Bol Bol has a lot of the same gifts and skills as Wemby. He could have been great. But there's a problem -- some people say laziness, others say that he was never given a chance, maybe it's a combination of both. Wemby has been given the chance and he wants to be great. Btw... Ralph Sampson also had some limited guards skills back in the 80s. His body gave out too soon.

7’2*, Bol Bol is a good 2 inches shorter than Wemby who is exactly 7’3.5, so basically 7’4 BAREFOOT. So not only Bol Bol isn’t 7’4 or 7’4 or even 7’3 like Porzingis, but his handles aren’t as advanced and creative as Wemby handles, Wemby is literally more creative than Lebron or KD in term of handles and footwork, never seen KD or Bron pulling the shamgod and Wemby already did it twice and it wasn’t a basic shamgod, the first was a fake dribble hand off to a shamgod to a lay up vs Gobert and the 2nd a shamgod into a spin move and finger roll, he has the mind and IQ of a pg and the athleticism, agility, speed, coordination ect of a 6’9 wing like PG or Tatum that’s crazy he is a rookie and is already the most complete player in the league imo, Embiid is a close one with his improved playmaking, but Wemby the last 5 game averaging 29/15/7 and 6.5 Blocks 😂😂😂When this guy get great players around him and a great system built for him this statline will be his season stats 😂And he could do this in his sleep just like Jokic

@@SUBZRO Rudy is our defensive coordinator. He elevated the entire teams level of defense. KAT is a good defender BECAUSE of Rudy’s influence. I don’t expect a rookie to have that kid of influence. Plus blocks are not an accurate way to grade defense. Rudy’s reputation deters players from even trying him. His rim deterrence rate is far greater than Wemby’s and opponents shoot way lower percentages when Rudy is on the floor.

You also have to take a consideration that Wembanyama is doing it in a era that’s dominated by 3 point shooting.. there hasn’t been a player to average 3.6bpg since 2015-2016 season that’s 8 years.. and in the last 20 years only 4 players have accomplished that.. by the way none of those players where over 7 feet.. plus you include the spurs defensive rating with him on and off the floor.. there’s no way anyone can honestly say Rudy Gobert has a better impact on his teams defense and there’s no way anyone can say Gobert’s having a better individually defensive year.. imagine the spurs defense or T wolves defense with Conley, Edwards, macdaniels, and Victor

As a Spurs fan since 04' let me say this. Looking back at the previous defensive players of the year Marcus Camby, Dwight Howard, Ben Wallace, Marcus Smart, Tyson Chandler, Joakim Noah, Marc Gasol etc They didn't always lead the league in blocks and steals nor were their teams the best defensive team (but they were at least top 5-7) I think when it comes to Victor we have to look at the bigger picture, yes the team defense as a whole is one factor because great players make their teammates better. But also not just zooming in on the steals and blocks and saying this guy has more so he is better... Defense is also about rebounds how often do you let the other team get their missed shots and how often do opposing players score on you while you are marking them + how often do you foul and give them free throws. I would be happy if Wembanyama wins it but I understand if he doesn't. Best defensive player is more complicated than who gets the most steals and blocks

About the defence the on off stats for Wemby is sick, with him it is an elite defense in SA without him the worst. So you can definately make a point. But what i also like to mention Jokic is also great on the on/off stats for years, even historical one of the best in DBPM - i know must people saying he can not defend i am more a type of guy that defense is not only blocking and stealing. If you have good positioning, you avoid action the rebound drop to your hand. Many people who are considered good defenders, arent it in my opionion because they gamble a lot yes you block some shots but you also fall for a fake. You steal a ball, but a out of position 3 times because you fail to do so ;) jokic isnt DPOY but imho he is one of the better defenders, not a liability.

When you see Wemby just smother someone like Giannis you know. When you see the whole offense of a team want to pass the ball instead of shoot you know. Dude is just built different, and in his case it is not a metaphor, he is physically different. You could not design a better basketball player in a videogame. The only things that can stop Wemby's dominance of the NBA is Wemby's body and the team around him, everything else we have seen enough to know he is it. I think he's a multigenerational talent, although I do expect more Wemby like players to pop up in the next couple of decades as a result of the information age facilitating global recruitment of athletes, and this is true for all sports.

Media DPOY votes is bcoz, there has alaways been a very thin separation from dpoy candiates.. Has there been a center that leads in steals? Do Shaq remember a guy called Tacko Fall? He is 7 feet six inches tall. He has played very shortly with Celtics and Cavaliers. Did he lead the block statistics for a season? So height is one thing. And to block shots like mad is anothing thing. It is not a "should" thing.

Tacko was a rim protector when on the court. He just didn't play much. His "per 36 minutes" stat was 5.5 blocks (2020-21 season), which was actually higher than Victor's 4.2 per 36 minutes this season.

Shaq has always had a problem with other bigs that get as much hype as he used to so he comes up with bits to discredit them, calling Duncan "The Big Fundamental' which was really a shot at how boring TD was, hating on Dwight Howard at every given opportunity, refusing to put Embiid in the "Big Man Alliance", making up a story about how about David Robinson refused to give him an autograph when he was in high school, and now this bit where Shaq keeps trying to equate Wemby to Bol Bol.

It’s pretty obvious what’s going on here. Shaq is low-key upset Wemby has been breaking/matching records set by guys like himself already as a rookie. In other words, Wemby has the potential to be seen as greater than Shaq in record time (barring some freakish injury), and Shaq can’t deal with that. So he’s constantly discrediting him.

For DPOY I would pick Wemby over Gobert, but then again why not pick a guard who doesn't have any blocks, but who makes the other team's offense not function properly, by locking down the point guard or shooting guard? Is there any player resembling vintage Kawhi in the NBA today? If so, that would be my pick, as opposed to a shot blocker. Most NBA points are scored from outside the paint, and whoever can minimize that is the most important defender. I still think of Draymond as an elite though aging defender. Someone like that. Whereas Victor is the best help defender in the paint, but has often been pushed around by heavier centers when he tries to guard them. Example: he had four blocks on Jokic the other night, yet Jokic ended up 18/32 for 42 points. Is that a DPOY statement? Some would say yes because of the blocks, but I would say no, because Joker got the win.

Lol, this is the same vibe Shaq used to give Dwight for his dominance (especially on the defensive end). That means Wemby is on a good path, Shaq hating means you are a problem to his legacy....it is an insecure compliment.

Bol Bol is similar in terms of his skillset at his height, but has a much lower level of basketball instincts, work ethic, and athleticism. Wemby has the skills and the intangibles that take him to another level. Let's look at it this way: If both Bol and Wemby were 6'6, Wemby would still be in the NBA, but Bol likely would not be.
