Good topic. I am full time working lady I can’t take leave on karwa chauth as mostly ladies on lower post will take leave. As head of department you have to keep department functioning. Maids will take full day leave. So you have to prepare tasty festival food at home. I myself drive& husband comes late in evening. Now in my mid fifties I have stopped doing this fast. Husband ko financial support do. Take care of his health through out year. No unjustified demands from husband. That is my Karwachauth 😊

What festival food on Karwachauth? It’s a fast day normal day rice is made at night that too without onion. What’s the big deal.. my mother was working lady she used to keep fast do all the rituals n that time there wr no maids n no dadi nani ki help was availble. Make fuss abt our culture n future generation wil nt follow n our festivals wil be gone soon. Even English people take their festivals seriously thanksgivin n Easter n Christmas seriously but here people r like pta Kay big deal hai.

I am 35 and neither my mother nor mother in law did this. It's an intercaste marriage and we both are North Indian. Me and my husband are doing the same job in same office. We both are building assets, upbringing our family as a whole, supporting each other financially, traveling and not putting such unwarranted expectations on each other. Though my relatives ask me "tum karwa chauth nahi rakhti" and I boldly and clearly reply..."No, it's not part of my culture" and I can't starve just for sake of social pressure.😂😂. Btw I am from UP and my husband from uttarakhand. So, yes not originally part of our culture.

Karva Chauth is hyped due to bollywood. Hartalika teej is more difficult to observe. By the way these vrats are observed only out of shraddha and love for our tradition.

I totally agree with you. Ladies are burdened by societal pressure and give in. How is it a Festival when women are forced to fast. If the husband smokes two packs of cigarettes per day there's no way he'll live a long life regardless of the Karva Chouth fast. Fasting for your husband's long life is well "suffering'. Thank you guruji 🙏 Hundred years back widows had a tough time with a dozen kids. So they prayed and fasted for the long life of their husband since he was the only earning member at home

I'm originally from Assam, and Karva Chauth was not much heard of even 10 years back. Nowadays, it is observed that even Assamese wives have also started following the ritual, mostly inspired by Hindi serials and peer pressure.

I am from North and I did varalakshmi puja this year because I wanted to. I had worshipped Ashtalakshmi and she blessed me with a little girl. This form of devi is not even known in North, but I found her and she listened to me. Do whatever you have shraddha in. There is no point in following rituals without bhav.

I live in north india but i m from different state where we don't do karvachauth vrat. Ladies here won't leave any single chance to shame my mother for not keeping the karvachauth vrat. They behave as if my father won't live long if my mother doesn't keep the fast. Similar things happened with me when i was kid, daughters of those aunties bullied me for not applying mehandi for karvachauth and so on.. Is it too hard to understand that some people have different culture ??

I never liked the idea of karwa chauth. However, after marriage i had to start keeping the vrat coz my MIL and husband wanted me to keep this vrat. 😢😊 Anyway i celebrate it as a detox day😂 Now my MIL and husband want me to keep Ahoi vrat too for my baby😢 but i don't want to .... My MIL wanted me to keep ekadashi vrat as well, but then I refused coz it falls very frequently every month and vrat food=unhealthy and oily food mostly

I'm from BIHAR sir. Chhath is so so so difficult!!!!!! Jo pooja karta hai koi seema nahi hai kasht ki. Jo bhookhe rehte hai unhe hi devta ki upaadhi de di jaati hai because of it's difficulty. Poore family ki haalat puncture ho jaati hai. INSIDE JOKE hai bihariyo me ko Karwa chauth to PARTY hai😂!

In south indian ladies observe Varalakshmi vrat for long life of husbands. In Maharashtra ladies observe Vat Savitri puja for longevity of husband. Actually praying for husband's health and longevity is intergral part of culture. In these pujas there is no fasting, instead the lady cooks nice stuff and eats with husband happily. Karwa Chauth fasting becomes too much because lady has to fast whole even without water. I prefer Varalakshmi puja which comes in the month of sravan month. Yes actually ladies should pray everyday for husband's well-being. Love is very important between husband and wife. Thank you for nice insights about Karwa Chauth. 🙏

Nonsense. Varamahalakshmi vratam is for Goddess Lakshmi and not for husband’s health. Tamils celebrate Nomb vratam and kannadigas celebrate Bheemana Amavase celebrating husbands good health. Don’t generalize something when you don’t know how others celebrate.

In Telugu culture Varalakshmi is celebrating saubhagyvati ladies coming together and praying to Varalakshmi for long happy married life or saubhagyam. In other words long life of husband. In Maharashtra vat Savitri. I don't know about kannadigas or tamilians. Yes word "South India" is wrongly used but what I say is not "Nonsense". I said in Indian culture some or the other way married woman pray for husbands health. And any pativrata woman prays for husband everyday without waiting for any occasion to pray. That's why I wanted to present here.

Chaath puja is hard no doubt, 4 days in totality, first day one time meal in the morning, 2nd day one time meal in the evening, third day and night absolute fasting, 4th day they break the fast after morning puja. Chaath puja is one of those festivals in which you give business or money or importance to almost all kinds of shops, you need cloths, fruits groceries, meeti k bartan, sup khachia (made up of bamboo).

Bhen.. karvachauch is a punjab side recent creation. Muslims used to id looking at moon and had their 40 day fasting month ramzan, of eating nothing during daylight hours and feasting like food was about to go out of fashion at night. These punjabi asked the muslim and concocted this idea to oppress their women just like kerosene stove dowry-bride burning. There is no example of this garbage anywhere else. Not in any veda. The pundit class concoct new purans to incorporate moneymaking puja like satyanarayan katha, kalsarp dosh, karvachauth to get suit-lenght and dakshina. Our mil is a serial-rani who does the same. I keep cheetos etc to eat at leisure and keep up the facade to placate her.

We, in Bihar, celebrate Badsavitri and it has been celebrated since antiquity, even when we were just farmers. Fasting one day has never killed anyone and the spiritual act of any fast makes it a fast. Being hungry is not fasting.

Bahut tiredness ho jata tha.. so I am not fasting since few years. Bhagwan ji ki pooja karo, pray karo, mast khana banao, khao aur khilao 🙂 There are lot of occasions in Bihar Jharkhand where people fast: Shivratri 16 somvar Hartalika teej Jitiya Navratri Diwali Chath pooja - very difficult Etc.

Even in UP is was not popular. But women kept it as a normal fast but not nirjala. It was far from pomp and show. No lena dena. Sedha was and till now it is only cooked food . 5 years back my mother did udyapan for Karva fast.

Nothinh wrong is celebrating others custom but our own cystoms should also be revived. While doing dandiya is ok but local songs and dances should also be given importance and protected. Some cultures are glorified but others we forget about. I think hardly anyone now would know of folk culture of up forget about following.

My MIL was very ill, she was advised to get admitted to hospital a day before karwachauth.. she told the doctor “mera vrat hai uske baad admit kar lena”. I asked her why do want to do that since you are so unwell, she said marte dam tak rakhungi this is to show off only to me because I advocate that jisko pyar se rakhna hai rakho rakha jaye jab tak rakho.

Btw all women dont need to take leave from office always, i ahve done wfh on these days, although i take water and tea in karwachauth.... but some women want to visit office this day, as they are differently dressed up, and want to show off, and i dont think anything is bad in that. ( it is not about showing off to men, but mostly about to women colleagues or it is generic)...and mostly u get to go home early too. But some women wud defnitely need to take an off... every woman is different , her body is different, her immune system is different

Even sometimes our kids shout at us or misbehave. If you face a similar situation with your adopted kid, won't this thought come to your mind - I shouldn't have adopted him/her in the first place? If you can bear this situation without this thought coming to your mind then only you should go for adoption.

My mil didn't allow me to take karwachauth fast for my husband & with rest of the fast she is okay. Karwachauth pr hi koi door k rishtedaar ki maut ho jati h isliye tumhe nhi rkhna but hum log rkhenge qki hum krte aa rhe hain , i got married last year in feb tb bhi yhi tha abhi bhi same.
