The unforgettable life and music of legendary rock pioneer Chuck Berry are celebrated in this landmark feature film, capturing a once-in-a-lifetime gathering of rock 'n' roll’s finest! In 1986, Keith Richards invited a roster of brilliant musicians to honor Chuck Berry for an evening of music to commemorate Berry's 60th birthday, including performances by Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, Linda Ronstadt, Etta James, and Julian Lennon, along with archival footage of an unforgettable duet by Chuck and John Lennon! This dynamite crowd pleaser from director Taylor Hackford (Ray, Against All Odds) "is one of the saltiest, most stirring rock documents ever: a terrific show and a real labor of love" (Los Angeles Times)!

Keith wasted out of his mind while smoking a cig and a bottle of Jack in the sink. PURE ROCK N ROLL.

This was filmed immediately after the extremely long live filming backstage at the Fox Theater. He is more exhausted than anything. If you watch the entire Hail Hail Rock n Roll...you can better visualize what is going on. The prep and the shooting of this film was extremely difficult for those involved.... because Chuck Berry did not make it easy at all.

And it was a tribute to Chuck for his 60th birthday. Talented man indeed but what an arsehole. @@eg4449

Had a ticket for Chuck Berry in Vancouver 50 years ago. After the opening act was done - Chuck refused to come out on stage and play. People waited and waited, then chairs started flying.

Chuck Berry is on a very, very short list of individuals who, if you took them out of the timeline of rock and roll, nothing, not a single note would be the same. He invented rock and roll guitar. Any guitarist who claims to have not been influenced by Mr Berry is either lying or not worth listening to.

Yep 👍 Totally agree.... Yet critics & so called historians; They say & quote “Before Elvis there was nothing !” Incorrect ! Chuck Berry on queue ..... 🎸 Chuck Berry epitomised the quintessential Rock & Roll sound combining both the notes 🎵 & tones 🎶 of traditional Mississippi Blues 🎹 ! Surely worth listening to ?

Let me just clear that up before all the Elvis fans get way too insecure & butt- hurt following my comments.... I have zero allegiance to Chuck whatsoever, in fact, I’m more of an Elvis fan having grown up listening to his music 🎧 Both launched their careers at a very similar time back in the mid-50’s, Chuck gained more attention & success for his “R & R” infused Blues tone and sound that generated a mass fanzine across America then the U.K. with songs such as “Maribeline” a huge pop song Elvis would later come into his own, superstardom, but not until the late 60’s & 70’s... At this point Elvis was without doubt a major success beyond the horizon definitively labelled the King of R & R & rightly so.... a statement perpetuated by all sectors of the media. A real pierre de resistance, a prominent public figure for society & its domain Elvis could now sing “Falsetto” amongst other various styles & genres of music. Elvis’ live performances once watershed moments after the news at 22.00 now displaying his famous gyrating dance demonstrating sexual significance. He also became a sex symbol. Whilst Chuck whom was previously dubbed the King of “R & R” now content with a fledgling rock n roll alias. It’s only through time that we as a society or the over fraudulent sectors f the media hype these things... Who really is or was the real King of Rock & Roll ? Well, Elvis never wrote his own songs he would later re-interpretate them - do we consider this a reason NOT to be defined ? No absolutely not ! Truth is both artists deserve recognition & fame fortune & success.... right ? Well they both received it, in millions worth of cash but ultimately in & on the minds of every music fan as an individual and then shared..... do you think both parties care much ? Nah Man ! Both earned the rights as major musical figures & influences whom dominated the top echelons of the music industry for decades One unfortunately is dead.....RIP✊ The other the same.... but still has a 🎸 strapped around his shoulders! in his coffin ⚰️ 🎸 🎤 Both gave their life to music ✌️& WE ALL feel it & LOVE you’s both Loads x x x

@@theoutlaw5806 Elvis' popularity and the height of his success was actually reached in the 50's. It was in this time that he was simply referred to as the "King" and would later on be called "King of R & R" due to an increasing number of musicians being named by the public or either self-proclaimed kings in their genre of music. Chuck was never referred to as the king of rock and roll. He had in my opinion, an even greater title, "Father of R & R". Elvis didn't have superstardom in 60's or 70's. He was immensely popular then but still overshadowed by all other artists - in the 60's, his fame and popularity was not what it once was, primarily because he stopped making music and instead made shitty movies and also because of a band known as The Beatles who went on to take the title of best selling artist of all time from him. In the 70's, the beatles were gone and Led Zeppelin took their place. Even though Elvis started touring in the 70's, it was his fame from two decades ago that helped maintain his popularity. He was not overshadowed by just one artist in the 70's, he was overshadowed by several different artists.

I don't agree with that because there's been piles of good players from the old days like BB King for example. Well, whether that's true or not, Chuck Berry seems like as much of an a-hole as Bo Diddley was. I heard Diddley once say 'white man can't play da blues'. What a load of horse shit and any guitarist knows it is. And we also also know that's one hell of a racist thing for him to have said, but he's black so allowed to be racist. We all know how 'THAT' works.
