There's been a lot of conversations about Canada (good and bad). The question is should you move to Canada in 2024? Is it still worth it with high prices and housing crises?

I have lived in Canada 42 years and am planning to leave in a couple of years at the most. I am a dual citizen and plan to move to Portugal where I was born. This is a beautiful country with some amazing people but it has declined so much. I know that you are comparing the crime rate in Canada to countries with a lot more crime or civil unrest but to me the increasing rate of crime is alarming and I am not talking about petty thefts. There is a huge mental health crisis and we now have thousands of people living on the streets and people being attacked and killed on transit and in the streets. When every time I walk out of my home I see someone suffering it breaks my heart and makes me not want to go anywhere, add to that the insane increase in the cost of living and the deplorable health care system and what do we have left. This is no life. There are basic human rights and needs required to have a functioning society and our infrastructure is crumbling at this point(affordable housing, transportation, healthcare, safety). I would not recommend anyone move to Canada at this point unless where you are coming from is much worse.

Hello Yulia! good job with the amazing content. Just wanted to ask a quick question, I got my visa stamped already and I'm basically ready to travel to Canada but the thing is that my first day of school is in May, so do you recommend travelling ASAP or what is the perfect timing to pack and go?

thank you & congrats! if I were you, I'd come closer to May for 2 reasons: you can't work until your studies start + you'll need to pay rent in Canada which is really expensive. hope this helps!

Maybe in the future when I got retirement, I will move to Portugal because there is a kind of visa that accept brazilian do live there and receive payment from retirement abroad. Tks.

Kids, kids, kids--- if you believe attending a college or university is a path to PR... dream on. It has worked (note: past tense) up to now, and I know some ppl who came here after whatever-you-call secondary school "back home" and got PR a few years ago. It is becoming close to impossible to live almost everywhere in Canada, unless you spend C$1000/month for a private bedroom ( and 12 month leases are the norm, not the exception). Aside from weather, cost of food, and the much-higher tuition you will pay, you will find nothing but C$15/hr jobs, unless you choose to work illegally for cash... and there are next to no $15/hr jobs that dont have long application lineups with 100s of ppl that look like you. And driving for Uber pays not much more than your costs. Background before the big news: Canada has underfunded post-secondary for so long, that to survive, some schools have specifically targeted foreign students with special programs for their higher tuition. Uh oh! Big news: Local employers know which schools are diploma/certificate mills. Around here, resumes from 'grads' from Centennial and Conestoga are filtered out. Bonus tip: some especially unscrupulous operators have created 'schools' where close to 100% of the enrollees are foreign students. These exploiters give their 'private' 'schools' posh-sounding "Canadian"/ "English" names--- and when you arrive, guess what? No Canadians. You've been swindled. Big hint: If the ''institution" will not reveal % of enrolled foreign students, save your money. The employers already know these "schools" and do not hire from them. Any more than 10% FS, hard pass.

I am living in Lebanon. The situation is awful here. If someone stole your right there is no government to restore your right and punish your aggressor. @@ThisisYulia I want a nice and peaceful country with clean environment in addition to law and order. Also efficient health care system is important. I think Switzerland has these qualities bur their emigration system is very hard and complex. I don't get worried about finding jobs as I will be a freelancer soon and digital nomad so I can work anywhere I can with my laptop as long as there are good internet service. I think both Portugal and Spain are fine as they have friendly people & wonderful natural sceneries & safe countries & acceptable health care system and easier immigration rules in comparison to countries like the US and Switzerland that has the most difficult immigration rules in the world. I guess the main challenge of Portugal and Spain is bureaucracy
@ThisisYulia

Canadian healthcare is not very efficient, so bye-bye Canada. Portugal is great but if you wanna live in Lisbon / Porto, the rent is crazy high. if you choose to live outside of those cities, you won't need a lot of money. as for bureaucracy, it's not that bad in Portugal: we renewed our residency cards in 3 clicks (they didn't ask us for any information). at the same time, it took my husband 1.5 years to get his driver's license exchanged while I got mine in a month or less. hope this helps!

One of our major cities in the south = CURITIBA = was founded by Czeck, Russians, Ukranians - eastern Europeans Worth a visit for sure !

If you are a NURSE, YES, there are LOTS of opportunities for you, if you are a International Medical Graduate you will face YEARS, THOUSANDS of $$ ad probably will NEVER have a chance to practice here... YES. there are NO doctors, but they DO NOT WANT US, because the doctors don't want competition, specially from better educated ones. I have a GP because I have a condition and they made it faster for me, but she is SO SO SO BAD, she knows so little that embarasses me as a GP of a 3rd world country. I actually need to bring my own diagnosis orelse she is ALWAYS clueless. My friend has a problem for FOUR years, she has a GP, and her GP is STILL searching for the all wrong conditions. In ONE conversation I figured out what she had, she suggested it to her GP, they tested and "tah dah", she is now in treatment and getting better... You are right Julia; DONT COME TO CANADA if you have a medical condition, and pray to one never happen here, you'll probably die of it :(

I'm planning to stay here, yes! as for Spain vs Portugal, I'd pick Portugal for several reasons: faster citizenship (5 vs 10 years), Spain doesn't allow dual citizenship via naturalization, NHR (not sure if it will still exist in 2025). I quit the idea of going to Canada since Mr. Turd-eau menace people with raising the carbon tax and he had the support from the third party in the house of Commons. Then, the government just raise the financial base for students and temporary workers twice. Then, I left that possibility. Now I'm trying to learn German. And I'm scared because I feel that I wasted my time about Canada, specially living in one of the most dangerous countries in the world without being at war. Canada is a super nice country to live, when you live in a warm place, like Vancouver (in safe neighborhoods) and have $$$ k annual income and your spouse too, and your warm house is paid off. Rest of the problems are solvable, even with the present incompetent Liberal government. Almost every western country works by the same rules, more or less

Canada is NOT the country it used to be..jobs are not easy to come by..you get taxed to death..rents are very very high if you can even fing a place.Houses are very unaffordable...the lady on the video makes canada a great place with no crime...well mabe she has her eyes closed because canadas crime rate has syy rocketed..theres gangs and shootings everyday now..I find mexico safer than Canada..theres nothing but drug addicts walking around every where now..They rule the parks and streets with litter and needles everywhere..You dont want to go out at night or take your kids to a park at any time.A rcmp was just shot down by one a half year ago...So when I hear videos like this telling people that Canada is safe i just gringe.

first of all, I never said “no crime”. I said there is crime but it’s nothing compared to other countries. as for drug addicts, it really depends on the city. Toronto and Vancouver has a lot of them while Montreal and Ottawa are fine (at least from what I saw back in June). again, I do agree with your points but please bare in mind that people are moving to Canada from much worse & dangerous places. peace!
