I got into making pour overs finally after never really having the space in my apartments or money to spend on the gear and I thought this would be a cool design to start on / learn with. I did not realize that it is focused on a fill up method and i’ve been trying to make traditional style pour overs with it for a few months now and i feel kinda stupid for not realizing it’s not really made for that. Was wondering why it was always so inconsistent. I feel like its really difficult to get a great flavor consistently. The grind size has to be perfect too and it’s frustrating to dial it in. I ended up finally giving up and buying a v60 set up this week.

@@shauncassidy3658 Yeah! The X is more geared towards the traditional method, but honestly for that price it's better to stick with a v60 or kalita wave. I definitely think the XF has its merits for sure, but it seems too pigeonholed in a certain style of coffee for the best flavour imo.

@@ChadtheFilipino wound up buying it and made my first pour over this morning, I was ASTONISHED at what the coffee tasted like and how incredibly easy it was to make. I would recommend this to anyone especially a beginner…. You really can’t miss with it.

What kind of roast are you using for your coffee? But yeah its definitely on the pricier side compared to an origami or v60 but its definitely less equipment and time required!

Ah! I haven't had that problem so far. That little tray and the pouring-assistant device helps a lot for me!

Fellow included the small stainless steel funnel to prevent that from happening. You’d pre-wet and warm up the filter and dripper and carafe, discard excess water, and then place the funnel on top of the filter to insert your grinds.

Ah yeah, curious about the switch. Seems interesting. THe fellow XF is definitely a workhorse for fast easy pours

Hey! They are sufficient. Because you're not gramming it out, it won't be precise to the gram, but I think for a quick and flavorful cup with a medium/dark roast it'll be just great for them!

Not sure! I haven't used the X but I'm assuming you're using a scale and timer when you do your pour overs for these complex beans?

I just think that this brew method is more conducive to medium/dark roast because of the way it extracts. Whereas with lighter roast you want to have more of the nuance and intricacy of the flavour profile that a v60/origami would provide!

Good question! I think if you get the XF you'd probably need to use their filters just because of how tall they are. I don't see why you couldn't use it with kalita wave filters either since they're the same shape, just flatter and less tall. I'll give it a try and report back.

@@ChadtheFilipino you can use the kalita wave filters. Watched a few of the onyx brew guides using the dripper and they used the kalita filters.
