Disagree with this advice slightly. I think having them both on the same day can be extended past meet prep as long as you pull sumo. It helps quad development and consistency by doing it on the same day, as you have to really focus on good technique instead of getting away with worse form while fresh. If you pull conventional, then this advice is definitely accurate!

@@kibskibs498 I mean if you’re trying to build quads there are a lot of other exercises that focus on the quads a lot more than the deadlift. Although it does depend on the load and amount of reps and sets but if you seeing the light for squats and deadlifts you’re gonna be knocked out.

What do you think of having heavy squat and deadlift days, and then lighter "volume work" for the deadlift in the squat day and the same for squats on a deadlift day? Wouldn't that result in both frequency AND being fresh for each respective lift?

Several things, but mostly two. First it helps you "brace" against it when you inhale, which creates a much stronger core (foundation) for your lift and you are much more stable, which directly translates to strenght. Secondly, it helps to protect your lower back from bending as much and keepts it in a straight state, just like a casket would to a broken bone, which helps keep you safer.

Bit of a limited answer you gave here. Your answer assumes that people want to perform the squat and deadlift at the same intensity, volume, and variations that they would want to do on individual days. There are very popular combinations that allow for lifters to do both on the same day without aiming to induce the same kind of training stimulus that they would if they split it up: back squat + romanian dls, dl + front squat, etc. Should you refrain from doing leg press on "deadlift" days? Should you not do good mornings on "squat" days? This whole splitting up idea is actually most applicable to competing powerlifters and not the casual lifter or general lifting enthusiast. If you're worried about your squats fatiguing your deadlifts (i.e. "I can't hit the same % for the same reps after doing squats!"), you're probably competing.
@jcm52253 жыл бұрын
That's why he specifies his opinion as a competitive powerlifter, and then clarifies that Squat/DL can be performed on the same day depending on goals. The video is 1 minute long.
@josephkim8703 жыл бұрын
@@jcm5225 I was being nice when I said "limited". What I meant to say is that he's actually got it backwards. Only competing powerlifters need to care about whether fatigue from one lift affects the other relative to intensity. The other concern might be injury prevention due to form breakdown, but that's just another version of concern over fatigue, which can be regulated with intensity. Proper programming can solve that with ease.
