We strung up one of our Fender Acoustasonic Telecasters with Elixir electric strings to see just how different the sound and feel is compared to the stock acoustic strings! Check out the side by side comparison. Leave a comment below on what one you think sounded the best!

I think the "acoustic" sound works much better with acoustic strings, but the "electric" tele lead style with the pickup works better with electric strings. I'd be tempted to use some electric strings on the top 4 strings and acoustic strings for the low E and A strings.

Great comparison and Thank you! I have one of these and am sort of working it into my live sound taking the place of my trusty Breedlove when an acoustic is called for. While I know it'll never take the place of my Teles, Strates or Les Paul, honestly, having a little more breadth - for live - is just key. That, and a Fishman alongside my Supro.

Thanks for your advice. I played my first gig with the acoustasonic Jazzmaster yesterday. I play both acoustic strumming and lead solos. I had to work hard with the G (factory) string and my skin almost came off, but the guitar sounds fat and stays perfectly in tune. So I have to practice and build strength in the fingers. Greetings from Hans from Holland.

Very good demo 👍....We perform as an acoustic duo , we cover everything from the Beatles , Paul McCartney ( Amazed) , Tom Petty , Cheap Trick , America , CSN&Y etc..to the Everly Brothers ...so that demands ton of lead work with some of these tunes , and my normal acoustic guitar's were KILLING my fingers ....so the Acoustasonic Tele is the perfect fit for me ....thx for the fantastic video 👍

Thanks for the comparison it was very well done. The two amp set up is the ultimate as you say. I have kept Elixir acoustics on mine since I bought and they have served me extremely well. I'm not doing electric leads on it so for me it doesn't make sense to go electric strings. This is an amazing instrument that has brought me a lot of joy as a typically electric player. Im more of an electric player but love the idea of this GTR ..so bought one! . Top E is catching on first fret so im sending to my guru Mark Wilmott to set up once I've sorted strings... a tad annoying for a new GTR but will come back as a much better instrument than when it left Fender. Strings... Came with 11 --52 Great tone and probably correct for getting the best sounds. Bending a "G" or "D"..hard work, so tried .. Elixir Nanoweb 10 - 47 Really expensive and honestly sound terrible. There is no bass end and the wound "G" .023 " was not happening for me. Plus they sound terrible on recordings .!!EUGGH!!! (£20 down the drain!!) Ernie Ball.... Earthwound Extra Light 10 - 50 AWWLLRIGHT!!! Suddenly this is a great guitar ( still needs a set up) Yes, Its a compromise soundwise , but with this string gauge you still get the bottom end and playability. Acoustic guys, stick to the original 11's. If you wanna party, .... check out the Extra Lights!!!!!

I know this video is old so Noone will see this but I have to say that Baxter is a beast. He plays soo well. I played for about 5 years as a teenager all self taught with metal like Slayer, Megadeth, Metallica, etc. I'm 45 years old now and bought a player series telecaster last year to start actually learning to play and it depresses me that I quit back in the day. Now I practice for at least 8 hours a week but progress is slow. Wish I could make up for lost time. If I could give advice to beginners I would say please, for the love of God, learn to play. I don't mean sit down and learn songs from tab and copy them directly, I mean really learn to play. Don't get me wrong, it's fun when you're new to learn those awesome songs that you love but it's way more fun to be able to improvise over it. Sorry for leaving a short novel in the comments.

I hear you. Im almost 40, and I just started playing again this year. I played in high school, too, but never practiced much and really just learned the songs. I wish I'd practiced then and at least played some over the years to keep it up. I got a great instructor now, practice an hour or more per day, and I'd say im probably better now than I was back then. I was in hospital for 7 months last year for surgery, and all i did was watch guitar videos on youtube. The first thing I did when I was able to drive was go and buy a new guitar. I quickly realized I'd be starting over again, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Keep it up!

Just a Fantastic demo and review! (And Perfect tunes to demo with) I have the Acoustasonic Jazzmaster and I find the lighter acoustic strings (I use D'Addario Purple - EJ26 (.011-.052) and do quite a bit of bending and leads with excellent tone and playability. I tried some Ernie Ball Super Slinkys as that's what I like on my electric guitars and agree it's a bit high endy-on the treble side, with max playability for ripping some quick leads. Tone of the Acoustic Strings really makes the guitar sing. Overall REALLY excellent demo and reviews. Thanks so much for the side by side comparison with a Killer 2 amp set up. PERFECT!!! Love you guys! Can you explain why the Acoustasonics get no love? I’m a long time bass/electric player and just recently became aware of how versatile these guitars are. I checked the used market and it seems to be trending downward from the launch. It also seems like retailers are not turning new inventory over as quickly as other segments, based on some of the discounts I see. I’m a massive Fender fanboy and I think I need an Acoustasonic. Why doesn’t everyone else feel this way?

I think it's one of those instruments that you really do have to play to appreciate. A lot of people hate on it for being gimmicky or too expensive. DR Strings used to make "Zebra" strings, which gave both a great acoustic and electric sounds by using alternating windings of phosphor-bronze and steel, so there wasn't this nasty tradeoff when using purely one type or another. Zebra strings had a wonderful balance between the two. Unfortunately (and strangely now that the Acoustasonic is here), DR recently discontinued that string, which I had used for years. Can anyone recommend a comparable string that is explicitly made to work on hybrid guitars like the Acoustasonic (or in my case, the Kiesel AE-185)? THANKS!

@DaveZiffer
@DaveZiffer 2 жыл бұрын
After scouring the planet for any remaining Zebra strings, I have found only one other set that suggests that it would work well with a hybrid guitar - the GHS "White Bronze" string, which in its list of attributes says, "Utilizes an Alloy 52 cover wrap, ideal for acoustic/electric guitars", by which I presume they mean hybrid guitars and not merely acoustic guitars having a piezo. Note that Alloy 52 is a 50/50 mix of nickel and steel. I've ordered some of these but haven't tried them yet and so cannot vouch for them. It seems very odd to me that among all the people I've seen involved with hybrid guitars - both customers and guitar makers - nobody seems to be aware of either the Zebra strings or the "White Bronze" strings, and instead they spend their time "fretting" over whether to use acoustic vs. electric strings. Stranger still is the fact that hybrid guitar makers don't equip their guitars with OEM strings that would most likely dramatically improve their sales of hybrid guitars.

I preferred the electric strings, although I see most people here seems to like the acoustic strings better. Just as Baxter said, I could perceive the "dullness" of the lower acoustic strings. I also admit I never quite "got" the Acoustasonic. Perhaps I don't appreciate the nuances as an everyday gigging guitarist might, but I just don't see the role for it.

Bigger electric strings will solve that thin tone issue. The plain G will always sound thinner than a wound, but small Electric strings will sound thin. Put bigger electric strings, OR use a hybrid of three wound acoustic strings, and three plain electric strings with a large plain g (like a .020) and tune a step low if needed to get the tension manageable. Even a set of 13 electric string with a plain 20 for a G tuned low will be a perfect balance.
