Episode 18 of SHOW & TELL, is here and all about photographs of blind people, which is a more common practise than you might have imagined. What is it that drives photographers to seek out and photograph the blind? Is it more than just an easy subject who can't see you coming? Whatever the answer, there are so many great photographers who have gone and done it - Diane Arbus, Richard Avendon, Bill Brandt, Walker Evans, Robert Frank, Bruce Gilden, Andre Kertesz, Sergio Larrain, Herbert List, Marketa Luskacova, Mary Ellen Mark, Lissette Model, Paul McDonagh, Joel Meyerowitz, Paul Strand, August Sander, Edith Tudor Hart and Garry Winogrand to name but a few!
Join Stephen as he attempts to answer this question and also uncovers some truly amazing photography projects from over 100 years ago.
Please subscribe to the channel and Stephen will continue doing these films as he seeks to focus on photography content and not just which new or old camera to buy. And remember, there's still a 'No BOKEH TALK' promise. No bokeh talk. Ever.
For more of Stephen's photography please visit his website: www.stephenleslie.co.uk/ or his Instagram: / step_hen_les_lie
Also feel free to contact Stephen if you'd like to buy zines, prints or sign up for his monthly street photography workshops in London.

So very interesting and informative as ever. Thanks for this great series. When your image first appeared on screen I staggered, which isn't easy when sitting. Eventually though I grew to like and covet the shirt.

Another nice one, Stephen. There's a whole chapter dedicated to the theme in Geoff Dyer's book "The Oingong Moment", but you dig even deeper

Hey Gustavo! Sorry for my slow reply, madly busy at the moment. Glad you're enjoying the films. Yes, I know about that chapter, I have a weird problem with Dyer on photography because he's not a photographer. Great writer though. More films to follow in a bit. All the best.

Truly fascinating! (and a great tip for an introvert like me to get started with street photography, since I'm still not invisible, although I do wonder at times.)

Worth noting that vast majority of blind people have some level of sight. Interesting that some of the subjects clarify that in their signs when they are completely sightless.

Thanks for watching the film. I’m sorry that you feel I’m selling blind people short but the film never claims to be about blind artists. I’m well aware that they exist and also that there are many blind photographers. However, this film is about how blind people have been photographed and historically been the subjects and inspiration for sighted photographers. It’s not all encompassing, it’s a 20 minute KZfaq film, that’s all. One day I might indeed do a film about blind photographers but this isn’t that film.
