so don't buy a "ghetto E55"? OK.

E55 is one of the best old AMGs you can get. M113K and the transmission are bulletproof. All non AMG parts are easily affordable since they are taxis in europe atleast. M156 is a gamble if you get them used.

We’ve seen a good few of these engines fail too. Also seen a good amount of front pump failures on the .6 but Generally yes they’re nearly bulletproof

Don't understand the doom and gloom, they are 20 year old cars, of course they are not mint. I owned an 05 E55 for 5 years, never spent a penny on repairs. Gas, oil, filters and go like hell.

A few too many negative comments here for my liking - I own an E55 over here in England, and you are right in your analysis and I'm certainly not the least bit hurt. They aren't worth so much here, £8-12k is typical and £20k a low miles minter, and £6k for a moon miles scruffy one. The climate means we suffer less with rubbers and plastics degrading, and more with corrosion - rear wheel arches and the 'shelf' trap by the front air-struts. I'm currently going through mine having just painted and treated the underside then refreshed all the suspension bushes and ball/heim joints; I'll do an alignment and get it running really tight. The driveability stock is brilliant and they are an absolute joy to pilot at six to eight tenths. Mine is a wagon and I don't think I've ever seen another on the road; but I get nods of appreciation and thumbs up more regularly than I ever expected, especially as they fly under the radar so much, and before I got mine, I probably wouldn't have noticed them! Enjoy the content on these anyway, so thanks for the video.

Great to read your comments and learn of the work you’ve done. My 2005 E350 W211 is likewise always a joy to drive. Here in the intense Australian heat and sunshine, exterior weather rubbers eventually degrade-after 12 years or so. The stitching on the top edge of the rear seats also splits-the glass above intensifies the attack (I cover the area to protect it). Recently replaced the windshield’s weather shelf/ rubber seal assembly (an $800 part) as the rubber had perished with numerous splits-though water has never entered the cabin. Heat perhaps is detatching the head lining from its base, near the rear window-stabilised with a couple of spiral pins, rather than risk replacing.Have just checked the under car rubber-boots, bushes, mounts, etc and no probs. Before the W211 I owned an ‘87 W124 300E-at 28 years old it had no rubber or interior degradation-it was another MB that was always a pleasure to drive-it had the most sublimely perfect ride, nothing can match it, yet it was still precise and fun to push it hard through corners :-) Anyway, long live the W211 !

I bought one , low mileage great car. never selling it ill be the last owner. ppl mod them heavily and not properly i wanted one bone stock. Also the 55 bumper does look better with a splitter on it.. 63 bumper is hyped up. Only way i would change it is if i get everything OEM from a 63 car

Maybe it’s a USA thing with folk abusing their cars or skipping maintenance. But as with your dismissive video Re the M157 engine (I owned one for 80000km without a single issue) I also owned a 2004 SL55 with a similar set up to the E55 again totally without issue for 70000kM - only thing I did was upgrade the intercooler pump due to progressive heat soak. Here in New Zealand I rarely see the issues you say these engines are plagued with.

Different countries see different things, even within the states in different areas we'll hear shops see things totally different! Can definitely understand it. However as mentioned in the other video, the math doesn’t lie. Your sample size is minuscule. 2 cars and 35-50k miles pales in comparison to what we see. Thank you again for your sharing your experiences and comment!

@@DCMotorWerks I have both W210 and S211 E55's. I prefer the W210 because you feel connected to the car. The 211 chassis is a lot heavier, has the electric brakes, and just feels disconnected. I do love my E320 CDI, but that's for different reasons.

I heard the 210's are more prone to rust and electric issues but I could be wrong. I would go for w211 because it's not that much more money if you can find the right car.

Prep for more electrical issues, not just because of age but quality too. If you find a W210, check to see if the wiring harness has ever been replaced. Hopefully it has.

Most things should be maintained in their original state, be they antique homes or classic cars. I noticed the wrong grille, bumper and headlamp covers--they're incorrect for the earlier door mirrors. IMO, the ill-fitting bumper and tall grille degrade value--yet an owner spent money on them! The dangerous wiring jobs, the stupid wood screwed diffuser and amateur botched head relining are too sad. Fastidious buyers or collectors would glance, then run...

@@DCMotorWerks As with any older car, the value comes from DIY. NO old car (over 10-15 years old) is cheap to take to a mechanic. If you have no mechanical skill, you have no good reason to buy an older car (unless you're filthy rich).
