I need to say this: you're getting better and better. You're not one of those blokes who try to be funny or popular in order to get as many likes possible. In my opinion your car revues are what any car revue should be: pros and cons when owning/driving or consider buying one. It's a simple as that. Thanks my man, I'm waiting for the next post. Peace from your neighbour country, The Netherlands/Amsterdam

I have a great joke for you about the way you say the car's name: - A blond is trying to make some pocket money doing odd jobs and goes house to house looking for work. Soon she gets to one door which is opened by a man and she asks him if he has any odd jobs she can do. Impressed by her enterprising nature he says, 'Sure - I need my porch painted round the back - you'll find paint and brushes in the garage, go ahead' An hour later she is back at the fron t door, beaming. 'Did you get the job done?' he asks. 'Absolutely, she says, I painted it from top to bottom, and by the way, it's not a Porsche, it's a Ferrari'

I agree with your point about that feeling you get just sitting in a Porsche. My 2000 Boxster is obviously 20 years old now, but at that age and with almost 120k miles on the clock, the interior looks like new. It's the same with the driving experience; they just feel very solid, very planted, and (with older Porsches) have an analogue, tactile feel that communicates with you in a way few other cars do. It's a shame that people-at least purists-knock 996s as some kind of poor relation, but for us more normal adults, they represent great value. I'd just be worried about some knuckle-dragger keying it in a fit of inadequate bitter rage.

Prices have massively increased in the last 8 or 9 months. £10;000 cars are now very thin on the ground. The 996 is beginning to gather a popular status and prices are flying upwardly into mid 40s and late 50s for the Turbo model. Great review I am just a little in history again. My Dad talked me out of buying a £22000 low mileage Porsche Turbo 2 around 18 years ago 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️. Don’t always listen to your parents, do it most of the time but not all of the time.

Good piece. I happen to love the 996 twin turbo, particularly in manual and with the X50 factory performance upgrade. I do think they fit the term "Super car", more so than the Ferraris or Lamborghini models of that era. They have the power, performance and yet are trouble free daily drivers. Unlike the majority of their Italian competition

great review...I bought a black 996 turbo from a main dealer (Silverstone) in 2013...these cars were in recession then and I haggled over a genuine 1 owner 15k mile car registered in 2004.... it was mint ....truly unmarked as new...I paid 35k knowing it was a steal.... I kept it until 2015 and regrettably had to sell to fund a project....I advertised the car in Autotrader at 7am for 40k no offers and by 10.30 that morning it had gone into a collection never to be seen again....an amazing car and so blisteringly fast for the time....its hard to believe the type of performance generated by a 991 GT2 RS on a road when the turbo would still see many of the so called supercars off today and it would achieve that without breaking down....such a strong powerful car....glad you liked it...

Nice video.... and you’re right, 911s aren’t generally considered “super cars”, but that’s not really the appeal to owners of them. 911s are high performing sports cars but are unique amongst the so called super car arena in that they can be driven daily and are reliable and practical. I like the car you have however the tiptronic box on it dulls down the performance a fair bit. The intro of PDK changed that in the later years. Great cars to run though and provided you change the oil regularly and don’t skimp on servicing, they will last forever....... no Ferrari can do what a Porsche can in that regard.

Is it normal to feel less g-force when doing some hard acceleration..? I’ve test driven one that’s on sale & was a bit disappointed with the power because a turbocharged engine should be able to opt out some g-force sensation.. Not a huge power difference compared to the naturally aspirated 996 Carrera.. Probably I could feel only 20% to 30% more power on the 996 Turbo.. Is that a normal thing to be honest..?

The 911 Turbo has always been the benchmark by which all other supercars are measured. All Porsche are clinical and very precise, that's the appeal, it's either something you like or don't. Being clinical is an unfair criticism, the same thing can be said of McLaren and that's also a great car. The Porsche is so good, you just don't realise it. Enjoyed the video, keep them coming.

@@chrisogrady28 The main shell is identical - as are the majority of the mechanics. In reality the 997 is just a comprehensive face-lift of the 996 - with changes to the exterior panelwork and a much better quality interior a facia layout. I had a manual 996 turbo S cabrio 7years ago. A wonderful machine - but even at 6 or so years old at the time needed a fair amount of upkeep to keep it up to scratch. For all their fabled reputation for quality - there are some specific issues common to these turbos which bite you on the arse if your not prepared for them. One of them is to keep all the drain holes around the rear hood bin clear. If not water will penetrate deep in the the rear of the cabin and swamp out the ecus which are located beneath the rear seats.....

High Peak Autos the IMS (intermediate shaft) issue ran on into the early 997’s, but was eradicated by the 997.2 models. IMS bearings was not the only issue; rear main seals were almost a consumable on early 996’s and they also suffered from the cylinder liners cracking, but this shouldn’t be a problem now. GT3’s weren’t that rare, but GT2’s definitely were. I’ll get my coat.

yes go for it if it's in fine fettle, or won't cost a mint to bring up to saleable standard. I guess you need to make profit on it. Prefer one of a different colour. The one to go for is the 930 made between 1975 and 1989. Aquisition price may be high though

Nice car great revue as usual, my best mate treated himself to a new four wheel drive model Porsche two years ago couldn't believe how comfortable it was and sedate at low speed. Dont ask me what model it was red😂 over 400hrspers😬 that thing was bike quick. He sold it through lack of use and he valued his licence.

Concrats with 30K+ Subscribers ! I really like (any) Porscha because you cold drive it across Europe, and take a few laps against a Gallardo on the Nordschleife, en drive the same evening home in a comfortable and relexed way. Try that with a Gallardo... depriciation and service bill's wil sky rocketing compared with a porsche.

Hard to believe that In those 17 years since, you can now buy an everyday saloon or hatch that has almost the same power and as good if not better performance, even if not the top speed. I’d still own one in a heart beat though 😂 I’d probably rather have the 930 turbo though, a true “widow maker” 😂👍🏻
@MattCSLnut
@MattCSLnut 4 жыл бұрын
That’s progress for you 😉👍🏼 As much as I’d fancy a decent 996 Turbo, my stock 2018 MK7.5 GOLF R with 7 speed DSG comes to mind as a modern hot hatch contender. Currently about the same sort of money to buy as well (£35K ish) although the Golf R will depreciate like a lead balloon while the 996 T will keep on appreciating, eventually out of reach of mere mortals like myself 🤣

Auto Addict same, i have a 2016 RS3, although with only 750 built of that model I’m hoping eventually any depreciation will be go the other way as i will undoubtedly keep it as i have other cars. Someone paid 52k for it when it was new as it has all the options on it, bar ceramic brakes and carbon pack and no hill hold of all things 😂 which was only an £80 option Unfortunately i missed the boat several times when the 930 turbo was realistically own able, first time round i was too young second time round i didn’t have the spare money, now they are pretty unreachable price for a nice one A relative owns a low mileage 997 turbo and it’s monumentally fast, so just have to admire that for now 😂👍🏻

I enjoyed your review. Evo magazine categorised it a super car back in the day winning evo car of the year in 2000. Rated 5 stars when that meant something. Turn the psm off and see if to too clinical then. I know two people who tried that and both crashed! They can be a beast when pushed hard and compared to modern 911s require respect. These cars hark from a different era of sports/super car where people really used them not had them parked in a garage all year depreciating £20k a year. This was a super car that you could use really every day, 2 year service intervals, etc. There plenty with 100k miles plus out there going strong. I have had one for 7 years and it’s a keeper despite the big bills! 👍

@@blackline66 I have kept mine serviced at the main dealer as it had full porsche history and keen to keep it. OCD for the service book staying perfect. I use a specialist for other repairs and do quite a lot myself. Over 9 years/23k miles I suspect it’s averaged £1.5k a year. In 2019 it cost me £6.5k, clutch, starter motor, air con condensers, rear tyres, 2020 I had a £1500 discs and pads bill. It is an old car and they can be expensive to run but it’s not depreciating, a new mini loses more than £2k a year. I do two big road trips a year , at least on in Europe and they are great for long distance, cruise control, Bose stereo, nice seats. Cruises down the autostrada at high speeds all day long. Never had any problems, will even do 27-29mpg on motorways. Could easily daily one.

Had mine for 3 years , manual full aero kit , for the money they are pretty much unbeatable, but buy with full history, they are fairly cheap to buy, but things can go wrong, if they do they can be very expensive, so much better than a 993 having owned both ‘, forget it’s not air cooled, who cares it’s all about the drive 👍

In the future, please keep the camera from pointing into the sun. The few minutes of the video have lots of washout from sunlight. Also, nothing pretentious about properly pronouncing a word, much less a name. The 996 Turbo and Turbo-looking Carrera 4S, especially the 2nd Generation, are the best looking 996 IMO. And he Turbo twist wheels are stunning. The 996 Turbos still command a good bit of money today! Nice video!
