Coral Island Is A Brand New Farming Simulator That Was Just Released In Early Access, But is Coral Island Worth any of our time in its early access state? People who are complaining about how similar Coral Island is to Stardew valley are gonna be shocked when they learn how similar Stardew valley is to Harvest Moon. Games are always gonna influence other games. And even if games end up similar most of the times people who enjoy one game will play the other.

I don't think this is a good comparison. Stardew Valley is so much more advanced it basically revived the genre. It didn't just copy 75% of Harvest Moon's features and call it a day. Does this game have any improvements when you compare it to STV that I missed? It'd be more fair to compare this game to playstations All-Stars Battle Royale which was a blatant Smash Bros ripoff.

So in conclusion they took everything good from other games and implement it in their own game, and look how diverse and gorgeous those characters are and the island is beatiful! Definitely in my wishlist.

I think this game combines a lot of different features from different farm games not just Stardew. I see some features from animal crossing (museum bug and fish donations) and rune factory (seed quality). The creator of Stardew doesn’t mind people using his game as influence. The character are also super diverse. I’m intrigued to see how that mechanic will work too.

The Community Center in Coral Island is Sesajen. Sesajen is something offered in a religious ceremony that is done symbolically with the aim of communicating with supernatural powers. Its is From Javanese (Indonesia) Culture.

as someone who has sunk in 625hrs in animal crossing and 250hrs in stardew valley, I've been so excited to have my grubby little hands on this perfect mash-up. sure, it's in early access which personally is more good than bad for me. knowing that progression may be lost every update keeps me from getting too emotionally attached to anything which in turn allows me to go into the game knowing fully well i'm in a "practice run" so I can make mistakes and explore as much as I want and look forward to the things to come. I imagine every update for me will be a little extra hit of dopamine. there's no pressure to have a perfect run bc its impossible to have one right now.

I think that everyone who's saying this is a direct copy of Stardew Valley needs to think about a lot of things. 1, it's early access - do you honestly think that the game is just going to be these base mechanics and thats it? There's so much more to be added that isn't featured here, in the 8 minute video from a strongly Stardew based content creator. 2, so much for the diving, cultural events that actually tie into a real culture, environmental messages that go much further beyond Stardew's "big corporation bad" style, bug catching, and customization that wasn't able to be put into SDV (and don't tell me all about how it could be modded in - this is base game we're talking about here). And 3, it's so obvious they've not talked to these characters or interacted with the world of Coral Island. The dialogue is so much more real. The characters are much more well adjusted and realistic, even as early as this. Give it a chance. Nobody's forcing you to buy it, folks, but this type of negativity about a brand new game that's still working out the bugs is the type of thing that shuts down incredibly beautiful and diverse projects before they come to fruition.

@MGame Plays I agree with a lot of the naysayers, tbh! But the thing is, I don't really feel EA is the time to make or break the game. I'm not trying to guilt people for not buying it - that's absolutely their choice. I'm just saying that complaining about how similar a game that was partly inspired by Stardew Valley is to... the game that inspired it... when it's been in EA for about 10 days... That's kinda ridiculous. Especially when some of the complaints I've heard were things that people in the Coral Discord Server are asking for MORE of. If people don't want it to be like Stardew, then they really need to stop comparing every single aspect of it to Stardew. I like the game. I'm down if others don't like it. But I do think folks need to give it more than 2 weeks of time to work out the bugs (literally) and differentiate itself before backlash on every little detail. Hell, I've heard complaints about the Easter Egg Hat Monkey, which is LITERALLY meant to be there as homage to ConcernedApe. My concern here is that a small Indonesian indie group who is fighting for diversity is getting the kind of backlash I've seen from MAJOR HUGE projects... How much of the backlash is deserved?

To be fair though, I don't think it really works to say "well it's in easy access" as a reason to why it's so similar to SDV. If your game is receiving criticism this early on for being so similar to another, down to really ridiculous little details like min access, number of floors, how you get to the next floor, visuals when you pet animals etc, then maybe the game wasn't ready for EA? EA is meant to create hype around a game, and this is just another one in the long list of games that wanted to cash in on the supposed hype for farming sims (which was really more a hype for a very specific vibe and aesthetic than everyone just loving farming sims all of a sudden, but that's a whole other can of worms) and now has to face that maybe they took it a little too far.

@@alice45-fgd-456drt Or, you know, they could use the user feedback (which is what stage the game is at at the moment) to create a better play experience without sacrificing the mechanics that people enjoy from other similar farming sims? The mines open at the time that they do because it's mechanically the best time in the game to receive access to them. The 160 floors coming for the mines are a good set up. Not really even sure how you could do a different way of going down a floor - what, did you want staircases? Wait, those are in stardew too. What about ladders? Wait, no, Stardew again. The similarities are going to be there regardless - and for a game that directly cites CA as an inspiration, I think it's disingenuous of people to simultaneously be asking for more Stardew features while complaining about how many similar features are there.

I love stardew so naturally I gave this a shot, personally I wasn't as invested in Coral Island, It just wasn't something I fell in-love with, I will stick to Stardew for now❤ Definitely give coral Island a try if you enjoy farming sims though, it might just tick your boxes!

@@keisen5876 honestly I feel the opposite. Once I got a hold on the fishing mechanic it was the easiest skill for me to raise in a quick amount of time and I struggled to get enough trash for Linus’s tasks. I mainly got a lot of trash at the farm (ofc) or the forest pond. But before the first season was over I could catch iridium level fish. I think my main struggle with fishing was getting the same thing over and over when I needed another fish for the community center.

@@sleepytoons2155 Okay, I respect and am happy that you can fish, but I can never get the minigame right, maybe it's just me and my bad hand eye coordination skills lol, but as of right now I'm playing multiplayer so I let my other friend fish (he likes fishing), while I forage around and manage the farm. I'm just not good at the minigame, but I'll try harder : ), I get the mechanics but my hands don't seem to cooperate.

Stardew is one of those games where you can rlly do whatever makes u happy or what u feel comfy with it (unless ofc ur trying to do like 100% perfection or something lol I’m current attempting that rn and it’s not easy for sure😭)

I haven't watched this yet and I haven't seen your other videos on this so I don't know if you've mentioned it but I know you love the harvest with a scythe mod for Stardew. You can harvest all crops with the scythe in Coral Island. I randomly discovered that and thought of you ❤️

This game sounds so fun! As someone who loves Stardew Valley, i don't really understand people saying Coral Island is too similar. Wouldn't that be a good thing? Plus, its not like its a direct copy of Stardew. There's a lot of different mechanics unique to this game. I'll have to buy it when i have money...which is never. Anyway, great video as always!

I'll never understand people who get upset that another game is similar to Stardew Valley. Apparently those folks fail to realize that Stardew Valley is just Harvest Moon on PC. I love Stardew Valley and have well over 1000 hours into it, but it really isn't any different than the old HM games. You can romance certain characters. There are various seasonal crops. You can earn a greenhouse. You get a pet. You're taking over your Grandpa's old abandoned farm. You upgrade your house. All things in every HM game I have ever played.

@@mewmew34 I don't know about everyone else but I never played Harvest Moon and it wasn't really popular anymore by the time SDV came out, so SDV made its own fanbase on the basis of a game that used to be popular in the past. That's vastly different from making a blatant copy of a game that is currently popular, without bringing much new to the table. In order to play Harvest Moon I would have to get my hands on a vintage gaming system and a vintage SNES cassette, both of which would be a hassle and probably costly as well, meaning someone making a PC version of it makes it super easy for me. Compare that to the 200 SDV copies for exactly the same platform as the original SDV, and you'll see the difference. Personally I don't have much of an opinion on the games being made unless they steal the art straight off of SDV, but I have absolutely no interest in playing a game that just has exactly the same mechanics as a game I already love, but costs twice as much. xD

@@alice45-fgd-456drt Except that the Harvest Moon series has never really lost popularity, it's just that the good ones now go by the name Story of Seasons. It was still a popular series when Stardew came out, with games being released for every platform Nintendo has offered. They now also offer PC versions of some of the newer games. The only reason Stardew Valley took pff the way it did was nevause at the time of its release it was anout the only game of its kind on PC. Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons had no games on PC then. When the two franchises (HM and SoS are now two separate game series run by different developers) noticed how popular SV was on PC they started releasing games for the platform rather than sticking to console.

Harvest Moon is actually the original farming simulator game. It all started from there - Stardew Valley creator being inspired from it and now, we have various farming sim games emerging here and there. I love HM ever since I was a kid and nothing can replace it, it's simply the best for me. So if a game is inspired by HM, I automatically assume that it's gonna be a good game 😆

Waiting for console release but if it goes on sale once it hits the full release I might grab it for pc. Hope they flesh out the story and combat more and loving the diversity of townies. I hope they keep same day upgrades though

I prefer simpler/easier fishing (and other minigames). Call me a weirdo or a casual but my stance on difficulty is that games should be just difficult enough to engage a player without being so difficult as to frustrate a player and Stardew's fishing is effectively unplayable for me as someone suffering from sensory integration disorder (for those curious but unaware, I basically have significant lag in my nervous system compared to a normal person). I also like skill trees set up where you can eventually get everything out of them. I listened to this video instead of watching it so I missed if you showed an example of how Coral Island's skill trees are laid out but if you set it up right there can still be unique choices regarding the order you unlock skills that effect your gameplay while your character is still growing but you don't have to miss out entirely on the skills you didn't choose when you've finally maxed out.

That's the thing, fishing in stardew valley is too simple for many people, I personally find the mechanic boring since the only challenge for the high difficult fishs is whether or not you have the luck of fish don't moving foo much, food buffs and the correct equipment, but the mechanic is the same for the first carp. The only added difficulty in the mechanics is when a chest appear and that's all. Fishing should easjer only if it won't be a specialization profession, other wise you will have more fun watering crops. So yeah, fishing in stardew valley is too difficult, but also very basic.

I have it and for me it's not bad, of course no one has to buy it if they don't wanna, I know that the children can grow up to teenagers in that game, and I liked the style of it, and of course there are many things that they could change or has to implented yet.but i know that it's still early access. And who says that is just a copy, SDV was a copy too, Concerned ape took it from the Harvestmoon franchise and from the SOS franchise. So if you want to wait to buy till it's fully released, okay, if you don't wanna buy it, okay too.

If you want to try it for a little less do Game Pass on the Xbox for a month (be sure to turn off recurring billing). There are a lot of Stardew beats (there is literally someone that will sell hats out of an abandoned house to you) and Animal Crossing but once you get over that initial part then at its heart Coral Island is busy trying to set its self apart from its two predecessors.

SV in android isn't incomplete, just outdated. The game was release completed in the 1.0, not as beta

I’m having a similar experience with Potion Permit! I paid $25 for the “deluxe” version but I have hit a big wall for any progression after only a few hours! Nothing is moving forward or feels significant, way too early too pay so much for such an incomplete game! 😢

I do ultimately hope it develops well, but with Stardew Valley, Rune Factory, Story of Seasons, and older Harvest Moon games, there's a lot of competition. For 25 dollars, I get why that's a tough sell for a lot of people for now.

For me personally the main issue with all these "look it's SDV but different" games is that between those games and SDV, I will always choose SDV. None of the games that try to emulate the SDV feeling succeed in bringing anything interesting enough to the table to make me want to play them over SDV.

I feel that Coral Island is Stardew Valley but in 3d. If this is the only good thing about Coral Island, thanks, but no. Some things are so copied/pasted that seems like a copie. For example Diego asking to made a furnace, like Clint (is the same quest and with the same presentation. It's not bad, but seems too similar to SV to be something different. They are ways to made something similar, and not being a copy. Very uninspired) the "NO" comunity Center from Coral Island (but works the same as CC) and Naturalist vs Company. Maybe it's a good game, but, the similarities are too flagrant.

All I want you to know is the game is in early access for you to expect anything more of unfinished version is benign. And just so you know stardew copied harvest moon in a sense as well so I. Already not of fan if your gonna shoot a game before it even releases. I'm not attacking the youtuber either to all her fans I'm just saying the whole comparing to another game that technically copied a game. Is not really a good way to represent a game.

This game looks amazing can't wait to play it but also im a bit confused of why they literally copy and paste so many thing of Stardew valley? Like yes i love how the game is so similar to stardew because stardew is my fave game but also like why did they copy and paste things like opening the mines in the 5th day or the blacksmith giving you the furnace recipe?? Like i dont get why they copy and paste details like that, i would like if someone explained because it kinda looks very sus to me xD

Game is in early access things are set to change none of this is final product. How about before stating it's a copy. Develop games yourself. All games start as a shell than they change gosh I don't like when people like to complain when they have no knowledge on game development. Video games can never make a good fishing mini game can they? Lol. I don’t like Stardew fishing at all. It’s very frustrating for me. I do like the simplicity of ACNH fishing in which you just press the A button once and bam, you got a fish. What’s frustrating is ACNH is the shadow of the fish. Too many common fish when I’m trying to get a rarer fish.

Stardew fishing is frustrating but rewarding I guess but more so frustrating because I hate fishing virtually and irl. I’ve completed at least 4 play throughs of Stardew so I know my way around the game and know how dull fishing can be when there are way better things to be doing in the game.

coral island has a really tough road to match stardew with it's awesome modding community,you can literally play a new modded stardew run every 2years feeling like wow this feels like a totally new quality experience even better than last time I played ! Unless coral island turn up having so much good mods like stardew I can already assure you it will never reach stardew quality

The mod feature will also be released in the full version. And the community will be very big, I really believe in this game. Information on game development until the full version is very complete and can be accessed online. Seeing how beautiful it looks, very suitable for streamers, love to watch it because of the great graphics. Games have a great future

I am uncomfortable about how much is a DIRECT COPY of stardew, not just "inspired by" and yes I know stardew as inspired by harvest moon but I dont recall it being as blatant as this game

You must not have ever played Harvest Moon. Stardew Valley is incredibly similar to my fave HM game, Back to Nature. You take over Grandpa's old farm and have to make friends and fix up the farm. You get judged at the start of Year 3. Many of the same crops, near identical mechanics for several tools, the need to upgrade your home before getting married, etc. I love SV but it really doesn't have anything to it that makes it unique vs Harvest Moon beyond the names of people and places.

@@mewmew34 Yes it’s very similar but I think Stardew adds and changes enough to not be exactly the same, for example combat, mobs, skull caverns, ginger island are entirely original and not in Harvest Moon. But so far this game’s *only* original mechanic is the diving, and everything else is a exact copy from other games. In it’s current state it just doesn’t add many new features compared to the game it’s based off of

Both seem like they could have been modded in Stardew itself. Add a new tool, the bug catching net, and some new bugs as mostly-harmless monsters. Add a new area just off the beach to represent the coral reefs. Stardew already has the barrier turtles.

I guess SV is better at copying Harvest Moon and adding some original ideas to make it its own game that many people would just forgive SV from ripping a lot of mechanics from HM, and apparently forget that HM is the original, while making SV as the god and origin of every farming sims game.

As much as we know Concerned Ape never minded people using his game for inspiration, the mining, farming and farm building is almost exactly like Stardew Valley. The gifts to the goddess are the exact same as the community center. And marriage is the exact same. Married with two children. While I loved the added feature of bugs, the large world and the underwater feature. It just feels like a 3d version of Stardew Valley with not great quality (of course it's early access so this will hopefully improve as the game does). Though it was fun it just wasn't there yet. I hope to come back to it a bit later when it's complete though to see how it takes a turn. But right now there is no denying it has blatant mechanics exactly like Stardew, and some of it even feels like Animal Crossing, but I think it's much less taken from them.

Nothing wrong with taking inspiration but when the graphics and UI are practically the same... I hate it when they brand themselves a "reimagining" when it's nothing new. Just looks like a cheaper mobile game version.

Yeah it looks like a cute game, but it's a pretty obvious rip off of Stardew. It really shows you how ConcernedApe worked hard on a game that took a whole team of devs to make a copy.

been playing this for about 2 days now. and from my 1200 hours on stardew valley, i have to say that this game is a blatant ripoff... i know many are going to go the "stardew valley ripped off harvest moon". but to copy a genre is not the same as copy pasting content.. even the caverns have the same layouts.. now, i enjoy the game, as long as i don't have to pay for it. however all money generated from this should go right into the pocket of ConcernedApe...

just watching the intro, and a bit more, i see this is DEFENITLY a GIANT rip off of stardew valley. i mean, joja co and pufferfish? if you think about it, joja is more thought out, where as pufferfish, is absolutely out of the blue. they could have put SOOO much more work into that name, but they just thought, "pufferfish. that's a good name" I honestly think its in early access because they had put little to none thought and just wanted to make some easy money, by ripping of a famous game.
