@oggyreidmore10 ай бұрын
@@233kosta Letting them fail destroys the world economy. That would be fine if we had built in fail safes that kept people housed, fed, and with medical care during a crisis, but we don't. I'm not sure you remember the shut down during the pandemic a few years ago, but it showed we are clearly not prepared for a crisis. If banks are properly regulated they WON'T fail. We put in proper regulations after the great depression and had a 50 year span of no failures. Then the Reagan administration came in and gutted banking regulations and we've had a crash about every 10-15 years since. Unfortunately the US government has been captured by the same wall street banking lobbyists they are supposed to be regulating, and so they loosen the regulations little by little until the system crashes. Then public outcry forces the government to step in and re-regulate. Then the cycle starts again. Like I said, about every decade or so.
@233kosta10 ай бұрын
@@oggyreidmore Governments are acting like they own us. We're responsible. Been a while since a politician had a good reason to fear the electorate. Letting the whole system collapse would indeed have hurt a lot of people in the immediate present, but it would have also formed the basis of a lasting recovery that would have secured the next 50+ years. Ever wonder why it took this long to deregulate the banking sector? Think about all the people born around 1900-1910 who lived through the great depression, and actively paid attention throughout. Do you think they formed any significant voting block by the time cuckservative extraordinaire Reagan ran for office? We could have completed the recovery by now, in a much more robust way, but instead we're going to keep getting mini-crash after mini-crash, followed by a fake inflationary "recovery" and another mini-crash, for as long as we're willing to tolerate a less-than-mediocre future in exchange for the promise of slightly less discomfort today. In the long run this will harm many more.

I love how American liberals think they are being kind to soldiers by calling everything they did in Iraq and Afghanistan meaningless. (I am a liberal and a veteran, though I'm sure you'll all find a way to paint me as a right wing propagandist because I disagree with the liberal zeitgeist on this point.) Last time I checked, Iraq is a functional democracy, and Afghanistan has an entire generation of teens and young adults who grew up being educated in the Western democratic tradition. The Taliban are likely to be overthrown in 10-20 years unless they continue their rather surprising path away from hard-line Islamic fundamentalism. Liberals stopped calling soldiers baby killers and instead paint us as some kind of pathetic dolts. But you didn't care about the young Afghani girls making incredible strides in their education and personal growth until we pulled out of Afghanistan- which incidentally is *exactly* what liberals crowed for for 15+ years. My friends spent years of their lives along with their physical and mental health keeping those kids safe on their way to school. And yes, those kids (now young adults) have lost much of their freedom overnight, but at least they KNOW what they've lost. They are angry and resentful of the Taliban for taking away the freedoms that are every human's birthright. Unlike their parents, who were never willing to fight the Taliban no matter how much money/weapons/training/support we gave them. The Republican party used to have pretty sound foreign policy. John McCain and Mitt Romney both were extremely vocal about the threat of Putin, and Obama and liberals mocked them for it. Cold war relics, like the doofuses in the Pentagon. Well guess what, the old fools in the Pentagon like Mattis were the only ones who held the line against Trump, not that any of you will ever thank them for it. And the evil military industrial complex is the reason Ukranians have the weaponry they need to fight off Putin. Liberals want to think we have already progressed to some Star Trek utopia where there is no need for a military and problems can all be solved with words. But if the last few years have shown anything, it's that democracy is in the fight of its life from both internal and external threats. So maybe there's more going on in the soldier hole than the liberal zeitgeist permits you to acknowledge. Maybe soldiers are pretty stupid, but that doesn't mean our sacrifices were meaningless. Maybe they were meaningless to you, but that is a product of your American privilege.
