I plan to sell it to pay for a more elaborate tram kit, and if i can even get $5/hr out of my time building it i will be surprised. $600 for an already built, fully lit and airbrushed model? I am good with it, even with its flaws.

I like your honest review. I really like mine, it is a quality model for $600. I think the reason there are flaws with screw holes and seams is because they were working with a limited budget. TOMY makes model cars so this is outside of their comfort zone. I hope they take what they learned and continue to make high end Star Trek collectibles. There is a guy on youtube who had a great idea to cut a rod and use that to prop up the front of the ship instead of the secondary stand. I tried that and it seems to work. Looks a lot better anyways.

I'm in the mindset that this is a giant toy, but with loving care appointed to a lot of details, most notably the paint job (although on mine one of the weathering stripes on the saucer is askew to the rest.) Mine also has some production flaws like the seam on the top of the secondary hull is spread out a bit near the end so there's light bleed from the hanger bay. All in all, not deal breakers for me since it only cost $600! A frikkin' steal in my book! The only real issue that we can argue over though about the Tomy model are mods for the stand. And yes, MrTrek's solution for the turbolift bump works better logically than skewing the whole bridge so that it's at an angle to the path of flight. I have my Enterprise sitting on my table in my dining room which I use as a prep area for shipping packages. I have it facing me with the starboard side. From 4 feet I don't notice the screwhole covers. Still gorgeous!

I no longer want this. Maybe for a a hundred bucks or so but not what they go for. I'd be pretty dissapointed. I saw in person back in the day the original 11 foot filiming model of the Enterprise before they first hung it up at the Smithsonian so long ago. How? Long story but here is the very short version. The building was not yet open to the public but because of a really nice security guard he let my friend and I in. Seeing the Enterprise literally face to face was like meeting Elvis or the Queen. Anyway, Thanks again for the video!! Live Long and Prosper..

I owned a Master Replicas USS Enterprise (sold it several years ago at twice my original purchase price). While it was made completely of plastic. It was held up on the stand by a single "pole", which also fed power to run the lighting, and never had any potential tipping issues. The stand base was very heavy which also prevented tipping. The MR Enterprise also didn't have any of the IMO egregious seam issues. The rotating nacelles were far brighter and more TV accurate than those on the TOMY. Granted, original price on the Master Works was roughly $1,000 to $1,500 or so. So, it was offered at approximately twice the price that the TOMY is offered at. IMO that price was well worth it.
@paulhuk19728 ай бұрын
Not many people have mentioned the Bussard collector colour. You are right. The Tomy Bussards are nothing like the ones on the TV model which almost like a translucent peach colour. However, the Tomy model is trying to imitate the renovated Bussards on the Smithsonian Enterprise. If you compare the two Tomy does do a pretty good job.

i agree. And plastics don't necessarily bother me that much despite my somewhat over the top statement. i started with Lionel postwar trains which were largely plastic, but have transitioned to prewar toys which contain no plastic and now i have a non-plastic collection, so introducing a large plastic item into it doesnt sit well with me right now.

Thanks for this video! I was considering, but now think I'll take a pass. I've already built the 1:350 Polar Lights model (with the light kit), and was hoping for something that would be even better. After seeing your video, I can be sure that this ain't it! Maybe I'll save up for one of those $4000 jobs... Minor correction; the 11' filming model was originally completed on both sides. It was later, when they decided to retro-fit it for lights that they lost the details on the left/port (whatever) side to run the wires. They did, however, keep reverse decals to be applied so they could flip the film, should they even need to show that side of the ship... What I don[t get is, if they HAD to have those ugly screws, why wouldn't TOMY put them on the side already obscured by the stand? They leave you with a 'beauty' side you can't see, and an ugly side you can. That makes no sense whatsoever! Especially at the prices being asked for! I'll take a pass, with gratitude!
@alexprocyk88057 ай бұрын
thanks, i also got the size of the filming model wrong and learned about the "completed both sides originally till the light kit was installed " detail only a few weeks ago, which i should have known but didnt. this whole model appears to be a series of unfortunate events that were piling up on them. i still like it but if you have a Polar Lights model with light kit, you have the superior model.

Her cowl vents were very distinct, and that models has the same set up as she did.

I am given to understand that you don’t need to use the saucer support stand. The two posts and screw at the neck are more than enough to hold the saucer in place without damage. Using it does make the model less wobbly and more stable which is why the Tomy risk aversion dept recommend using it.

It was kind of a crowdfunder (like what HasLabs does) that was lightly promoted last year and took more than a year to produce and ship out. I only knew about it because I went to Fan Expo Chicago last year and walk by the little booth Tomy had. The guys who proposed this are big Star Trek fans and wanted to do this as a passion project. Unfortunately due to lack of publicity or marketing, it got less than the 5000 orders they had as a floor, but still went ahead with producing it. For that I thank them. They only produced as many as were ordered in the campaign with maybe a small margin extra. Any ones that are being sold by Tomy themselves are most likely from cancelled orders. And they will make no more (to someone's delight), they said they destroyed the molds after the production run.
@robertkees60485 ай бұрын
@@inkermoy They had to destroy the molds and promise never to make it again because they built it with other peoples money.
