We learned a lot about what kind of person TBates is in this episode. It is immoral and it harms people directly by artificially manipulating the bracket with purposefully throwing. The teams that YMC let win are moving through to top 8 without having to play more teams in the swiss making it so the placements/points/prize money is not reflecting the true results. This can have repercussions on players financially, professionally, and emotionally. It is unfair period.

It also isn't just about the teams that made top 8 with YMC throwing it's also White Rabbit Gaming who were effectively screwed out of possibly their first top 8 of the season because they had the unfortunate circumstances of running into YMC as opposed to anyone else in the 2-2 round

Thank you. The fact that no one mentioned how the opposing team are benefitting from essentially a free win to get through swiss and get manipulated results and points over potential rivals in the rankings. Also as you say this shows the morals/values of TBates which is worrying as I'm sure he's studying to be a lawyer but could be wrong. Edit - They talk about Bates being a lawyer a few minutes later in the video

I don't get why it is unfair? Limitless has the opportunity to beat YMC to go to the Major still. It would be unfair if throwing resulted in never having to play Limitless and that resulted in YMC going to the Major. At the point you would taking things out of the hands of Limitless but instead YMC put it right in the hands of Limitless. Every sport manipulates elements of the game to their advantage. In the NBA you can purposely give up a two pointer if you are up by three. You are not playing to your full potential to benefit yourself as you know the team will have to foul on the next possession. In the NFL players will avoid scoring a touchdown to further control the clock. Teams don't play to their full potential to benefit themselves given various scenarios all the time. The goal isn't to win every single game. The goal is to win the biggest accolade in your sport which is Worlds. To get to Worlds you have to qualify for it through other events. If I was on Limitless and lost to YMC when playing them early in the rounds that would be one me. I wouldn't be complaining at all.
@Tranzekno
@Tranzekno 5 ай бұрын
@@BeUnadulterated not only is it unfair to Limitless, it is unfair to all the other teams in the region - specially the ones having to play ymc when they wouldn't have to otherwise. Plus I don't watch the NBA, NFL, MLS, etc etc. I watch the RLCS and know the rules don't allow for throwing, any format that requires you to lose in order to win is a flawed format.

It wasn't as if the people in front of them was given to them randomly. It was based on their game differential. You can say luck, but they took too many teams to game 5 that they should be sweeping. If they had won more convincingly they wouldn't have been matched with GenG every time.

Y'all talked about all the benefits of boot camp, you talked about the drawbacks of only doing it at the last minute before one event, but you didn't come to what I think is easily the most logical conclusion: boot camp for at least a week at the _beginning_ of the season, just before it starts, and better yet spend an additional weekend together at the start of every split. You get to establish in-person chemistry (without org suits looking over your shoulders amid the pressure of competition, etc.) that the team can then build from in their online play. It also means you have some experience playing together away from your own room and PC, the players aren't only traveling (for the first time) right before the tournament, and in a lower-pressure situation you're more likely to establish a sense of fun and camaraderie around playing the game together, which of course is what you want to be able to tap into at qualifiers and LANs. (Anyone who's ever forged great friendships at a summer camp knows exactly how that can feel.) If I ran an org, I would consider paying for a team boot camp just before the start of the season to be possibly the best investment I could make in the success of the team - and to touch on an earlier subject in the video, that would likely also make it easier to assess whether a roster move might be needed during that transfer window, as you would have a more accurate idea of how the team chemistry might progress, and whether patience and confidence in a longer development arc is the better decision.

But that Daniel goal is without a doubt, undeniably HARDER to mechanically do than Pans psycho. It's fundamentally harder to perform Daniel's goal. It's the best mechanical RLCS goal we've seen in recent years, of all time? Not sure. But again, Zens backboard shot vs KC at worlds is also ahead of Pans psycho, which is mechanically easier to perform than Daniels.

SSG's game differential sells themselves, how are they gonna go to 5 games with Akron
@mawwie-w-
@mawwie-w- 5 ай бұрын
It's fair to say that they shouldn't be going to game 5 with Akron but it's still undoubtedly very unfortunate for them to run into the two best teams over and over again in this way. Their record against any team besides G2 or GenG is 9 wins, 1 loss. They are clearly beating their peers even if some series are going to game 5. Every good team still has bad series here or there for a multitude of reasons. Hypothetically, if every matchup was decided by which team is actually better and the third best team in the region ran into the first and second best teams in round one of quarters every regional, then they would have 0 chance of making it besides being the third best team. I am not necessarily saying that SSG are the third best team but you have to agree that this is an issue with the format. I would propose using the AFL format after the swiss stage instead of going into a single elim bracket as this format gives a fairer chance to every team, rewards teams more for performing well in swiss, and does a better job at finding out which teams are actually the best. This is of couese speculation but I think this format would have lead to SSG being third or fourth seed as I thought they looked better than the other teams fighting for those spots, and the fact they didn't get the chance to prove that because they kept running into G2 and GenG, is a problem. This format would coincidentally also solve the YMC issue in SSA as it would make it impossible for one team to snipe another team after swiss and knock them out immediately.

LG actually plays G2 closely every time and should have won against G2 in the grand finals if they didn't let up zero second goals in back to back games with the lead, they lost all momentum after that. They also beat G2 in a off-season tournament like a month B4 RLCS started. It's copium saying SSG should be there instead of LG when they have had multiple chances to beat Gen G and G2.

Tbates has some weird takes on the ban. 1. if you're "helping" a team by throwing another team will suffer. You're not just magically gonna help a team become the 9th team in the top 8. 2. The point of the third qualifier is to get more consistent results. Just because one region just so happened to make the grand finals irrelevant because of the previous two qualifier results, does make mean there's no point to it. 3. (this one is not just Tbates) The fact that YMC was allowed to played from Europe shouldn't have anything to do with the discussion. The exact same situation could theoretically occur, if there was an other SSA team that was the clear second, and tried to throw to get to LAN. It just so happened that it was an EU team. Those are two different discussions. Good to see we all still agree that if you break the rules, you should get banned, even if the rule is bad. This was a great discussion.

The Daniel goal was such a show of masterful control over the car and ball. The awkward preflip catch. The awkward positioned dribble. When I was watching live I thought he had lost control of the ball because of the position. He hadn't, and it was crazy. The Zen goal at worlds was crazy though. Definitely the only one comparable. Only a low rank knuckle head would try go for that and I could guarantee Daniel would have put it over him and Appjack wouldn’t have made it back. Daniel was improvising the whole time up until the shot, Daniel would have just let the ball drop and faked out chronic if he challenged high, Daniel would have put it over him if he challenged like FK and went for the ball, Daniel would have flipped it over him if he stayed in net like he did, Daniel could have done anything in that moment and if anyone disagrees then I’d ask them to rewatch that whole sequence and tell me if they expected Daniel to do any of that. I am probably in a minority. But maybe when you finish Swiss cheese you get to choose the place in bracket you get to choose what place you want to play. For example m80 and g2 get first picks so g2 will go top and m80 will go bottom to make sure they don’t get a match up with eachother. Then let’s say NRG gets 3rd they will play on m80s side of the bracket in the open space because they have a higher chance of beating m80 in that bracket. Then comes geng randomly they probably don’t want to play against g2 but can choose to play m80 or NRG or choose to go into the g2 side of the bracket. Then ssg places 5 now. Instead of being forced into geng they placed 5 and can choose to play any team that’s still in. They can choose NRG or m80 or the open spot depending on if geng plays NRG or m80. That does make it so teams can snipe each other but as discussed it’s hard to do that in NA as it’s risky. As it is so close but teams that choose first have more open spaces and the choice on who to play and the last teams get punished by most likely playing g2 or geng.

On the limitless YMC controversy. I think a good solution is that there should be an at large major spot. That way ymc wants to have the best showing possible in order to make the best case for picking them. Bc throwing is being incentivized by this current system , this may happen again. how is this going to be enforced if the players are better at hiding it. There was very little controversy in this case bc they were bad actors. But what happens if it’s a lot more questionable?
@itsbeaker6571

On the topic of people hiding throwing, the year ban is going to keep people from doing it. Having one spot, you have to constantly play your best and if there is an instance where you have to throw especially against teams you know you can smash, it's going to be too obvious. The rule is really effective in these smaller regions because it would be so hard to do it in NA or EU. When there are only two team regions, it's easy to watch those two teams dominate and then throw. Never should a professional want to resort to cheating to win.

To the thing about the double elimination not allowing for the possibility of sniping, hypothetically you could have a team set to go to major lose to the second best team, and if they make it to the finals through a lower bracket run, still clinch major even if they lose, the second team could still find a way to lose at some point to snipe them before the finals and clinch major for themselves. Love every single one of those players, but how can you even foster chemistry with a team like that without a prominent voice on that team? Idk just seems kind like a group of talent thrown together. Kind of like that apac team with virtuoso and Kami, just weird to me man.

It was a beautiful goal no doubt, but not better than Zen's pre-jump goal against KC or his backboard goal also against KC at Worlds. Tbates saying throwing is fine is wild. YMC spoiled the Swiss the series after they lost and put several teams (by round 5) in different positions than they should have been. That goes against the rulebook they agreed to at the beginning of the season. More importantly, it's only considering YMC and their results. Consider what they did to the Swiss, what about those teams who shouldn't be in the match ups their in? It's abborantly selfish and inconsiderate of literally anyone else. If that's the kind of person you are, win the 1st regional of the season and damn everyone else, you lack morals. Do better and treat people the way you want to be treated. It's pathetic that so many people think screwing over everyone for selfish gain is acceptable. Mind blowing a host agrees.
