and sometimes suffers from brittleness in the form of micro-chipping. The 12% chromium compounds the issue. If you've sharpened high-ish-carbon/high-chromium steels like 440C, the 17% Cr makes the sharpening kind of crunchy if the steel is hard. Plain carbon steels near 1% don't tend to do that. The 7% Cr mostly gets used for chromium carbides, which are a little harder than iron carbides, so you pick up a little extra hardening, but not so much that it compromises strength.

G'day Aaron, had a feeling I was gonna like it, and I do, a LOT !!! I am getting on extremely well the BK-18, with the slimmer handle, it's very nimble even in L hands. This one however is a mini beast in my estimation that can do plenty of different tasks well. Cant say I'm impressed with either sheath option though, definitely a Kydex candidate IMO. So, bottom line, with Kydex its gonna end up around 500 AUD .......tempted, but you can get a lotta knife for that kinda moolah. Cheers Duke.

The similarities with Lionsteel are very obvious. Also the prices are very close.. ..But i will give it to Lionsteel cause of the excellent sheaths and the micarta , that are included in the price. But after all a great tool that gives headaches at the assembly of the shopping list. And that Sleipner steel , after 2 years of hard use , i can make a serious statement that is better from my S30V blades. But always have in mind , that after use needs cleaning ,and a little bit of oil.

Can I have that when you're done? 😅 I really like that wood grip. That's super classy, and the shape overall looks really good. I'd probably add a small ring of Goon Tape for grip and strip that coating maybe - not so necessary in Arizona, it would be really cool to strip it and blue it or force a patina. Sheath is nice, but I would make a Kydex for it.
