Interesting to hear you make a case for single rabbits. I agree with what you say. I think it's a shame that so many are still in shelters when they could have homes with people who might only be able to care for one. Where I'm from I'm always hearing the message that it's not ok to have one. I've got four though!

not many bunny people make the case for single rabbits and you make a good point about rabbits needing to be adopted and being happy if they get enough attention. ive been thinking about rabbit friend for my boy but its not in the cards right now due to living situation/finances.

i have a single bun! i’d love to get him a friend but it’s not very possible right now. there’s always someone at home to play with and spoil him so my worries are eased a litte! also interestingly, my country has some rabbit boarding places that will help bond your rabbits for you. of course, it’s always best to do it yourself so you can closely monitor and get to know your buns better!

We adopted a friend for Tu Shen about a month ago. It took a minute, but we learned who is the dominate bun of the two. Our adopted one, Xiao Wu. While we cannot put them together until Shen is neutered, they can interact between the barrier and race each other. >.> Xiao Wu even teases Shen. I really wish my local shelter would take yours and 101Rabbits advice. The rabbits at the local shelter are not kept well, thus why we brought Xiao Wu home.

I should not have gotten a second rabbit. The first one was perfect and lovely. The second was a great rabbit also and they bonded very well together. I thought the first needed a friend, but didn't realize the way I wanted to care for these rabbits would overwhelm me with two. The first loved me and my boyfriend, the second love exploring and being around our old shihtzu. Either would've been great on their own in our house or together in someone else's house. I eventually had to give them up. If I ever get a rabbit again I'll stick with only one.

I just adopt my second rabbit. Literally, two days ago. My first bunny was spayed. However, the second bunny was dumped by the previous owners (in a field - awful people), so he is not even vaccinated and needs to be neuter. This will be my first time bonding rabbits and honestly, I am little nervous. Hope for the best and they will both be happy together. At least I work from home and I can spent a lot of time with them.

I planned on getting a single baby rabbit for a year before I got him. I researched, researched, researched. He has plenty of stuffed bunny friends and loves my dog more than me. He is always around us. He comes and goes anywhere he pleases. I put so much time, money and energy into my little love bug I honestly believe he’s better off a single bunny. He will know no different. So he won’t be missing anything.

Thank you for this video! I live in Germany and have just one rabbit, it lives with me in my room. Rabbit community here is judging me for keeping a single rabbit and for keeping it inside. My rabbit shows all sings of a happy rabbit and I think rabbits don't belong outdoors. But just here in Germany almost everyone is keeping them outside. I'm not ready for new rabbit so I'm so happy to see it is okay to have just one. ❤️🐰

I also live in Germany. My German vet says it is Okay to have 1 rabbit if you give them a lot of attention. I found in Internet different opinions. Some says 1 rabbit is Okay. Some says you must keep at least 2 rabbits. I think it is important to look if the rabbit is happy or depressive. My vet always says: Better 1 free roam rabbit than 2 rabbits in 1 cage. I have 100% Homeoffice. My previous female rabbit lived 11,5 years. She was very territorial and jealous of me.

Today my special needs bunny bonded with my cat. My cat is 6 years old and has always hated all animals. She would attack any living thing. She has been that way her whole life. But she started loving on my bunny and playing with her. I was amazed. I never thought she would tolerate any animal besides her, much less love one so much.

I got a bonded dad and daughter pair (neutered male and a fertile female). The boy is nearly 3 and the girl just turned 2. She began to have some issues with humping and spraying in the spring. The dad got really stressed about the new shift in power and hormones, so we had to separate them until she was spayed and healed. (He went through GI stasis, otherwise I wouldn't separate bonded buns but he was really not happy) We kept them close together and they could see and smell each other if they wanted. Few weeks after the spay we started bunny dates again. Only 2 days into the re-bonding process the girl escaped her enclosure one night to be with her dad. We still don't know how. We had raised the fence between them and we thought we had blocked all holes. And we slept in the same room and heard nothing. But there she was, with her dad again. Just washing his face and snuggling up together. Is this normal? She is very smart and sassy, and of course a phenomenal escape artist. He is the sweetest, most laid back bun ever but is this type of bonding normal? I was prepared for much more work with them but they genuinely seem to love each other straight away. Should I be worried this could take a bad turn again? They've been together for a few days now and they do everything together

I wanted to get a bunny friend for my bun-boy. I adopted a girl, and unfortunately, we had to return her back to the shelter because the stress that was involved with the bonding sort of ignited my rabbits dire chronic kidney disease. One day he was fine (just stressed with the bonding process) and the next, he lost function of his legs and got super sickly. The new girl did not take this lightly and got kind of pushy with him. She did get a new home and we missed that little new girl, but if she didn't go back to the shelter when she did, she would have lost more out of it. I have had to put so much work on my resident bunny to keep his kidneys functioning and actually save his life (we almost lost him a couple of weeks after the initial problem). My bunny is now so much better and almost back to is normal behaviors, but there will forever now be work involved that getting another bunny will just not be an option. He needs syringe feeding to keep his weight up, IV fluid therapy twice a week, daily medications, and constant cleaning and care of his hindlegs and private area. I know he would love a friend if he wasn't in these conditions, but it's just something that won't be able to happen for now. I think when his time comes, I would only adopt bonded pairs.

We kept our baby bunny in a hutch with a large rabbit run outside. On the advice of a shelter/farm/breeder where I went to look for another rabbit to keep her company, we ended up buying a guineapig as a companion for her. They lived together very happily for over 3 years, snuggling up to each other and generally fussing over each other. We often wondered if they actually knew they were different? Unfortunately this week Pippin our rabbit escaped our rabbit run (which had a network of wire tunnels around our reasonably big garden and which led to another pen at the other side of the garden). Anyway my son found piipin in the garden savaged and killed by some other animal. We are all heart broken (especially my daughter who used to spend much time with both). So we decided to get another rabbit to keep Ginger (the Guineapig company). I googled to see if it was ok to put a Buck in (as there was one available locally - pipping was a Doe), to my surprise I read a few posts stating that guineapigs and rabbits do not make good company? We are confused and desperate as my daughter really wants a rabbit to keep Ginger company. Please can you give us some solid advice as things don't make sense judging on how they seemed to love each others company?
@TheBunnyLady
@TheBunnyLady 3 жыл бұрын
I'm so sorry for your loss, it's always heartbreaking when something like this happens This is a topic that is a little controversial, and many people have strong opinions. I know it used to be commonplace to keep rabbits and guinea pigs together because spaying and neutering were not as safe as they are today. Keeping rabbits and guinea pigs gave them a chance for socialization without risk of multiplying, and they typically fight less with members of other species. The main concerns that people have now with keeping the two species together are that rabbits can potentially injure guinea pigs and some illnesses that rabbits get can pass to guinea pigs and cause a much more severe reaction. What I would do in this situation is keep the rabbit and guinea pig in separate enclosures, but still allow them to have a lot of playtime together. This is, of course, assuming that your new rabbit is well behaved and gentle around Ginger and both are healthy.

She has started humping non stop my male rabbit and pulling his hair. I take it she has reached sexual maturity and is trying to take over dominence. Now i have to split them up i think cause hes getting stressed. I made the mistake of bonding before neutering them both.

I have a female Flemish giant (I think she's only 1/2 bc she isnt ginourmous like the ones in the videos), and it's hard to decide bc 1) I doubt we could easily find another Flemish giant and she could really hurt another rabbit bc of her size and we don't have space to have a whole nother cage , hers take up like 1/4 of our room already, but we don't have space for her to free roam a lot so it makes me sad bc I feel like she gets bored. She was at the store w another rabbit that looked just like her but I don't know if they would've fought either , and we still didn't have room for a second emergency cage just in case.

I’m not planning on to get a other one, because he is the happiest spoiled bun I’ve ever met. Plus the reasons you already said. But if the time comes I’m going to get an other one, when life change or something. Then Only my question is, he haven’t seen or been with an other bunny since I have him, is he going to react nice when they try to bond my bunny? In the Netherlands is a place where you can bring your bun and get it back with a new partner. :)
@TheBunnyLady

It depends, sometimes rabbits that have been single for a long time are harder to bond with another rabbit, but it's definitely still possible. It really depends on the personalities of the two rabbits involved.
@loviebeest
@loviebeest 3 жыл бұрын
Most shelters here in the Netherlands have a speed dating option, but mostly that is to see if they are not immediately aggressive to each other. The rest of the bonding process is on you. A lot fewer shelters do the stayover bonding, but they are experienced people who know how to let rabbits bond. They have a neutral space for the bonding process and are used to rabbits that may have never been around other rabbits. I would say that if you don't have the neutral space or feel like you don't know enough about the bonding then I would say give the stayover a go. (I'm a bunny lover but not an expert so take my advice with a grain of salt)

well im not amy but you can see how your rabbit reacts when they bark and react accordingly. if you don't have a hidey house you should get one so if hey ever feel scared they can feel safe in there. other than that, as long as there separated and your dogs don't bark all day the bunny should be fine. if anything it'll be good for them to get used to noise.

Rabbits and dogs together can be tough. This is something that generally depends on the personality of the animals, so it's good that you're being careful about this. My advice would be to either give your rabbits a room where the dog isn't allowed, or to fence off parts of the home to separate the rabbit territory from the dog territory. Then you can give them supervised and controlled playdates to see if they can ever be compatible enough to live together.
