Since 2015 I have owned 1 gm, 2 ram and 1 ford full size pickup.. my dads tacoma has 95,000mi and never seen a check engine light. The joke is on me.

A lot of the modern car features I can appreciate and understand why they changed but many changes like electric parking brake, electric lift gate, panoramic roof, big rims and low profile tires and many others. They keep trying to fix things that are not broken making the vehicle much more complicated and much much more expensive to maintain and repair!

I went out and bought a 2022 SR utility package (no rear seats) 4 cylinder precisely because I wanted to get a taco before they changed it. I wanted simplicity and reliability above all else. I got 2022 because at that time we weren’t sure if the 2023 was going to be 4th gen. Either way I’m sure the 2023 is more expensive given inflation so I’m happy I bought sooner than later. I switched from a 2000 impala so to me the 3rd gen is like a spaceship compared to the tech I was used to. If you care about reliability get a new 3rd gen while you still can. Only time will tell if the 4th gen is going to be good.

I just found your page. Thanks for your attention to detail & your review of all of the systems here. This is the most complete review that I've found so far. After logging almost 300,000 miles on my 2004 Tundra, LTD, TRD, Double Cab, 4.7 Liter V8 it has been a champ. All of the accessories still work, but it is suffering frame rot even though it was involved in the Tundra frame recall campaign a few years ago & was sand blasted & re-undercoated, it rusted from the inside-out. My mechanic won't put it on his lift anymore, so it's time to move it on. At 73, I'm over the "bells & whistles" phase of my life & just want economical, basic, durable, long lasting transportation, so I'm patiently awaiting the arrival of my 2023 Tacoma SR base level access cab, 6' bed, 3.7 liter, 4 cylinder, A/T truck. I chose the 4×4 drive because I live in the hilly Western Franklin County, Western Massachusetts at the base of the Birkshires. Your review has convinced me that I made the right choice. I look forward to many years of reliable driving. You have a new subscriber. Keep up the good work. Can you recommend a high quality hard tonneau cover for the bed?

I have a 2022 TRD Off Road and I have absolutely love it. Aside from some minor suspension differences it is almost identical to the Pro. I love the simplicity. It just simply works and works well. It is a truck where so many trucks today try so hard to be like a car. Total truck DNA. I plan to have this truck for a long time. Every vehicle has “common problems”. More technology typically means more things to go wrong and more cost to repair or replace. The Tacoma’s common issues are minor and very easy to deal with. Old school is best because it works. Great review. Thanks for reaffirming my decision. Love your videos. I watch every one.

I got my 23 pro in solar octane just like this one a couple months ago. Flew from Montana to DFW to get it. I notice it’s a pretty exclusive vehicle and it gets looks and comments especially from other Toyota drivers. I added a tonneau cover this past weekend. It’s the only mod I ever intend to do to it.😮

Love my 2021 (a Manual). I really appreciate this perspective (thanks) in this day of shark-tank like on-line ('please pay attention to me') commenting and submissions. I have the OR version with some of the key upgrades that bring the spec to the level of the Pro (exhaust and interior, with my own Bilstein 6112 and 5160 suspension with a 1" lift- keeping it close to daily driver-tude). Sometimes simpler is better if it is still a solid, quality build, and I have to say driving mine everywhere is really excellent. Lastly, I think worth noting is the relative ease of spec-ing them the way you may want. Thanks CCN!

I bought a 2021 Tacoma TRD Off Road, long bed before the market went crazy. I added a few things like the raised tacoma decals on the tailgate, Rok Blokz oversized mud flaps, Rough Country side steps and most importantly, the center storage box drop in tray. I also upgraded all the interior lights to LED as well ass the back up lights. I love this truck and how it looks so much. Edit: I had to come back and add more after I finished the video. I love how he was talking about how all this trucks feature and very old, or old school. Man, when I went from my 2010 VW jetta which only had heated seats and side mirrors and an am/fm cd player radio and THATS IT. So when I upgraded to my tacoma I thought the push button, radio, bsm, back up camera, etc were so advanced. I felt spoiled moving to that truck! 😅 Lastly, I'm glad he mentioned the AC issues with these trucks because I could have swore when I bought mine, that it felt a little weak right off the lot.

My view. Buy 2019 - 2022 now, or wait 3 - 4 years for a new one. It took the consumer and Toyota 3 years to sort out the current generation of Tacoma. Don't expect a shorter time frame to fix problems on a more complicated engine. Good review - am in the market for a 'new or recently used' truck now. This information helps.

As a young adult I always wanted a Toyota truck. After 3 Corollas and a 1st gen RAV4, and a 2006 Ford Ranger 4.0 liter V6 4x4:I bought a 2021 Tacoma Off Road 4x4 with the 2-inch Toyota lift kit. I think it has been my second favorite vehicle. My 2000 RAV4 was my favorite, but was a target for accidents since I was the victim of three of them and sadly the last one in 2012 finally totaled it out. Keep up the great Toyota coverage.

Got a deposit down on a '23 TRD Off Road, picking it up in a couple months after it's built. I loved the look of the 3rd gen, and I hesitate to buy the first model of a new gen, especially with it being a completely new engine platform + turbos. I'll stick to the old school reliability of the old V6 and the last "old school" Tacoma. Can't wait to pick it up!

A 2023 TRD Pro especially with the rarer 6spd manual transmission is now complete unobtanium brand new. There is over a year waiting list North America wide for this exclusive model in very low production numbers that is being discontinued next year. This particular year and trim will likely never lose its msrp value as it could be the most desirable Tacoma ever with all the new models being hybrids, turbos, EVs or auto only. Congrats to anybody who waited in line for over a year for one of the few unicorns.

Everything you mentioned about the Pro is right on, by the way it drives on road and all of its features. I got the 2023 because of what you said about the 4 runner engine being so reliable with all the updates and improvements. It’s that way with the 2GR FKS V6 in the Tacoma, all the little issues have been addressed and should be very reliable. To take a saying from you, owning a 2023 TRD Pro is great and life is good. Great Video by the way. The manual brake comes in handy when going offroad, descents or keep the truck from sliding back, or even on the boat ramp I use the manual break with 4 low when the ramp is steep or covered in slippery algae its like worse than ice. I agree about the knobs instead of levers for selecting 4 low or locking rear diff.. I think very very few still have it.. like the Brit made Deffender that has a manual levers for front and rear dif lockers. But they do not ship them to the states, and costs double the Taco TRD pro is the INEOS Grenadier. made like the old Defender.. old school.

Their trucks are probably one of the best in the automotive market! I've got a 1993 pick-up 4X4 that I bought with 6 miles on it from the dealer and still own it today. It turns 30 years old this year and is what you call "Old School" with crank windows, manual locking, nothing you push a button to accomplish a task. Great truck with one problem, and it has a hard time passing smog with it normally failing in the Nitrogen Oxides NO2 level for California. Any where else they are considered safe. Anyway you've a great channel here and love looking through them to see if you cover any issues that have arisen with my 3 Toyotas and one Lexus. I thank you you for this!
