I was not going to post this video, but then I got this question AGAIN.
So, here we go.
I'm sure this is not about you... but still. Keep it in mind.
When we speak, I'm open to everything. Just not THIS question.

A story idea is worth pursuing when it haunts you incessantly. If you are losing sleep over it, that's a good sign.

I guess in that case, it's more than 'worth'... It's a must, for your personal wellbeing.

Dialogue is something i struggle with a lot. I mean a LOT. Whats strange though is that when i am talking naturally, i feel like i speak sebtences worthy enough to be a dialogue. I immediately note it down on my phone or notes in case I forget it. But when i sit down to specifically write them, it........just..... .doesn't work!

What's your intent when you speak/what are the intents of your characters when they speak/act? Maybe you could try to roleplay your characters to tap into a natural-feeling way of speaking as them!

The problem is that when you're conscious of your own speech, it is unlikely it will be natural. Here's an idea: record the conversation of people who don't know they're being recorded (I know - you'll have to figure out how to do that legitimately! LOL) and then transcribe it in script format. You will be blown away how that looks VERY different than you'd expect! And please let me know how you went. :) Cheers, Karel

I've been sitting on dozens of ideas and partially written screenplays for years now. I love what I've got and believe they could be great but for some reason I can't bring myself to be disciplined and just write.

Do you feel like you had that kind of discipline when you made the parts you have now? I know the feeling way too well:)

@@atticuskelem347 My relationship with writing has been all or nothing. So as for the material I have now, it was written over the occasional week-long marathon when I would do nothing other than write. In some cases it was a contest deadline, while others it was just something I needed to get out at the time. I realize the answer is probably to establish a more balanced routine, like working for one hour everyday. Something about facing myself and the blank page feels so intimidating but would probably alleviate my anxiety in the end.

It sounds like you need a radical challenge. Here's a thought: set one weekend aside to write out 1 or 2 ideas from that bunch, and tell yourself that if you don't succeed (success could be a 2-page outline of the full story, including the ending), you eradicate every trace of them. They will no longer exist. So it's now or never. Heighten the stakes for yourself! What do you think? Cheers, Karel

@@TheStoryDepartment Raising the stakes for myself... I might just give it a try. Thank you for the idea 🙂
