The SOG Seal Pup is a great tactical fixed blade. Is the Elite Series worth purchasing as well? #sog #sogsealpup #tacticalknife

I've had the SOG SEALPUP ELITE for probadly 20 years and never used it even once. I just loved the look and feel about it so I bought it . I probadly have 20 to 30 top notch knives I never used because there so sweet looking.

I don’t feel a bit bad about owning lots of knives that I’ve never used. I’ve picked out a handful of users and even they don’t get used very much. Two knives that I bought and fully intended to use because they were available in left hand specific models, haven’t been used because they were just too damn nice😂 (Chris Reeve) Now that I’ve admitted such a foolish thing I’m going to reevaluate using those things. I’m going to get them out and cut something with them.

Got to love that all black. Though I do try not to carry the tactical stuff when I dont want to be percieved as a threat. A stag handle hunting knife doesn't get people as spooked.

I've had the opportunity to carry SOG's seal pups. As a ground worker for a Tree/landscaper service, I needed a blade more than I thought.... I fell in love with the nylon sheath first, having to glue the retention strap once a week... Didn't bother me! SOG's base M37 model became a "mascot" among co workers, convinced them to get their own seal pup! The M37 saved me from a life changing accident, long story short my seal pup cut thru tangled climbing rope. The close call with death inspired me to get another Seal pup... Unaware that I was carrying a base model! The Seal Pup Elite's upgrades were appreciated. the AUS8 steel heat treatment performed a little better than the base model.... I didn't appreciate the aggressive spine jimping.... Fearing the jimping would cause the Elite to get snagged outta my hand and afraid to modify a brand new Elite. There's nothing wrong with the base model and the Elite upgrades were not worth it to me. If it is not broken, don't fix it!!! I traded my Elite for a SOG S37 Seal 2000! After spending some time with an early version of the Seal 2000, I realized the SEKI CITY made steel was far superior! In my experience I would call the Japanese made Seal Pups the "ELITE" versions! I am looking to sell/trade my S37, especially for a "SEKI CITY ELITE" Seal Pup! Anyways I am digging the 411 Outdoors Channel content! I always learn something. I wish I could afford to Support 411 outdoors.... I'd be glad to send my SEAL 2000 for a truly comprehensive look at SOG'S SEAL series..... Please feel to contact me in North Carolina. Also Please keep up the GOOD Work my friend! Peace out

The Sealpup was one of the first fixed blades I ever owned. Before KZfaq , that's how long ago. I saw it in a Guns&Ammo magazine and I had to have one. I think I paid about the same too. Never had an Elite. I like SOG. I prefer tactical type of blades even for my folders until this day. I use them for everything. Even at work. Hopefully they'll come out with new designs soon as be as popular as they once were. Alot of those blades were carried by our brothers when they went overseas and that's a fact.

Love your content. I have a SOG Seal Pup from Seki Japan that my dad gave me a couple decades ago when I was about 8. Id like to get another Seal Pup so I don't carry around this collectable. My three favorite fixed blades are Kobun, Seal Pup, and Ka-Bar Short. But if I could find like a Gerber mark 1 style of small dagger id carry that. But for me Bowies, Tanto's, and Daggers are defiantly my favorite types of knives.

Great review. I have a Seal Pup. If I were starting over . . . I would buy the plain edge elite with the composite sheath for eventual horizontal, behind the back carry. What you said about having multiples is correct. I have multiples of the discontinued Ontario TFI - full tang, slightly more than 5 inch blade. It is the knife that I gave to my son for car carry in his car . . . and he does about 30k miles a year. I am older and have too many knives. The only fixed blade knife that I have purchased more than once in the last 15 years is the Peletonen. It is a Mora on steroids that is carried by the armies of Finland and Estonia. It's draw back is the sheath.

I own most variations of the Seal series knives. They have caught a lot of flack on the internet throughout the years; however, I really like these knives. They are practically indestructible, hold an edge, and sharpen easy! The SEAL Team elite is my favorite, with the SEAL strike in second place. Great video!

Great work ❤ If you advertise something weather it be from the heart or not you should get recognition for it due to your passion without shame, if you get a sponsor to support what you do from a good company it’s because they want to be honest like you and not take people for their money, take if it’s offered don’t let the wrong people falsify it, let not the devil get a foot hold😎

Good review. It is light enough, with mandatory guard, and a good length to fit in my pocket concealed. I could carry this for self-defense, but it would not be my choice for outdoor work. The SOG Pillar does work for both outdoor work and tactical. I love it, but it cost more, not a lot more.

Luv the Seal Pup. Wish they would make an updated version of the Seal Knife 2000 with the full size blade. With a kydex sheath in Aus 10 maybe?

I agree with casual vs tactical. I get funny looks with a kydex sheath, but no one bats an eye when they see a leather sheath. They just think it’s grandads Buck or kabar. But kydex just gives them instant mall ninja vibes. I think grommets leather craft is the only one putting out a decent leather sheath for the seal pups and a few Etsy makers. I pulled the nylon liner out of the fabric sheath, put some soda box cardboard in it for friction fit. I use this simplified method for “throw carry” throw it in a bag, truck, tackle box etc.

What is the bumpy side used for at the top of the knife? What's its purpose?

I think it could be additional grip (for gimping) or more discomfort to your opponent in combat haha

If the thickness is about the same its not worth it. You can order the $40 seal pup, made in Taiwan and a $15 kydex sheath

It's a nice looking knife, but if I were to carry a fixed blade knife for personal protection, I'd want a better hand-guard on it.
