Man, I don't have a lot of tolerance on repairing vehicles. $2k is my limit. I get it running to the nearest dealer and dump it. My buddy had an oil leak with his harley. My DIY solution for him was a $600 fix, but no he wanted to take to the shop, it was his "baby", well 3 months in the shop and $4k later he finally got the bike back. Mind you this bike wasn't worth $2500 on a good day. I buy/sell harleys all day. Some people never learn. Grandpa always said, never through good money onto bad money. I live by that golden rule. I'm looking at a 2013 esv w/127k on the clock, I think you've answered my concerns. Hope you made the right decision. Thanks for sharing.

After being in a similar position with a vehicle I bought a 2012 Toyota Sequoia with 127,000 miles 3 years ago. It now has 150,000 miles on it and so far no major issues, just fluid changes and a set of tires when I bought it. Not as plush as an Escalade but a reliable truck with good capacity. I picked it on the advice of my independent mechanic who said it will last 300,000 miles without major issues if I change the oil. I still like those Escalades, especially the ESV that is 2 feet longer than my Sequoia.

If you can do the oil pan gasket (steering rack is right there), links, struts, axles and find power steering leaks I would lean toward keeping vehicle. If motor has to be pulled replace every seal every block engine freeze plug back of motor one and done. Get ya a good cadillac manual and transmission jack and a good buddy - oil pan and rack sets on top of front drive train (double check info). Front bearings and front end parts they go sooner or later on daily drivers. Smart thinking about the body style. Bigger rims wear out suspension quicker cause of a more firm ride.
@cuivincent9744
@cuivincent9744 Жыл бұрын
The car you owned is great good. Since you already put thousands upon it for powertrain, the rest of issue are only for the suspension and leaks. Calm down and fix it 1 by 1. BTW, the shock maybe less 500 bucks, if try to find parts from Tahoe or Suburban or Yukon. There are still lots choise 2007-2014.

What did you decide? Did you fix all these things? A hassle for sure but way less than a newer vehicle and since it's built on a truck frame rust is really the only thing that brings them down if you want to keep fixing them. It could be worth it.

But for you, it all boils down to, how much you love the vehicle! And if you plan on keeping it long term after you spend that money on it. So I would say it’s worth it because it is a beautiful vehicle, while others would say it is not an individual choice for you to make I guess.

Should’ve changed the rear main seal when you had your other tranny put on my guy. My wife literally just got a 07 Escalade and we are having same issues as you. The brake lines needs fix as well on hers. Smh but our plan is fix it slowly. One atta time. My rear main seal only gonna cost me 900$ in my town. But had to fixed the oil pan which was 700$, tranny cooling lines 600$. Now my main thing to fix next is the rear main seal.

Man déjà vu I just finished putting the transmission in my 2008 Escalade right after I noticed oil in the driveway, so I did valve cover gasket, oil, pressure sensor, intake, gasket pulled transmission off engine agin for rear main seal install front main seal and currently doing rear suspension and struts one thing at a time all in all the truck has been great. Bought it in 2010 and drove it 80,000 miles trouble free i decided to not buy another newer vehicle and fix this one it is currently running great. Glad I stuck it out. Made a list and every other weekend. Try to scratch one item off. Just finish this way bar. Bushings and links easy I also painted the front and back bumpers because they were pretty faded out. Had the truck paint corrected in what sanded and buffed looks amazing.

Yikes.... I own a 2005 and it was a one owner, and the only 2 things i have in common with you is the rear main seal is value cover gaskets. Otherwise i have not had any issues with any suspension, or anything else you mentioned. Its got 179k miles too. Its been taken good care of and never been up north. One thing i noticed about these trucks like many is where they originate can determine the issues of the parts and how soon they fuck up. Like i never had the alternator changed for instance. You said yours was, it just comes down to who owns it before you and if its gotten a lot of moisture, salt, and things like that exposed to the under carriage. I would suggest looking into Amsoil Heavy-Duty Metal Protector to protect and coat the under body of your truck if you do live up north. My truck doesn't need it but i plan to put it on my truck just because of what good ive seen from it on this guys channel over the years of watching. This is the most recent video of him applying it. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pMiAm7qgzbDPiGw.html . Shows you the special connector hose to get into holes throughout the frame and stuff that you cant easily spray. This will help keep lines and other shit down there from rusting. If you keep or plan to get another id definitely recommend undercoating with this for preventative maintenance.

When i was young i had an issue with my 2000 F-150, the upper intake manifold broke at the coolant crossover. $2,700.00 to have fixed. I didn't know anything about car repair but, i couldn't afford that. KZfaq helped me and i did it myself for $150.00. Since then I've done all my own car repairs. I've saved well over $10,000. If i can do it, anyone can. Save money. Btw, that 2000 F-150 is still my daily driver.

just bought an 08 ESV last June and due to previous owners not taking care of it I have had to replace all 4 ball joints, inner and outer tie rods, weld the ear back on my sway bar, P/S pump with the cooler and hoses, water pump, belt tensioner, poor wiring on the taillights and horn and both CV axles. I also had to replace my entire engine harness and fuse box because 2 wires shorted somewhere and burned a good section of the harness annnnnd that's not all my rear air shocks are blown, there is a thunk in the front when you accelerate or decelerate along with a moan/whine under load (so pretty sure I need a front diff) the steering is now skipping (rack or intermediate shaft?) and I'm pretty sure it's developing either a rod knock or piston slap all in less than a year of ownership......I like what it could be but it's just a really bad example but I'm so upsidedown now that I just don't know what to do

its not just cadilllac, its poor maintenance. people want nice looking vehicles with a/c and be damn if the brakes are grinding or the tires are bald with cords showing. when you do your own maintenance on your vehicle, you notice things that need attention. i had a bad experience with a shop 25 ish yrs ago and never had one of our vehicles in a shop since. ive done all the work to our vehicles on ramps and jack stands. a lift would be awesome i havent come across a repair where i NEEDED one. with the money i saved doing all the work myself ive built up a tool collection that any master mechanic would be proud to have. thru the yrs ive helped other people with their car repairs who couldnt afford the outrageous shop/stealership prices for labor. it pays to do your own vehicle repairs. its not for everyone though. be sure you know what youre doing and you have the right tools because if you mess something up bad, mechanics will charge more to fix your mess. good tools and knowledge are key but enjoying the job is very important. some people will do their own work to a certain level and some will do everything because its their past time. in this day and age, as long as the frame, motor and trans is good, fix the minor stuff. keep it going till the wheels fall off. plus its paid off.

I know this video is old but it’s a real shame how badly your getting bent in terms of prices on repairs. The rear main seal does sound about right but if you were to replace the oil pan gasket at the same time I would personally charge no more then $100 in labor for it as it’s ssooo much easier to drop the pan with the transmission out of the way. The valve cover gaskets your absolutely getting screwed as it’s like a 30 min job max if your being lazy. I hate that just because it’s a caddy mechanics want to overcharge even tho it’s the same as working on a 4x4 Tahoe

Get rid of it if it was a Tahoe or a Expedition I would invest money in it my dad has a Cadillac Escalade has the same problem you do my Expedition has 245.000 miles and runs better than my dad Cadillac and is less expensive to fix

Dude, what the heck! you should have kept up with the repairs. All of this stuff just didn't all happen all at once. Most of these repairs you can do yourself. Sooo Cowboy up and fix the dam thing. Cherry this baby up. It will take some time but once its done you be happy you did it yourself. you said it sat for a while. During that time you could have been working on it. start out with the cheap repairs, and work your way up. By the way all the parts on these car are cheap. Once your done you know what has been done on it. Good Luck!

You better off fixing the truck. Spending 12k is cheaper than buying a new used vehicle.

Idk what shop you're taking it to but they're fisting you no lube. 400+ for valve covers proves that. Rear main and oil pan together should he around 800 in labor. 2700 for a transmission is ridiculous. Idk if you went to a high estimate shop to make your video seem relevant but you'd be a fool to pay those prices. More than likely dealer prices.
