Maybe this will help someone. I have had both experiences with coconut oil. Both negative and positive. If I put it on my scalp, it gets very itchy! But if I avoid my scalp entirely, it's such an amazing prepoo for my hair strands. It used to feel dry and brittle to my strands if I use it on its own, but then I combine it with water mist and it does the exact opposite, makes my hair super soft. Last thing, I put it on my hair and give it a little time. This is so helpful because sometimes it just needs a little time to penetrate.

Coconut oil as a pre-poo treatment will make your hair “feel” soft after shampooing. It will also make it easier to detangle before shampooing. But, that’s a short-term benefit from drenching your hair with an excessive amount of oil. This short-term benefit will come with long-term problems. The purpose of shampooing your hair is to get rid of oily/waxy buildup. These “gentle” shampoos are already not strong enough especially if we’re drenching our hair with oil before using them. If you feel like pre-pooing is working for you, great. But, there are other ways to dangle your hair. Your hair drying out so fast is due to PRODUCT/OIL BUILDUP. It’s very important to wash out at least most of the product on your hair and scalp on a consistent basis

Can you please do a video on coconut oil vs fractionated coconut oil? 🥥 I've read that fractionated coconut oil is stripped of lauric acid, the acid that protects the hair from protein loss. If that is true, fractionated coconut oil would be a great alternative for low porosity hair (as we are prone to protein overload). I'm currently avoiding regular coconut oil for this reason but I would consider it in fractionated form. Thank you! 🙏

I'm back to hair grease and clarifying shampoo I also wash my hair in four twist, after a failed hair regimen at bra strap and loosing clumps...the routine I'm doing now gets my hair washed completely in 15 minutes and moisturized in 15 minutes. I've cut down my time by over 50 percent, less tangles, way less breakage and I don't mind doing it every five days. It use to take an hour just to wash and detangle...not anymore. It'll take three years to get my hair thicker but I got nothing but time.

My high porosity hair can't go without it. I use it weekly as a prepoo, coupled with olive oil. I actually use grease as a sealant. It's almost as if the prepoo breaks up my sealant because if I skip prepoo, I notice a difference in washdays. The prepoo causes my hair to literally feel like butter during washday. Which makes it easier to detangle and even my deep conditioner penetrates better. It's amazing. I also started adding it to my daily oil mix. I did notice when I tried to use it by itself in my LCO step, it made my hair feel weird. I concluded maybe it just hardened on my hair and figured I should add it to my castor/olive mix to keep it liquified. And it worked! Adding it to my daily oil mix causes a conditioning effect on my hair.

Your video is very timely for me. I was hoping your content on coconut oil would be supportive of my conclusion regarding its use in my hair. I learned, after a year of using products containing coconut oil, that it hates my hair and my hair hates it! So, for the past six or so years, I have avoided any products containing coconut oil. But, about three months ago, I allowed myself to be talked into purchasing the full Blue Tansy line, which I loved the first time I used it. I only used it two additional times, about a month apart for each usage. Both times I noticed, rather than the usual brittle and hard hair result, my hair shed in long strands excessively. I am mortified that I have experienced another setback, due to using coconut oil! So, I have come to the conclusion that, although coconut oil may be formulated differently in these newer products, it can still be quite damaging for those of us, whose hair is allergic to it! 😒

That is so interesting about the coconut oil. It seems to make the end result of my shampoos better but I don't really use it as a detangler. I detangle my hair before putting on the pre-poo so maybe I should shorten my steps and try using the pre poo as a detangler. I hope I'm not getting a buildup but I like how much more moisturized it is after the shampoo when I pre poo.

I have 4 A-Z hair and damn near Asian low porosity., and my hair loves coconut oil. It makes it shiny and helps my hair growth. It also keeps my hair soft and conditioned. HOWEVER…my hair gets filthy very easily even though it is being absorbed it isn’t absorbed immediately. So I do have to wash my hair more often. For context my hair has been locked 6 years 11 months and I started using coconut oil when my hair was loose. The hair getting dirty thing really only started with my locs I’m guessing because I can’t brush and comb out dirt like with loose hair.

In my natural hair experience, coconut oil is completely antagonistic to my hair. I found out when I bought some and tried it, and a couple days later I was just rubbing my fingers along the length of my hair and I literally heard an offkey violin sound that's NEVER happened before. I realised it was the problem as opposed to my castor oil I regularly used. I still use it on my skin, but my scalp? Never again. I stick to my beloved castor oil. She has an older vid on the water only method, just search green beauty water only. Is that what you’re referring to?

Low porosity hair checking in and correct, my hair does not benefit from coconut oil. Also, unfortunately I am allergic to it and shea butter (adult onset) so natural products can be a challenge. Old school jheri curl moisturizers to the rescue during winter dryness for me.

Can you make a video about how to find products suitable for porosity, density & thickness? Like if your this porosity find products with this ph, idk if im making sense but as im watching your videos i notice you say hair should stay within a certain ph but that also more detailed when it come to porosity. You also use natural products, how do we test natural products for these things?

My hair and sclap (skin as well) hates coconut oil. Not sure if I am allergic to it, but I start itching like crazy.

I am 4C and I will NEVER use Coconut on ANYTHING besides my FOOD!! It destroyed my curl pattern and I had to let it grow out. I prefer almond oil, jojoba oil. Aloe Vera is really good for me as well. Hopes this helps someone out there.

For clarity, are you saying that one should add coconut oil to damp hair and then remist?

I was wondering the same thing. The demonstration word was damp hair, but was wondering if coconut oil goes on first than mist it. I am confused.

I use either the milk or the pre poo. I have no trouble using it if I wash it out when I use it as a pre poo. Do what works for you right? Well. I'm going to be putting it on my ends cause I'm low porosity. Thanks for the tip.

Maybe the type of coconut oil you use play a role. To be sure use the organic unrefined oil. I used coconut oil today self on my hair as a pre-poo after I saw your video. I will see what effect it have I never really have a problem with it.

Thanks for this video and helpful information (as always). My question had always been: what type of coconut oil works best for natural hair? Just plain coconut oil, virgin coconut oil or extra virgin coconut oil---OR---does it matter? 🤔

💫✨ Have you ever tried organic cold pressed coconut oil? It’s very economical and my hair loves 💕 it as a pre-poo. Also, a little bit goes a long way! 🤗 Depending on the size of my individual twists, I use a dime size or a nickel size, rub it in my hands to get maximum efficacy, and I work it in my hair from tip to root. I put a silk/satin bonnet/scarf on until time to wash… if I let the CO stay in an extra day or two before I shampoo, by the time I remove my bonnet my twists are so soft & supple; very bouncy and well-conditioned. I’m not a professional by any stretch of the imagination, but I hope something I said here about my experience with ORGANIC COLD PRESSED CO will help you in your search. 😄 I believe the brand I’m using is Spectrum. Best wishes! 💫✨
