Should You Move Through Your Volley (Tennis Technique & Footwork Explained)
1. Split step as your opponent hits
2. Move toward the ball
3. Step last with the foot that’s on the side where you’re hitting
4. Continue moving after contact

Like the idea of moving through the volley. Especially in singles. There is a problem in doubles when all four players are already at the net. After you move forward the next volley is already in your face before you have time to recover back. In such cases better to be stationary.

This is a situational decision. It depends on your original position on the court when you hit the volley. I speak as a serve and volley/ chip and charge player. If you are behind the service line or on it you probably should close in. Also of you take your volley high and hit down at their feet you might benefit by closing in for a high return depending on how close you are from the net. Again it depends on exactly where you are on the court and the situation.

Ryan, thanks for another very good video. Your videos are well thought out and cover stuff, like this one and your serve videos, that nobody else is touching upon. Keep up the great work.

Great lesson! From the lesson, I can totally understand if you talk about volleys on the transition to the net. But the bigger question is that should you also move forward when you volley at the net? Does the same technique apply? Thank you!

Yes. Move through volleys when at the net too. But at the net you won’t volley deep, you’ll volley short angle so opponent can’t get it and lob. Thanks!

I like your videos & learn a lot but may I suggest that 8½ minutes is way too long to make your point - especially when your title is 2-Minute Tennis & your platform is in "Internet Time" where your viewers like to move onto other videos. If you can tighten these up quite a bit, I think that you would have even more followers.
