@@curseoffrankblack6663 Wow! I never heard this quote from the Bible. I'm often surprised what good stuff is in the Bible. Why did in my years of Sunday School did they not tell us this? There is so much that I stumbled upon years later. They wasted my time and feelings with taunts about Original Sin and almost nothing which offered Hope and Direction.

10-13 Don’t you remember the rule we had when we lived with you? “If you don’t work, you don’t eat.” And now we’re getting reports that a bunch of lazy good-for-nothings are taking advantage of you. This must not be tolerated. We command them to get to work immediately-no excuses, no arguments-and earn their own keep. Friends, don’t slack off in doing your duty. - The Message

It’s like folks get angry with you because you made the wise decision to save and spend your money wisely. This small segment has me very emotional because that same person who said that to me is receiving help from us due to the pandemic. Their too good to deliver pizza or work in a Target store. You make to much money, for them to be homeless? It's not your job to look after your in laws. They need to get off their butts and find work, any work to make money. Then learn how to handle money. Give them no money, at all. Well said Mr. Ramsey.

Doesn't want to get a job because it could hurt his chance to reapply for unemployment benefits. Man! My answer to Dad-in-law is, if his unemployment benefit is that important, he's on his own for figuring how to pay rent. Might just be the thing to motivate him to find more income, knowing he can't rely on the young couple. Couple makes too much for parents to be homeless. What gall. Wonder how the parents would take that statement coming from the couple if the parents were the ones with the larger income.

If your plan for old age is for your children to take care of you, you are a scumbag. They did not ask to be born, so you deciding to have them and rear them does not obligate they be your care givers when you are older. I'm all for helping out, but I'm against parents not planning to be self sufficient in their old age and actually planning on kicking that responsibility to their kids. The best thing you can do for your children, better than presents or vacations, is do what you can to be sure they do not have the financial burden of caring for you. 3 kids with no debt and no obligation to aging parents, that's an inheritance your kids can build on. Instead too many have this cycle of caring for irresponsible parents and just set up their children for the same fate by not sacrificing the now for the future.

you help those that help you. if your in laws have loaned you money and helped you out or your husband then help them. if they have not, then don't feel obligated. I have family I will never give $. Luckily I’ve never been on unemployment but, if you get unemployment based on $100,000 salary, then take a $15,000 a year job at Target, do you LOSE all of your unemployment check? No wonder people on unemployment don’t want to work these low paying jobs. I think it’s more a financial decision rather than the jobs are beneath them.

20 years ago I married and 'left' my parents. We are financially independent My father and I are on good terms and we have a relationship. He even likes my wife. My mother...she likes that I am married. She is okay with my wife. It is still a love/hate relationship. She has never gotten over the fact that her son, her elder child, 'left' home. She still thinks she 'lost' her son. I keep in contact with her. However, she is passive aggressive. She does guilt trip my wife and I. We don't fall into that trap. I guess the major things she is still not at peace with are 1) I left home 2) I am an adult 3) I have my own life 4) I am financially stable and independent 5) My wife and I live a 2.5 hours plane ride away from her Mainly my mother guilt trips me for following my dreams and my career, which required my wife and I to move. My wife's career also brought her with me. We left Illinois for Arizona. My mother has traveled to Arizona, but she hates it.... namely because my younger sister guilt trips Mom in returning/staying in Illinois. My wife and I do travel to Illinois to meet them periodically.

Also, her mother-in-law is "partially disabled", so not completely disabled, meaning she could certainly do SOMETHING to support herself. There are lots of part time, side hustle, work from home jobs. And the father-in-law? Guess what? Working at Target will give you income to bridge the gap between potential homelessness and that better job he is currently interviewing for.

What if it's a mother-in-law in her 70s, getting Social Security, living with her 40 plus year old son who has a full-time job. Their home was a gift from her mother and totally paid off. They are asking us for money all the time because they know that we make a good income. At this point I'm sending $200 - $500 every time they ask and frankly I'm a bit tired of doing it. I think it's weakening them but I don't know how to stop it. I'm thinking about sending them The Total Money Makeover book. Because I really think that they need to budget their money more carefully.
