PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU WATCH THIS FILM!
This is not a new episode of Show & Tell. Not yet, I have been stupidly busy and the Summer holidays have been very distracting to say the least BUT here is the very first ever short film I made, way way back in the mid 1990's. It is called I WAS CATHERINE THE GREAT'S STABLE BOY and yes, it's about the (in)famous, probably apocryphal romantic liaison between the Empress of Russia and a male horse but told from the point of view of the poor stable boy charged with setting the whole affair up. It's not even 5 minutes long and it was shot on 35mm film! Amazingly, the voiceover of the Stable Boy was done by none other than Logan Roy himself, the fantastic Brian Cox!
I'm putting this up on my channel now, a.) because it's a fun little film that I'm still very proud of, I knew absolutely nothing when I made it and it was a great learning experience and b.) because it acts as a good way into the next, proper episode of Show & Tell, which hopefully will be finished in a couple of weeks. Hopefully. I won't say any more and spoil the surprise but if you watch this film now then a great anecdote in the next episode will make more sense. Enjoy.

Fab film Stephen - entertaining and educational. And great to hear Logan Roy’s dulcet Dundonian tones - a good bit of business to sign him up…and no doubt he learned a few tricks about building empires from the Czars too!

Great wee film, thanks Stephen. I'm always amazed when reading the titles just how many people are involved in even a short film. Mid 90s incidentally was also folically my "last stand" in a battle now totally lost.. :(

Yes, it was quite a shock to me back then too. Might even have been the reason all my hair fell out???

Please explain why snow isn't particular about where it lands. Is snow lazy? Does it not care? Also, is there a formula for calculating the breaking strain of a beam? Asking for a friend. Wonderful little film!

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the film. To attempt to answer your friend's questions, in reverse order. The breaking strain of the beam has something to do with physics. I forget the exact equation, this was almost 30 years ago now but - top tip - make sure the beam is strong. The snow wasn't particular about where it landed because it is snow, it is not a sentient being and therefore it will land anywhere the wind takes it, ie on the waiting stable boy. I hope this goes some way to explaining. Good day.
