Two thumbs up for LOF customer service. Luke was very polite and helpful when I bought his MT82 output shaft kit.

Top guy Luke at LOF great customer service and quality parts. I have LOF front brakes fitted and a LOF powerspec clutch kit and MT82 output shaft ready to fit when my clutch fails or output shaft fails. I have the LOF clutch spring also it's on my to do list.

Good Morning 1. Clutch the first was changed after about 25000KM, only the clutch. Reason, broken springs. Replacement, reinforced clutch from LR without charge, warranty. This was changed after about 45000KM, plus all other necessary parts. Reason, worn out springs and/or bracket. Now reinforced clutch / set from another manufacturer. Wait and see what happens. The problem is not the coating of the clutch, but the springs and the bracket for the springs. Here the metal is too soft. Partially broken springs, only the small ones, material defect? 2. Spare parts from LR Ha ha, there are better solutions. My personal feeling about the prices of LR, a bad joke! That's still putting it politely. 3. Original shaft This part was also replaced last year, but still looked good after about 75000KM. As reported, I had first bought the part from the UK, but not installed. Reasons were communicated, I'm curious how your shaft works. An original shaft was installed, but with the appropriate grease. Have fun converting and spending money.

Thanks for sharing your clutch background, similar to what we experienced with all those clutches, springs seems to be the major weakness. Which land rover do you have?

I had the spigot bearing break recently so have changed the clutch to the LOF Power spec for our overland pop top 2.2 TDCI 110, like you we had great service from the team at LOF, However had to fit the Ashcroft MT82 output shaft as there were no LOF ones available - so far the clutch has been good but have had a small leak from the output shaft seal which is being sorted. Like many others - Our defender has been teaching me how to be a mechanic for many years!

I've gone through several clutch plates (AP and Valeo due to these being "OEM") on my 200TDi, in particular the springs either collapsing or breaking resulting in both failure modes having the springs fly out and jam up somewhere in the clutch preventing it's release, dangerous if trying to manouvre near other cars or people (can probably guess what happened there!). All lasted a few 1,000miles compared to an unknown and aged plate that eventually wore the friction material away. I've just bought an LOF clutch on the basis the spring layout looks different than AP and Valeo so can't be the same part rebranded, hoping to have good success with it.

There is a special tool for spigot/pilot bearing removal (REMOVER 303-078). And from my experience it is crucial to use special tools on Land Rovers whenever topix says to do it ;-) Good luck!

Car manufacturers only make a small proportion of the parts in a car themselves. Most spare parts you buy from the dealer of course are repackaged supplier-made parts. There is no doubt it is cheaper to use parts made by a genuine supplier to the automotive industry than the parts you get from the dealer. The problem is the aftermarket car parts business is awash with parts from suppliers claiming to be providing "OEM " standard parts who are not actual suppliers to the car manufacturers and are making parts of a lower standard, it's really hard to tell what is really of good quality unless you have detailed of who the best genuine suppliers to the automotive industry are and what parts they actually make themselves. On the other hand, you have to consider that the aftermarket parts business cherry-picks the high volume parts whereas we expect to be able to buy all possible parts from the car manufacturer/dealer and that costs a lot of money to package store and distribute all those lower volume parts all over the world, that is at least a partial justification for the higher prices from the dealer.

Vidéo intéressante comme toujours mais je me pose une question : 4 embrayages en 189000 km ? C'est énorme. L'embrayage est il un point faible du Def ?
@offtrackfamily
@offtrackfamily 2 жыл бұрын

Interested to ask more about the LOF clutch spring. Does a lighter clutch mean potentially mean less feedback when off roading on bouncy roads? Really thinking about it for the wife for general driving, but don't want to loose that feedback when bouncing over a difficult up hill area. Would this explanation capture your opinion or am I over thinking this assistance spring? We live in Malawi and have lots of areas with major potholes/gulleys and need to change speed a lot hence regular use of the clutch, but also don't want my foot balance jumping off the pedal with those bumps. Hence thinking of just going with the same setup as yourselves. Thoughts? Keep up the great videos... Really helpful.
@offtrackfamily
@offtrackfamily 2 жыл бұрын
We are very happy with our setup but it's difficult to give a good advice for a personal feeling whether a lighter clutch pedal would be better or not, also depending on which Defender you have. I would recommend you contact LOF, Luke can certainly help you on that question. Thanks for the message:)

Don't really agree with that. For example what happens if your electronic system fails and not in neutral position? You're stuck and can't even tow or push the car. We saw this happen in real life and wouldn't like this to happen to us, especially in the middle of nowhere.
