About me:
I am a wife, mom and CRNA (certified registered nurse anesthetist). I went to nursing school to get my ADN, started working and then went back for my BSN. I was a travel nurse for 2 years before starting CRNA school. I loved travel nursing so much but I also love anesthesia so I went back to school to become a CRNA. Fitness is a huge part of my life. I've competed in powerlifting and Crossfit. Jon and I own a gym together. We are vegan because we are both huge animal lovers. We are also foster parents!

Rhianna Ferial That makes me happy to hear that. I’m so torn between nursing school and medical school. Currently I work in dialysis but have 15 years of health care experience. I know why I want to be an MD but living pay check to pay check gives me feelings of selfishness in regards to my wife and kids. Becoming a Nurse only appealed to me in regards of shorter school time and job security. The job itself doesn’t. That’s probably in part due to my experience in health care and downsides I’ve seen that can come with Nursing. Specifically floor. My family has all agreed to go down the Medical road with me but I feel they shouldn’t continue to not have things they want because of my career path. Kids are still young. By the time I finished my residency the oldest would be 12. I wouldn’t miss to much in those regards. I guess I’m just scared of the journey or making the wrong choice career wise. Do you have any advice?

We are front-loaded. They provide a lot of opportunity to get in plenty of cases prior to graduation. I have a friend that's a CRNA doing 1099 work that said he could get me on with him when I graduate and that he would look out for me until I got comfortable. I would suggest looking at getting supplemental liability insurance anyway. Because if something goes wrong, you would get direct representation in the proceedings. With having your hospitals coverage only, they can negotiate a settlement without a jury trial and you could be on the hook for damages that you never got a say in.
@markh3684

This is advice for anyone reading the comment above, not just the OP. Bottom line, do not ever believe your employer has your best interests in mind.

You will need a Doctorates starting in 2025, and usually 1-2 years of acute care. So in total you are looking at around 3-4 years of schooling plus those other years in the ER etc.

I work as nurse anesthesia in Indonesia. I just got an average of 450/months. maximum 700 after add more 100 hours oncall because the hospital don't have more nurse anesthesia but the patients are overloaded. very challenging job with low payments here, lol

have you considered a health share rather than a full health insurance plan? it's a lot less expensive

Yes but I had a cardiac ablation in 2015 and it disqualifies me from most non-marketplace plans 😭 "prior heart surgery" and I have mild mitral regurgitation. I called around a lot and everyone said no even though I'm asymptomatic and take no meds for it!

why don't you get your medical, dental and eye insurance through the hospital where you work? it would save you a lot of money since it's a group rate.
