Not sure whst this says about us, but our previous car was a Juke, although the 190ps DigT. We now have the newer 1.6 diesel engine Mokka 136ps. It feels slmost as quick as the Juke, gets 60mpg on a run, has the upgraded alloys which makes a big difference to looks. All things considered, its pretty decent.

Subject to all the negative comments my wife owns a Mokka 1.6 SE and I drive a BMW 530 petrol. To be fair it’s fully loaded and mint condition only covering 15K miles. Yeah they’re dull and quite practical in the other hand. I cannot shift anything in my boot and the Mokka is great for dump runs and picking up building materials and...... now the practical approach, taking and picking me up from the pub!

I drove a Mokka around in the south of Spain, it was an airport rental. It was pretty good, nothing stuck out to me as bad. I drove it like I stole it in the mountains, it handled okay, and it didn't break. But it's very forgettable.

Love all your great car reviews. Regarding special snow tyres (tires in USA), my experience in Colorado winters was that a set of 4 new Blizzak’s (or similar) do noticeably slightly better on ice because of their softer rubber compound. Worked great on my old rear wheel drive 1992 Lexus LS400 - went up the mountains to the ski resorts just fine.

Believe it or not, this is one of the two choices (alongside the Skoda Yeti) that Tilhill Forestry gives to their Forest Managers for bashing up and down the motorway and on forest roads. Apparently, they're not that bad. Scottish Woodland Forest Managers get 2 wheel Drive Nissan Jukes for the same purposes. I needed something similar for my work, so I went with the Suzuki SX4 Hatchback with the 2.0L diesel engine, which is an excellent workhorse if you don't mind having your eardrums blown out due to Suzuki's inability to soundproof. That little car has done more off-roading than most Landrovers in the UK will ever hope to!

Good video. The 1.7 diesel was replaced by a 1.6 which is fantastic. Whisper quiet, all alloy, chain cam and comes in two power ratings. I've got the 134 bhp, 231 lbs/ft version (in an Astra Estate, goes like the proverbial off a shovel) my girlfriend has got the same engine in the Mokka. I really think this is the best 1.6 diesel in the world right now. (Renault Nissan has a comparative but it's a cast iron block and alloy head which has not been a brilliant recipe in the past). The girlfriend knows nothing about cars or engines, but being 5ft 3 or 4 she likes the Mokka's raised seating position and view of the road. She also likes the chunkyness of the vehicle ( in case she crashes it presumably). It's black and I think it looks rather cool albeit I prefer the aerodynamics and handling of my Astra. Because you're young you don't realise that not everyone wants to buy a huge 4X4 which commensurate running costs! That's why the smaller SUVs have had such a good run (Mokkas, Yettis, Dusters, etc). BTW, I didn't know that PSA had cancelled the Mokka and I'm very sorry to hear it. I just hope they don't cancel the Vauxhall/Opel diesel engines because they're better than their own!

I had a 2013 1.7 CDTi 4x4 Mokka, 6 speed manual, had it for 7 years , mine came in to it’s own on country roads, no leaning on bends, 4x4 system was active all the time not part time, you could tell the way it cornered on tight bends , miss that on 2WD.... conti tyres got me anywhere in any snow. That Isuzu engine would give me 50+ mpg around town ( to the astonishment of a Prius owner friend) and on UK holidays around Norfolk I got 60+ mpg this is from 4wd , it was fabulous, mine was the SE that had an Ai system that looked after headlamp aim at night 😊

Got same car, same age. I've read about 4x4 system they use and it's definitely 2wd until front starts slipping. Engine is efficient but soo noisy... I wouldn't mind but it push gas and it sounds like I'm hurting it ;) And I don't use auto high beam because it's very slow to react and not sensitive enough to turn high beam off to stop blinding other drivers. And I think the ride is quite hard and car is generally loud inside.
@patrickh7368
@patrickh7368 2 жыл бұрын
@@Mietas2 I couldn’t use the auto high beam no, but the system changed the light pattern to suit road speed and steering wheel on corners. But mine wasn’t part time 4WD only setting off with auto hold it would then set off in 2WD , I felt the way it cornered it was so stable as though it pulled and pushed was great , a friend had a Zafira with the same engine only 2WD and only got 40+ mpg 😊

Great vid. Although you are a little misinformed about the mobility side of things. The cars have to be returned in perfect condition with dealership servicing all but general wear and tear over the 3 year contract .You have to pay for all the repairs needed if it is not in tip top condition. also you are only allowed a set mileage as well . I suggest that a mobility car is one of the better options for a secondhand buyer.

That's weird .... I was in the UK a few years ago and hired a Mokka, only for few days, so I can't give a longer-term appraisal....But I did not find it "uncomfortable" at all.....not the best and certainly not in the same league as the Volvo XC90 (which I have here in Chile with the V8 engine)....as Matt says: That's Chalk & Cheese.... You feel in the Volvo you just want to drive to the end of planet earth..... no fatigue involved at all....even in heavy traffic. (My only headache is the fuel bill!)

@@HighPeakAutos, yes, I owned two of them in succession, a 2011 pre-facelift 1.6 petrol and a 2014 post-facelift 1.7 diesel, both in LS trim. Worth absolutely nothing these days at all! I would rather have one of those than a Mokka personally, even if a lot of the fundamental engineering (engine, transmission) is exactly the same in both.

In the United States they are marketed as the Buick Encore. They are Buicks best selling model You see them literally everywhere . Owners love them and consumer surveys praise their reliability/durability. Buick is a semi-premium brand and the Encore is one of the most expensive in it's segment.

When I was on holiday in the UK in 2017 I was supposed to rent a Passat from Europcar at Euston but when we got there the outlet was closed due to a gas leak. We had to walk back to St. Pancras where the Eastern Europeans running the Europcar there fobbed me into a 1.6 petrol Mokka. We drove it to Edinburgh that day and let’s say I was very happy to get out of it the next morning and into a Nissan X-Trail diesel. Gives you an idea what the Mokka was like. Definitely agree about the overall lack of character.

I’ve recently bought a Mokka 1.7CDTi tech line as a first car (2014 reg) and i’m enjoying driving it. I’ve had only one problem with it (easily stalling) but i’m still getting used to the handling of the car itself. It’s cheap on tax and a £50 fuel tank fill up from empty? Yes please when it goes pretty well on the MPG (around 45 average on normal roads, 55MPG on motorway/dual carriageway driving). I find it pretty quiet, quieter than my partner’s diesel Hyundai iX20 and all connectivity works well enough for what I need it for. It’s not for everyone, but like I said, it’s my first car i’ve owned but the second I have driven daily and it’s pretty decent. I’m not sure i’ll be sticking with the mokka in the future but it does it’s job well :) it also fit’s my partner and friends who all average about 6ft in both the front and the back. Overall its okay :) again, it all depends what you want out of a car. As for the plastic around the centre console, mine is flaking as i’ve noticed. I only bought it a week ago but it was like this when I got it. Not a problem for me though

@@libbyc2856 I love my Mokka. It handles like a dream! Although i’ve had a few hiccups with it, which I think are just a few blips with my particular car, I don’t have any issues with it per se. Bluetooth works well as does the hands free system and fuel economy (diesel) is bloody brilliant. I commute about two miles each way to work and back six days a week and haven’t filled up in five weeks :P. (Compare this to when I had to commute 26 miles a day for training. This was every two weeks to fill up) It’s still costing me around £50 to fill up so that’s good. You’re a little higher up in the car too, so simply pivot and slide out and climb in (i’m 5’4”). Definitely DEFINITELY have a trial/test drive before you buy if you can. It does have a ‘plastic’ feel to it but it is a safe and comfy car. If it’s your first, why go for something showy and expensive??? ;) When you can have a bit cheaper and cheerful and easy to maintain? Hope this helps but I can give you more info if you need it :) I bought this for practical reasons and not for looks. I find it comfy but i’m not fussy. (I’m not saying you are :) ) it’s quiet for me and easy to navigate and understand. Vauxhall do go for simplicity as well. Good luck with choosing your first car!!

@@planes1997 Thanks so much for the reply! I have sat in a different Mokka and I know what you mean by the plasticky feel but a friend of mine had two Corsas so it feels basically the same. No I agree I’m the same as you- not fussy and want a good practical car! Great to hear about how cheap it is to fill up too. I think I will go for it- I’ll be seeing it next week so fingers crossed it’ll be mine soon! There’s a lot of negative comments on here but I saw yours and wanted to reply as I’m sure that 90% of the negative commenters have never even sat in one! I once had one as a loaner when my spectacularly unreliable C-Max was in dock....again. I just recall it was bouncy and the dash was just a button fest. After that I had 3 years in a Juke which TBH was much better but only because everything was touch screen which just felt so much more modern. Is that ancient diesel a development of the 1.7 turbo diesel I had in my mid 90's Astra company car?

For me, the point about having a car such as the Mokka is that it has high ground clearance. If there's a flooded road, a car with high ground clearance is likely to get through where a 'normal' car might not. The same is true of the Yeti, or the Audi Q3. With climate change bringing more regular flooding, and with few if any ditches around now to prevent the roads flooding, more motorists might have to consider changing to an SUV.

Having had a later model (2016/17) MY Mokka X Elite 1.6 CDTi Auto ( Shock Horror) in the family I have had plenty of experience of one. Sadly that model did not have either a CD or the 240 volt socket. It never missed a beat and just needed regular servicing. Also it fared quite well, with good winter tyres fitted, in moderate snow. This was a Motability car and was one the many that are very well looked after, regularly serviced and have quite low mileages. Sorry to dispel the myth of abused vehicles as they are in the minority as a rule. They are well worth buying and do not generally stay around for long, in fact some get virtually pre-sold when the vehicle is being returned to the selling dealer.

@@HighPeakAutos To a point you are correct. However, having dealt with Motability since 1980 both as a Main Dealer and a customer I can honestly say that the good majority far outweigh the bad especially as Motability pay a good condition bonus of £600.00 at lease termination. Perhaps all the good ones are snapped up by the Motability Dealers thus leaving the rest for the general trade.
