Listening to this through my K702s. Why am I watching a review of the product I'm using? Great headphones, though. I've been really, really happy with them. I listen to a bit of everything, and other headphones might sound better for rock or jazz or classical or hip-hop specifically, but I've never found any other headphone that sounds as good all around for my purposes.

I had Q701 for a very long time and they served me great for 9 years. I bought the K702 to replace them and they sounded no where close to as good as my Q701. They also broke less than a 2 months in. I had to send them in to get fixed which cost me 35 dollars in shipping. Wish I would have went with something else.

Yeah, they aren't really durable. Did your right side go deaf? I just bought a soldering iron and I had to use it more often than I'd liked. At least it's a pretty simple fix. One thing to note is that these headphones are really good for mixing if you are at least somewhat knowledgeable in your profession and have a few other sources to reference with. I have them, they're great but the ''width'' can be misleading, especially when mixing, and you should note that one factor that makes them sound that wide is the fact that bass frequencies are non-existent (it starts rolling off slightly above 100hz) comparing to some other products. Also a nice headphone preamp is almost a must with these. They do not sound bad without it but in practice you're not using them efficiently and do not get a flat response and detail, especially on the low end. They do have exceptionally good mid-range detail and can serve as a good tool but I'm not sure I would recommend them if you're a beginner-ish and these will be your only pair.

I bought these almost a decade ago for gaming specifically because of the soundstage. It's one of the biggest sound stages you can get at any price point (yes, at any price point) and they're great for open world games, shooters, racing games, you name it... They're a bit "soft" on bass but you can change that in EQ if you want to. I'm going to to the balanced mod on them next and the only reason why I might buy another pair of headphones is because I want to try some planar magnetic headphones like the Arya or the LCD-X... What I will say is that you really need to a headphone amp for these. They'll work if you just plug them in on a PC or laptop but you're doing yourself a disservice. I've ran then with a cheap Bravo Audio tube amp and now I have them with a Fiio K3 and they work amazingly well especially with the Hi Res audio and the Dolby Atmos for Headphones codec in Windows.

Have you had to change the earpads since buying them?
Жыл бұрын
@@TheHulksMistress I changed them recently due to some advice I got and also because the old ones were showing their age. I bought some Geekria Elite that are on the top end of replacement pads and those ones were less than £30 on Amazon.

@ wow, so the original pads lasted many years? That’s impressive. And thanks, I’ll make a note of those pads for when I do eventually need a new set. I got a used set of K702s turning up tomorrow for £50 and apparently they’re only 6 months old, so hopefully I’ll get several years out of the pads still
Жыл бұрын
@@TheHulksMistress To be fair I did over used them quite a bit, but I can't really say that I needed to switch them. I do have other headphones now, but for almost 4 years they were the only ones I used for both PC and console gaming and over 12 hours per day in some occasions. They are the best headphones at that price range as far as I'm concerned. For pairing I would suggest a Fiio K3. Budget DAC/AMP with amazing sound.

@ yeah I’ve been reading reviews all day, they sound great. Really looking forward to getting them tomorrow. I did have a set of Fidelio X2HR which are well known for a large soundstage, but I never liked them for some reason. Reading reviews for these k702 have made me realise why - they had very little mids, so they always sounded really hollow to me. Plus they’re ridiculously heavy. These k702 sound amazing for the price. I was always impressed by the X2HR’s clarity, but the k702 are apparently even better. And I’ve seen people even say the soundstage is larger which is really impressive. Apparently sounds like sitting at the back of a concert hall? Which is great ‘n all, but I’m most looking forward to games with them lol. I’m a huge single player games fan, so open world games with these must be amazing

I don't know if I'll ever understand why people say that flat and uncoloured sound signatures aren't good for listening to music. I love hearing every little detail in my music, so having more low-end or more treble than the actual signal isn't enjoyable to me.
@TheHulksMistress
@TheHulksMistress Жыл бұрын
I used to think v-shaped tuning was for me until I got a set of Koss Pro4S studio headphones and I realised how much I was missing. I realised they robbed a lot of music of their substance. Especially with metal, the ‘meat’ was taken out of those tracks In my opinion if a song is good, it doesn’t need extra bass or treble to be ‘exciting’. And for gaming I’ll never go back to v-shape (I had a set of X2HR originally), nothing beats a realistic sound
@ZinthYneX
@ZinthYneX Жыл бұрын
@@TheHulksMistress That's another thing. Video Games tend to be mixed on neutral monitors, so why not play them with neutral headphones?
@TheHulksMistress
@TheHulksMistress Жыл бұрын
@@ZinthYneX yeah it’s fairly bizarre. A few days back I was switching back and forth between some v-shaped sets and neutral in videogames. And not a single game benefitted (in my opinion) from v-shaped. I want footsteps to sound like actual footsteps, not a giant in stilettos walking on a tin floor I think most people just haven’t thought about it. They’ve been told v-shaped is “exciting” so they stick to what they know. Must be gutting for the sound engineers knowing their careful and painstaking work will be warped by the gamers ‘consumer-tuned’ headphones

Hey, I liked your video. I order these headphones. I'll receive it next week. I don't know if I'm in the right place to ask, but you'll just have to say it to me if it's not. I mainly play video games with headphones. No mixing or anything like this. I'm not an audiophile either. There's too many things I just don't really understand about sound. I just know most of gaming headsets aren't great or too expensive. So, I thought about the solution good headphones with "game style" amp. I have a wh-1000-xm3, and I don't really like using it on my PC. So I found these for 130 € and bought the soundblasterx G6 with it. I'm just in unknown grounds here lol. But do you think it's a good solution for me? The problem with headphones and all sound related stuff is that it's hard to grasp until you try it, but it's not a really affordable thing.

These headphones are specifically designed for studio applications and are absolutely ideal for mixing a song at 96 kilohertz or 192 kilohertz or more. That's why they are optimized for a very high frequency range. With these headphones it is also possible to mix a 64-bit resolution of sound wonderfully because even the finest nuances are reproduced. I have to say that I have a 32-bit audio interface and use plugins that sometimes even go up to 72-bit sound resolution. Most high-quality audio interfaces only go up to 24 bit, but that wasn't enough for me. So if you work with music software and do audio engineering, then it's good if you convert everything in a very high resolution and then edit it, and with these headphones you can still have even the finest nuances mapped and reproduced. At these higher resolutions the plug-ins have much more precision when editing and therefore a little more sound quality can be achieved if you know what you are doing. I want to mention all of this because with studio mixing & mastering headphones like the K702 it is absolutely possible that you get excellent sound because you automatically hear much better with these headphones than with ordinary studio headphones.

I bought the 701's which I think are the same, just a different colour. I was very underwhelmed by their performance. I can only compare them to the Sennheiser 660S. I used them to listen to music, not mixing. Maybe that's a mistake. I'm sure they have their place, but I found them to be kind of cheap feeling, they're HUGE... and the ear cups are shallow. My ears were touching the mesh inside (and no I don't have big ears) 🤣 and the 701's don't have a detachable cord unfortunately. Also, the volume level dropped significantly compared to the same setup with the Sennheisers

These would be great for gaming as long as you have an amp. Although the only caveat is they're great for something like voice lines or footsteps, not booming guns or explosions. If you're in the same price range though and willing to spend about $50 extra the k712 Pro are amazing. Same wide sound stage but with much better base and some would say a more relaxed sound. Although if you're ok with open backed headphones (the k712 pro are also open backed and if you don't know what that means bascily it lets more sound in and out of the headphones) and adjusting the eq (if you want that missing base) you'll be set

I can talk about the K240 MKII wich I own. The K702 sounds much more cold and dry than the K240 MKII. K240 MKII is warmer. K702 sounds fantastic but is also very analitical. Some recordings will sound dry and fatiguing. This is an advantage for mixing. K702 show you details the K240 MKII can't. K702 needs a powerful source. If your mixer has a powerful headphone output or If you have an amplifier, yeah, the k702 will be a fantastic headphone, but it has a very different sound signature. If you don't want to buy an amp, I would say to stay with the K240.

@Numinous123 FiiO A5 on low gain switch with bass boost off is the cheapest thing that makes them shine, that's just an AMP, you will need DAC aswell so it doesn't rly end up cheap, you can use your PC as DAC tho if your motherboard for decent onboard audio, it should be illegal plugging akg k702 in your phone, illegal I say, if you want something for listening without a proper AMP just get Beyerdynamic Tygr 300 R, much better than K702 without proper AMP, 80% there to properly amped K702, it just misses that sweet high frequency detail and HUGE soundstage, only step up over properly amped K702 for gaming is spending A LOT more money and getting Sennheiser HD800, that's about it, if you can't afford another $150(-250) for FiiO A5(and a DAC) do yourself a favor and get Tygr 300 R from Beyerdynamic, your ears will thank you
