An Oxford college has been accused of shutting down free speech after it asked attendees to an Equality Conversation event to sign up to a code of conduct. The rules included refraining from using language or putting forward views intended to undermine the validity of trans and gender diverse identities. The college has now retracted this. So should universities be closing down free speech or should they be a safe space for different opinions?

Are you kidding? The reaction from trans activists drove her out of her job at Sussex university and I’d question the position of her union the UCU in this matter.

we have something called social contract - we society make laws such that we can live together peacefully...but we are not talking about national law here, we are talking about education protecting students, enforcing some kind of etiquette and not tolerating discrimination organizational laws in sync with national values and culture...universities have every right to cancel events based on protecting the students or the universities reputation...this is a non story folks.. Kathleen should have been cancelled - ideas such as gender fluid person being a contagion is exceptionally strong unnecessary offensive language, and giving her a format inspire young mind to take up her position...
