I always use a yoke when I fly. I also have a joystick and HOTAS. I use the joystick as a tiller as I configure its sensitivity for that function and the yoke is configured for flying.

If you have the funds and the room, buy both. Connect each device to a USB extender that has toggle switches to activate the device you want to use. Works great. I fly both yoke and joystick controlled aircraft and I use the appropriate controller for the aircraft I’m flying to maintain control realism. Rudder pedals are common to both types of aircraft and are usable regardless of whatever aircraft I’m flying.

What's the advantage of the USB toggle switch? If you have enough ports, you can simply keep both plugged in?

@@Ben-kw8bo If you have both devices plugged in, that is yoke & joystick at the same time, there’s a likely possibility that the two will conflict with one another regarding the axis controls from each device. This happens with my configuration so, having the ability to use a push button switch (toggle) that recognizes either device independently is important to avoid this conflict. I do not have enough USB ports on my computer anyway to leave all of my controllers plugged in at the same time, so I use a strip that plugs into one port on my computer and has 7 USB ports that I can plug devices into that toggle and 1 port that is always active. So I’ve got a joystick, yoke, a trim control & a CH Products thrust controller connected. Each of which can be toggled on or off. I’ve plugged my rudder pedals into the port that is always active, since a rudder is a control surface common to any aircraft I’m flying. Except in a helicopter it controls tail rotor. So at the press of a couple of buttons, I can switch between aircraft that require yolk control, my yoke has throttle, feather & mixture controls, or aircraft that require joystick and independent throttle control instantly. Works great. Makes switching between a Cessna 172 & any jet, helicopter or auto gyro a snap. In all my years of using flight simulators, nearly 40 years, this is by far my most complex yet flexible configuration I’ve ever assembled. Also, trim control is never toggled off, even though I can, as you need to trim all aircraft. Maybe not helicopters. Don’t know if trim control comes into play regarding helicopters.

I have the Honeycomb Yoke+Throttle and Virpil HOTAS, As much as I like the feel of the yoke and it's ability to be used with my left hand while faffing about clicking buttons in game with my mouse on my right hand instead of some cumbersome arm over arm movements and bad mouse movements, I keep finding myself drifting back to the HOTAS for most of the reasons stated in this video... Less space, I can actually sit at my desk and use the keyboard and mouse in cruise easy enough etc etc. Still, each to their own and I can understand why people love the yoke way of flying for immersion

Although I do own a yolk I've never been able to get comfortable with using it so I fly exclusively with a joystick. That's just my preference though, everyone's different.

I sold the warthog hotas to buy the honeycomb alpha and bravo, so far it's one of the worst decisions I've ever made since I can not land with the alpha no matter what I do I always get landing rate above -1000fpm. For now I've given up on the yoke but I hope to return to it at some point and get to learn how to fly with it properly

I my opinion, everyone should start out with a stick and buy a yoke later down the line if they want to. A stick allows you to fly all types of aircrafts aswell as helicopters, and can be used in a multitude of other games like space games etc. aswell.

The only reason I cant use a joystick is lack of a good solid way to make it sit down between your legs or off to your side. Sitting on my desk in front like the one in the video is extremely uncomfortable compared to a yoke that is level with the desk its attached to.

Im gonna get a Joystick for Flight sim. I recommend it, they arent that expensive (Not all of them), a yoke. It might feel better but if you think a joystick sounds good go ahead and get it. But i would start with a joystick then get a yoke.

I just bought a Hotas and I’m surprised how comfortable it is. I would imagine that a yoke would not be as comfortable, but I’m still saving up so I can have both and try them.

I have both and it depends on what aircraft I am flying for aero batik , fighters I use the stick most big plans I use a yoke It is hard to do aerobatiks with a yoke and I can switch them out in 5 minutes.

Like you said, you have used yours for 5 years and it has been in market for 11 years. Time for something new from Thrustmaster or maybe costumers should consider buying Winwing or Virpil. 😊

As a RW pilot, I use both, Cirrus and Cessna 172sp, as well as Diamond center sticks. Pilots can fly all 3 types with very little effort. Pilots need to be flexible and ambidextrus. Notice yokes are flown mainly with one hand anyways. Glass cockpits are the future and yokes are always in the way. I have Alpha yoke and Airbus Side stick and I always use Side stick. I use Air Manager touchscreens so yokes always in the way.

well one point you dont mention, if you plan on taking your private license almost all GA aircraft eg cessna 152 cessna 172 use a yoke, so its better practice

Recommend TM Captain's pack X. Has ambidextrous side stick and very hi res. Quad has positive stop thrust rev. I own Alpha and Bravo from honeycomb. Hangered both for various reasons. Notice author is flying right-handed in PIC seat? Hmmm

Since I have more than one computer. Use one only for flight simulator l don’t have remove my hardware. With Microsoft flight simulator I use both joystick and yoke, create a profile for different types aircraft remove the pitch and roll from device I don’t want controls the aircraft. This way I have more buttons. But you right when I started simmer a joystick is the way to go. But Microsoft flight simulator release it seems flight simulator hardware prices now 2 to 3 times cost.

Once I learned to fly left hand with the Airbus stick I joined it with the Honeycomb throttle quadrant. After 20 years of swimming I've found my preference.
