I've owned a s9 and the G7 for about 6 months. I would recommend the G7 the battery lasted longer speakers were louder with bass (boom box) and brighter.

It's because the g series uses LCD and the v series since the v30 use oled screens it's still more expensive then the g7 although it's running snapdragon 835

I'm loving the G7. Girlfriend has the S9 and there are just as many things about each phone that are nice. In fact I think overall I prefer mine. Both work great.

I choose the LG G7. I am so sick of the curved screen on the Samsung products. Screen protectors are horrible to keep on the curved screen. I am not a professional photographer so the very slight difference in cameras is not anything I am worried about. I love my G7 and I am done with Samsung and their curved screens. Apps and functions of the phone are very similar. Oh and the notch? You have the option to choose not to have the notch buy picking the 2nd screen.

Agree David. Curved screen can be problematic. Also minimalist cases do not protect curved screen as well if phone is dropped. Flat screen has better chance of surviving since lip of case is above the screen surface. Best not to drop however!

I love my G7. I've used both extensively ( I work for Verizon) the G7 feels faster and the super bright screen its fantastic for sunny days

Timbo, Have you messed with the Moto Z 3 much? I like my Moto Z Play, but the battery failed and I have to replace it before the battery decides to start expanding more than it probably already has. The LG is a more premium device that's waterproof (which is nice since I live where there are a lot of storms) and I can get an actual case for it as opposed to just getting a bumper. On the flip side I like my current Moto Z, the battery would last longer with the power pack, and the Z3 is quite a bit cheaper than the LG. Any thoughts?

Nick, you failed to note that the G7 also has component color controls. Also, keep in mind, that any phone that can produce HDR, Dolby Vision or 4K videos has no bearing on Oled or LCD. An Oled screen is just over-processed colors and blacks. An LCD screen produces less over-processed colors.

Yes. The Lg feels natural Samsung looks almost 3d super over saturated. It looks very pretty but its too bright too many colours. Ita just a gimmick to make took prettier. Same with the curved screen. Same with the glass body.

Nice Comparison sir ! You always do Justice ! IMO Both device are gr8 But I'll go with G7 because of dual camera, Wide Angle , HiFi DAC and boom speaker. Also LG phones are smooth in compare with Samsung. In India G7 is more cheaper than s9. S9 128 gb 900$ and G7 128gb is 570$ !! Huge price difference!

You should spend more time at youtube and search camera comparision with all flagship with G7. Its not the best but not also worst. I admit the Auto Mode is not up to the mark but If you use Manual mode you will find the best cam in G7 believe me.

The S9 has a much better camera in terms of low light, overall sharpness and automatic mode. The G7 has like the worst camera in a high end phone in 2018. Even the One Plus 6 has a better camera.

Having had both...G7 is a much better phone overall. The ONLY reason I kept the S9 is because it does slightly better with making as professional as possible video projects. If you don't have to do that, you'll love the G7. It's an awesome phone. Better than the S9.

Great video nick, looking at the price difference here in India, I would rather go for the G7 which was available for around $350 during Flipkart sales. I am not a great fan of the curved edges on the S9.

I'm typing this with my iPhone 5 (not 5c, not 5s...just 5), which is just shy of 6 years old. I'm between the S9+, S9, and the G7. At my local Verizon store, they're priced at $930, $800, and $610 (with a promo), respectively. I'm assuming most would say the G7 is the best option considering how comparable it is to the S9 in performance . Thoughts?

The G7 is awesome. I have one and it's awesome for gaming with its quad DAC, DTS:X, Boombox speakers and Quad HD+ (which make it great for media too). Also never having to worry about burn-in is nice. Plus, the software is awesome, because you are able to set a specific frame rate and resolution for each game. I've never had my battery run out on a normal school day, even when I play video games both at school and at home. Also, in many markets a 256 GB G7 is available that also has 6GB of RAM.

I am looking to upgrade. I have a Samsung S7edge whose screen just died, so I reverted back to an older LG V10 with an IPS display. Battery life is nowhere near as good as the S7, and verybody says there are no burn in issies with LCDs but there it is big as day! AMOLED is the one with the burn in reputation but my S7 never had that. Are those issues resolved in these phones?

Do you know if the G7 (4gb model) runs a 32 or 64 bit version of android? I know moto is known to force 32 bit on everything so I was wondering if LG did the same thing. The version can be found in a utility app like AIDA64.

It's *64 bit.* If it were 32 bit, it will NOT be able to play Fortnite, since that requires 64 bit Android.

zz zz it is expensive but I've heard its one of the only temp glass screen protectors to actually stick on and not hinder the touch sensitivity. Even includes a uv light to adhere better. Pretty high tech!

I'm no troll and no hater but don't OLED displays get screen-burn and the colours start to fade too? I love Samsung's reputation but I've never owned one of their devices. I need my phone to last at least 3 years. Edit: I currently own an LG G3 and need a new phone. I've saved my pennies and am deciding between the G7 Note 9 or possibly V40. I believe a phone should last a few years before playing up.

I take very few pictures but I do sometimes take a lot of car pictures. My G5 and the wide angle lens have been great and I think the AI camera in the G7 could make it even better. I always compare Samsung to LG for phones and I mostly take LG and I'm pretty sure this time I'm still going with LG. Not sure why but LG always has some feature that stands out and I just want it. For the G5 it was the wide angle camera and at the time I thought the modules were a good idea. Now with the G7 I like the boombox speaker and the notch actually looks good as well.

the g7 takes about a week for the battery to break in i have had 3 of them. caught one on fire (intentional) got one for daily and one for filming, and your best bet is to shoot all your photos in raw and edit them and videos too (with 3rd party app)

I like the video but I believe there is an area that is very important in comparisons and that is usability. In the fact that because of the curved edges of the S9 it is harder to find adequate cases or effective tempered glass screen protectors. It is much easier on slightly curved screens of phones like the g7 to find more options to customize and protect the phone which for many would be an investment.

There are more variety of cases to buy for the S9 though. I agree though I have noticed the screen protector comes off of the curved glass screens sometimes.

LG V10 had the notch at the upper left(or right) corner of the phone back then. As much I hate the notch, It will not hinder me to buy the G7 or V40. Hands down, LG makes the best audio phone in the market, couple with that a very good camera, snappy performance, a very good UI and an optional 2 year warranty that will not burn your pocket. Honestly, I can't afford it though, I am pretty much happy with my G5 with a free HiFi Plus.

Interestingly enough I just watched another review vid which said the battery on the G7 was a little better than the S9's. Whichever it is, maybe I'll have to assume that they're pretty even and that the difference is minimal enough that it just depends how the phone is used , what's running on it, etc. that accounts for differences.

LG G7 ThinQ screen is exceptionally better than any phone I ever had. I can even watch a movie outdoors. I can also take pictures when the sun is bright out there. I am pretty amazed with the screen of this phone. With the plans that Sprint offers, I had this phone for just the best deal. This is definitely a very good buy.

Everyone Loves Samsung, nothing new. But DAC and Wide camera in LG is something EXCLUSIVE and they do wonders. Big up to LG, Even after suffering losses LG is trying to mend things and offers products and quality which is not possible for a DE-GROWING company.

If you can get the g7 on a deal under 600 then it’s worth it. Otherwise the s9 is a better buy, the battery life on the g7 wasn’t that good, the colors were pretty good on the g7 but the blackish grey screen got a bit Annoying when watching videos since it’s not oled
